"Shade" for FSX

Featured Replies

Great, thanks for the explanation and the effort it took to post this up. I'll give it a try and see what I come up with. No doubt there is a happy medium, and I'm motivated to find it, because after having flown a 10 hour flight and witnessed both a sunset and a sunrise, this add-on is a keeper. I don't think I've hit the screenshot key so many times in one sitting.

I think I will go get it later on today or tomorrow.But.It looks "complicated" to start ? Is it a one-click application like say,ase or rex ? How do you start the thing ? Do you have to load it everytime you launch fsx ? Thx Vic

Could some good soul that owns this Shade post not one screenshot, but two...a simple comparison, same spot, one default fsx, the other using shade. I think this is the kind it will better illustrate. I have seen no comparison in the store screenshots, so thats my advice to Stevethanks

Here are some. http://shadeforfsx.b...bel/Comparision But your request stays valid of course as you may also be interested on how e. g. the cockpit 'darkness' is affected. The comparison is a bit of work since you have to exit the sim to be able to take a shot with/without Shade enabled, but this thread already offers some examples of course.Look here. http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2102364Or here. http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2102520With the settings Jean-Paul used there, you will receive amazing terrain shadows but may, currently, also get some rather dark 'white' clouds and a dark VC. So some sort of tuning to your personal preferences will be necessary I guess. I for one have reduced the shadow darkness a bit and got a nice and somehow realistic looking VC light change and only slightly darkened clouds, while the terrain still looks nice and the light does too. I'm not an ENB mod user though.

Shade is indeed an interesting concept, i will have to test it myself, but i see it does make anbiance and contextual Contrast changes in levels of hiearchy so that you get more depth in the visuals. I have felt that FX even with FEX and GEX is overly flat, so this may indeed help out a lot, but i was not too impressed with some of the high contract pictures, someone posted some mountain pictures that were overly dark. You always have some inherent light in natural lighting, the stormy weather pics are the most successful so far from what I see. thanks to all for sharing the pics and tests. Best way will be to try it out.

Can anyone state if this works OK with shader 3 mod?

Steve, I've used the Shade Set & Forget exe but didn't make any backup.I'd like to revert to the default settings for some tweaks but don't know how. Some help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm getting some oddly-dark clouds towards dusk using REX OD, Mark's final settings and John's ENB (with over saturation off) - but other than that can't complain! shade.jpg Not sure what can be done here as it seems the angle of the light has the clouds behind those facing the sun to go dark. High noon and sunset/sunrise have a more even lighting effect on the clouds as the sun is farther above/below and you don't see this half dark/half light effect during those times of day Edit: following Heiko's suggestion of reducing the ENB DarkeningAmountDay to 1 has helpedFurther edit: changing DarkeningAmountDay to 1 is only effective during sunrise/sunset. During the midday hours having it set to 1 results in the sim being too bright for me. Luckily ENB can be tweaked on the fly so I guess I'll just have it open to adjust as necessary

Using "Just Peach" preset. Taken over Lake Wakitipu NZQN at sunrise. Using Vector Landclass, ASE, and FSWC sun & water mod. FEX also, but no clouds this morning, just a nice crisp frosty morning.I apologise for the screen shots looking weird, don't know why it cut some of it, probably me, need to learn how to take better screenshots.
