May 21, 201016 yr Question to all of you guys:'What' do you think needs 'fixing' in FSX? what 'features' you consider 'missing'? what would you like to see in the upcoming Flight Simulator Live? (it needs to be things that FSX doesn't have or does wrong or poorly)is it cloud shadows? rain drops in the VC? no alpha fading of autogen? there are evidently features that don't require that you even suggest them.. they are DX11, better multi-core support and multi GPU/SLI support, they will be part of the next version of FS. So, try to be also specific, for example, dont say: Better weather, because that feature is already available if using REX or ASE/ASE/AS6. Imagine a bunch of guys from MS is reading this thread now, what would you tell them? what do you want them to consider for the next version?
May 21, 201016 yr -Water need definitely improvement based on latest shader technology: wave appearance relative to wind condition and type of water (open sea, lake, river etc)-Trees and effects like smoke stacks moving from wind -Cloud shadows-buildings need improvement concerning local architecture I will reply again if I think more :)
May 21, 201016 yr i think the next FS should focus more on the pilot and less on the eye candy. This will enable it to run on more mid/low end pc's and provide a realistic expereince. So i would like to see the default ATC improved. May 21, 201016 yr OK, I'll bite.....what I would *really* like to see:-1. Better performance, at least 200% faster on the same hardware. Just rendering a good depiction of the ground, sky and weather shouldn't bring a year old PC to its knees.2. I think proper atmospheric scattering modelling, volumetric lighting, real shadows and true HDR rendering would increase the realism of the FSX world by an order of magnitude.3. High resolution gauges for a all primary flight instruments, higher resolution virtual cockpits also....what would be nice to have:-4. Better default scenery would be great- higher resolution default ground textures, higher resolution default mesh, more hand-placed scenery objects, more accurate roads/lakes/coastlines/landclass. It'd be extra nice if a little more attention was paid to my native europe as well, the default scenery is extremely limited.5. A little more systems depth to the default planes, there are a lot of switches in the VC's that don't do anything.Unfortunately, I'm going to make a bet right now that Flight Sim Live will not follow the same direction as FSX was taking and its going to be heavily dumbed-down, console garbage. More people will play it and enjoy it, MS will make more money, but the old guard will grumble like heck.I'm also going to bet that Aerosoft will not be able to produce something like FSX by 2012. The amount of real-world data needed to properly compete with FSX (mesh, roads, lakes, landclass, scenery objects, navaids, airport layouts, charts etc.) would surely be very expensive indeed to license for a small company like Aerosoft.Forgive me if I sound a little pessimistic :( Kind regardsDave

One of the main problems to fix would be vectoring you too far out...let the STAR be flown with ATC interaction! Don't vector us 30 miles out for an approach! Especially smaller aircraft! Also step climbs, step descents, and speed restrictions should be supported by ATC. I think those are the main issues with the default ATC. And please don't get rid of aircraft carrier ops! In fact make them even more realistic with ATC/LSO support not only in missions but free flight as well. Moving TACAN and Carrier ILS on the ship!Brandon

(it needs to be things that FSX doesn't have or does wrong or poorly)no alpha fading of autogen?Actually, adding Alpha fading of Autogen would make my Top 5 list! Along with selectable larger high LOD area nearthe airplane within the sightlines from the cockpit (without having to load up distant scenery). Bert
May 21, 201016 yr Alpha Fade of Autogen has been top of my wishlist for a VERY long time. Fix that and I can die happy.
May 21, 201016 yr Moderator Even with ASA/ASE there is still a lot I would like to see improved in the weather area that is limited by the FSX engine.Personally I would love to see the weather engine fixed so that we have:1. No more sudden changes is visibility ie. climbing out of IMC then all of the sudden the ground is clear or going from 20 miles visiblity to all of the sudden 1/4 mile visiblity (still happens with ASE)2. Volumetric clouds that we can actually fly through and we cant see ourselves in spot view3. Better rendition of clouds/weather actually forming or dissipating and dropping rain/snow/hailOn the subject of weather related things:1. VC rain drops2. Realistic looking snow that floats to the ground not like the current snow3. Hail possible?4. Cloud shadows5. Lights from the city areas actually light up the sky on overcast nightsPerformance wise:1. Better use of mulit core processors since it will be easier to get more cores than to increase core speedsBetter ATC and AI control - low on the list compared to the other things I have listedFrankly, I am pretty happy with FSX as far as what can be done with ground tiles and/or photo scenery, but the only thing that I really think needs the most improvement, besides performance, is the actual weather/atmosphere related items I listed that can't currently be overcome due to the limitations FSX poses. May 21, 201016 yr We've got most of the eye candy, I say go for more realism. so that would include...Better helicopter dynamics. As they are at present, that's one of the weak points of FS.Better emulation of ground handling, i.e realistic surface friction, undulating runways, effect of wet runways, drag from wet and dry grass strips, brake fade on overheat, tire bursts and brake fires, all these things are poor in FS. The landing roll-out and the take off are the toughest parts of any flight, and they are not given the right consideration in terms of realism and challenge in FS. TSR Autobrake addresses many of them, but it would be better if the sim itself did them.Improved updraughts and downdraughts, thermals and better simulation of the differences in dry/moist adiabatic lapse rate. FSX did a lot on this score, but there is more that could be done, and since all aircraft fly through the medium of the air, making it more realistic would improve the simulation of flight. Realistic airframe icing.Better engine modeling, i.e. bogging throttles when you choke the engine with rapid throttle movements, neg G effects, high temperature thrust fade on jets in warm, thin air, better engine icing, water swamping jet intakes in heavy rain, runway FOD damage, bird strikes, heat shimmer from exhausts. Water contamination of fuel with drain taps on the aircraft tanks. Shock cooling on engines, propeller braking and better modeling of CS props and such. Environmental fuel freezes.Airfame aging would be nice too, with TBOs and stuff like that, since FS does actually already track some of that data. Adding skin rippling/unrippling when the aircraft pressurises and depressurises would be cool too.Dirt and splashes adhering to the aircraft skins would be good, especially if it increased the drag, grass jamming up the spats on light aircraft, possibly effecting the drag and braking too.Better ground effect simulation.Marshalling at airports.Realistic ballooning and lighter than air craft, as well as other less well covered craft, such as powered parachutes, hang gliders, autogiros, rockets etc.Environmental effects, such as leaves blowing off trees and grass rippling from prop/jet blast, dust getting kicked up on taxiways, dust devils etc.Passenger implementation at airports and in aircraft, and crew too, especially a nun with a guitar and a small boy that can visit the cockpit for those 'Airplane' moments LOLAl Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 21, 201016 yr I just want too see the upcoming Flight Simulator Live - that will enough if it will be well written code, like most games go have now Bartłomiej Ender
May 21, 201016 yr The most important thing to do for the next FS:Either FIX the existing engine to work with modern hardware, or start from scratch. However, this does not mean to make it into a "game" instead of a true "simulator".IL2 was a great simulator, but at the same time the engine was being upgraded for Wings of Prey, it was being "dumbed down", PLEASE don't let this happen to FS.And number two most import thing: BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY WITH ADD-ONS!!! Add ability to save screenshot in .jpg format and record movies in mpeg format to be playable outside of FS.Add ability to reset tower location for any airport and to be able to create/save custom views using current view postion for an aircraft without editing the aircraft.cfg
May 21, 201016 yr The 3D instrument panel should be fixed. The panel moves on accelleration/decelleration and on climp/level/descent, i.e. changes of attitude. I prefer the 3D panel as it has a nicer look, but only the 2D panel gives me a static/fixed cockpit.
