Are you using DX9 or DX10?

Featured Replies

For the last several months I was using only DX10. Due to some aircraft lighting issues (3d model related) at night, the last couple of weeks I have been using DX9 for night flying. I did have a bloom issue with DX9 but turning it off solved that problem. Overall I do prefer DX10 and am anxiously awaiting the next set of DX10 fixes from Steve. :Drooling:

Dx10 only for the last few years. Performance increase, better looking water and i can't do without cockpit shadows. If a developer chooses not to make their designs work in DX10, then I find an alternative or make my own.

DX-9.  I tried DX 10, but since I use WOAI there were a lot missing textures in the AI planes.

Been using DX10 and well pleased with the switch.

DX10. Late to the party and went with DX10 (with Steve's shader fixes etc.) from the start. I only fire up DX9 when I have an issue that I'm trying to debug and switch back to 10 as quickly as I can.

Dx10 only

Take a look at http://forum.avsim.net/forum/569-dx-10-discussions-hints-and-help/ for tips and tweaks in DX10. I use them both because some of my addon airports gray out in DX10 at night. If the addon is optimized to support DX10 APIs -- many such as FSDTs KLAX v2.0 are -- it works all of the time. It took about an hour or so to install the shaders and test the tweaks but my system is stable under either standard at +/- 30 fps. I think that DX10 better supports 3d objects such as addon airports and 3d photo real scenery such as MegaSceneryEarth's v2.0 and Newport Scenery's Hawaiian Islands. I'd use it all the time if my legacy Hawaiian airports didn't gray out. Take a look at some of my Gallery screen shots as examples. They were taken on a short flight from KDEN to KGUC (Gunnison, CO) using MCE Colorado v2.0 and REX WXPlus. frame rates were steady at 29-30 fps.

Dx9. I keep reading up on 10, but it just sounds more trouble than its worth. Sounds like you are just trading one set of problems for another. The devil you know, as they say.

Always DX9. After much testing. never found any advantage to DX10 preview.

Maybe it's laziness on my part, or the old "ain't broke don't fix it" adage, but I see no reason to convert to DX10.   Not sure what the advantages are of DX10 apart from native bloom and maybe some better performance, but those benefits are outweighed by the possibliity of addon compatibility issues, or small graphical glitches that have not been corrected with the recent mod that is all the rage now.

Part of me feels like I'm missing out, and I thought about at least testing it, but I feel it's going to be a waste of time.   From what I have read, it is a cumbersome process, I'd rather just fly and not mess around with my perfect setup, unless I can be convinced that there are NO compatiblity issues.   I have way too many addons and don't want to miss a thing, no matter how slight the increase in FPS, and there is no guarantee that performance will improve, at least on my system.

DX-9.  I tried DX 10, but since I use WOAI there were a lot missing textures in the AI planes.

That is a MAJOR issue for me, as I am a major AI nut, and I have tons of FS9 AI models/paints.   I fear, even with the new mod, that I will lose those textures with DX10.  Can anyone confirm if this is the case?
