EZDok - simply the greatest add-on!

There do seem to be a lot of people flying smaller craft using EZDOK, but I've been using it with airliners for the most part, and here's an interesting observation I got from doing that:I was flying an Air Hauler flight from North West France Down to Portugal, which is not a great distance, so I did it in my fleet's SkySim DC-9 and only cruised down there at 10,000 feet. As always, I used updating real world weather downloads for this flight. The trip took me over the Bay of Biscay, which is fairly notorious for bad weather, but I was mostly looking at 5/8 Cumulous cloud topping out just below my height, with some evidence of light rain. Nevertheless, EZDOK had me bouncing around in quite noticeable turbulence, which would not normally be the case when just above the height where the clouds were topping out. Cumulous up to that height is slightly out of the ordinary, but not desperately strange, so I was thinking, is EZDOK going over the top with its turbulence effect?Later, as I started getting vectors for my destination, the weather updated, and it was much the same story, but as I came down to 3400 feet to intercept the localiser, I spotted some lightning flashes. Now it all made sense, what EZDOK had been doing with that turbulence above the cloud layer, was showing me the rising air for building CB activity that would later start to form. Needless to say I was impressed by that. In the real world I would have sussed out that this is what was happening in such a situation, but I've never had effects in FSX that allowed me to do that until I got that EZDOK thingy. That's pretty cool.Al

Al, you have RND Ground turned on and RND Air turned off? Using DHM for the real world turbulence effects? Or are you using RND all on and DHM on?I found that for heavies if you get a good takeoff and landing roll effect with RND Ground turned on and RND Air turned off, then DHM on, you will get a more realistic effect from the air turbulence since RND Air wont be messing with it.

can the default settings for the a2a cub be improved? if so, can someone share their file?

I have to add that EZDok and TrackIR 4 work seamlessly for me!!Set up several cameras for the PMDG J41 - namely zoomed in PFD and engine display cameras (always found these difficult to read from VC without resetting the TrackIR cam).Takeoff using TrackIR - I can still get the turbulence/shaking effects etc by setting up a cam for takeoff and using the hatswitch for panning around and switch to TrackIR as required. If I then pause (with middlemouse button) the TrackIR EZDok then takes over and switches to the zoomed in PFD display. I have 2 keys on the keyboard set to these two cameras. I can switch seamlessly between these 2 zoomed displays to read the info etc that I require. All I then do is hit the middlemouse button again and the view automatically reverts back to the TrackIR. The middlemouse button does 2 things at once - pauses TrackIR and reverts back to whichever view I last used in EZDok. Excellent! Quick press of the middlemouse button and I am again at my zoomed in PFD display. I don't know about anyone elses experience with these two but for me they definately work just as I would want them to. I don't get the movement effects whilst using TrackIR but I get the flexibility of moving my head around coupled with preset cameras that give me the info in a clearer and easier way and can use a cam for takeoff/landing to get the movement effects.Without a doubt the best non-aircraft/graphical addon ever for FS! (with the exception of Mr D's FSUIPC!)

i just had a look a the config settings. oh my god, that looks like the most user unfriendly interface i've ever seen. i couldn't figure out anything! i wish it was more user friendly. i just gave up. i guess i need to read the entire manual (boring).

Hi Suggest you keep trying as EZDOK is amazing beyond belief - it has made default aircraft so much more interesting to fly and realistic. Fantastic also for payware A2A Cub etc. No need to read the entire manual, just thos parts you'll use most (at this time). EXDOK isn't too tuff to learn for the basic stuff at least. If you want to get into desiging new cameras from scratch and movements using their interface, then yes that looks difficult at this time. But remember, you can xport cameras from exisiting planes which have cameras already set up by EZDOK, then import those cameras to any other plane you want and easily modify them. I haven't even opened up the config settings interface. The only one I've used is the "studio" one for setting up cameras. That part issn't difficult. What I did was to look through their tech forum and read the postings which sounded helpful and I got lots of ideas and answers to questions.Hope this helps. Howard

thanks howard.i'll take a look at it sometime. i would like to place some cameras inside the cockpit somehow and have the camera float to the positions using keyboard shortcuts.

It's very easy to do that. All you have to do is create a camera, clone it several times, assign each a uniquie shortcut on your keyboard, then press each shortcut one at a time and use the Edit Mode in EZCA to move that camera whereever you like. Voila, now you have several cams inside your cockpit that you can float to with your shortcut keys. Takes about 5 minutes.

I have never loved any add-on as much as this... in my almost 30 years of being a flightsimmmer!! EZDok has almost now killed FS9 from my computer. The Active Camera add-on was the main reason I was still using FS9. That, plus my BBJ by Ariane is the only reason I was still loving FS9...but now....with the sweet EZDok utility, the ground bumps, shaking, turbulence etc etc... and awesome camera abilities i am addicted to FSX again.... it makes flying all the default aircraft a dream as well as the payware ones. I am rapidly building camera sets to share. I am hoping to get them online here at avsim today.. the Level D 767 was a joy to build VC cameras for.... and for the free ORBX biplane you can get, I made a camera on the wing to wing walk on! ha!As I fly jets almost everyday in real life (A Beechjet) I can tell you if you really want to enjoy what real pilots see...the viewpoints are so important as well as that feeling of shaking on the ground (runways are not smooth!!! especially at near VR) so real.... you can't live without this add-on. And, on an i7 950 GTX280M based laptop, there is NO frame rate reduction or stutters whatsover over default flying.
OK maybe I have missed something here but after being an avid active camera user with FS9 I have now discovered that in FSX (and it would seem in FS9) most of the active camera functions I regularly used could be replaced by simply assigning eyepoint viewpoints to joystick buttons plus the hat switch, ie left, right, up, down, forwards, backwards. Thus I can easily move my viewpoint around the VC/ cabin of any aircraft without the need of a third party addon. Apart from external viewpoints what else am I going to get with EZDok that would improve upon what I already have? Furthermore , after a quick read of the EZDok manual , I note it says you have to disable the hat switch and you seem to have to use keyboard shortcuts rather joystick buttons to move the viewpoint left, right, up, down, forwards, backwards - I would find that very inconvenient. Overall yet to sold on this one.BrucebBruceb

You have to disable the joystick only during the install process. Then you enable it again and use the hat switch normally.EZCA offers incredible effects and external views that you can't get assigning eyepoint viewpoints to joystick buttons or keys.Plus much more...IMO, it is indeed the best utility for FSX so far.

Are you 100% sure about re-enabling the HAT switch David? If I do that I get a shed load of 'glitches' when trying to use it.
