April 6, 201214 yr I thought that after the last fiasco that Avsim had learned a lesson. Clearly not but hey - I'll figure a way around it. I'm guessing we all want different things from Avsim and it just so happens that mine don't work easily with the new format. I shall persist but I'm afraid I'm one of the nay sayers.
April 6, 201214 yr All that's really happened on the front page is that the news articles are now in a 'grid' or 'matrix' style of presentation (eg.. like Flightsim.com), rather than a long linear top-to-bottom list as was. I find it easier to read and you can see more of the news and articles, at a glance. Works for me. April 6, 201214 yr Hello Much better than the last attempt, clean and modern but still traditional Avsim in a way. My only reservation is that all the new Freeware releases are buried away out of sight. Overall I like it.
April 6, 201214 yr Hello Much better than the last attempt, clean and modern but still traditional Avsim in a way. My only reservation is that all the new Freeware releases are buried away out of sight. Overall I like it. I think moving the long list of freeware releases from the top of the front page is a major improvement. I actually preferred the previous short-lived revamped look, this is a bit of a compromise, but it's way better than the original.
April 6, 201214 yr Sorry, the new front page is just confusing. gb. YSSY. Win 10, [email protected], Corsair H115i Cooler, RTX 4070Ti, 32GB G.Skill Trident Z F4-3200, Samsung 960 EVO M.2 256GB, ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger, Corsair HX850i 850W, Thermaltake Core X31 Case, Samsung 4K 65" TV.
April 6, 201214 yr Yeah, the library files did take up a lot of space. Now you can read, rate, and comment on news articles which is a lot more interactive than before. April 6, 201214 yr Is this becoming a trend of somesort, confusing unlogical layouts? :Pig: This really is a case don't fix it, if it aint broken. I prefer the old layout, you can see the daily news in an instant. So i do check this site daily with the old layout but it looks like a maze as of now. This reminds me of a hardware website that changed web layouts and lost an awful lot of vistors, i kid you not. ryan jerry
April 6, 201214 yr I've had Avsim.com as my home page for years and now it comes up to the Forum. What happened? Can't even get to the front page using "Home". I'm not a fan of this new style. Steve Lewis
April 6, 201214 yr Yes indeed, the new layout is extremely confusing, everything everywhere all over the place... Cannot figure where to go, what to look... The old layout was clear, simple, easy to use, and you were able to get all news in just a quick look. But now... As we are saying in (real life) aeronautics: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!" as well as "KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid!!" I'm sorry but I'm one of the nay sayers as well. Alex
April 6, 201214 yr If it ain't broke don't fix it. The last front page was very easy to read and was a pleasant part of my morning ritual. Now it is all over the place needing lots of scrolling and taking up way too much screen space and the latest file releases are buried away and are in a dreadful font. Why not stick with what has worked and worked very well? I thought (hoped) the lesson was learnt last time. Cheers Steve Hall
April 6, 201214 yr Don't like the new page hard to read and navigate back,to the old it was great. Cheers Wayne http://fs2crew.com/banners/Banner_FS2Crew_MJC_Supporter.png Wayne HART
April 7, 201214 yr "looks" was NOT the only reason for the change. We also UPDATED the software and put it into one unified package. Yes, that package comes from the SAME people that publish the forums software. But it also allows our staff easier and better tools to edit, post, make changes. As Tom has said in other threads, we are also looking to do the same with the library and bring it under the same software. This makes it easier to admin the systems as well. And from a purely systems viewpoint, this method and page is WAY EASIER and less taxxing on the servers too! As for readability and looks, as I've said in other posts, NO WAY we can please 100% of this community 100% of the time. We had WAY MORE complaints about the old style being, well, OLD. April 7, 201214 yr No go from here as well, kind of like someone scrambled the eggs you know what I mean?
April 7, 201214 yr One thought (since I am not happy either): I quite understand the need of change. However we should remember that people are rather slow in losing old habits and learning new things. If you change something too often (and AVSIM has been undergoing constant changes lately), that makes it hard to like and accept. I think it would be better to prepare a final version and then just put it on-line. All those experiments accompanied by different errors do not do good to Avsim. Not that I am complaining. I am aware Tom is the host here, staff are volunteers and being here is neither paid nor obligatory. But as a longtime and passionate AVSIM member I have some worries to share. I am sincerely sorry if my words sound discouraging.
