Searching for weather engine

I have AS6.5 for FS9 and use it with FSX without any problems. Could be a solution if you have it? It sets the weather via FSUIPC, and FS9 and FSX weather data are compatible. I find it works very well, and matches real-world weather charts very closely (even mid-Atlantic).

You need to get textures from somewhere else as the textures are for FS9.

Best regards,

Robin.

Seeing your post, Robin, I'd say that old doesn't necessarily mean bad. AS6.5 is a few engines behind the current stuff but it seems like it still provides 'good weather'. I like those news.

But I actually wanted to join in on the approach FSGRW is using. I like it a lot and it finally works out of the box as most options are handled on auto. You just get weather.  B)  Same for the wind smoothing. Later, those extra local effects are the icing on the cake, so to speak.

I also use FSGRW and love it. I have had some wind shifts but not many. I read the devs interview and he asked to turn off the FSUIPC wind limiter however I found that using them both have given me better results. I also use the static weather theme, so it'll download the worlds weather and I'm set. Very simple and very good. I'm very happy with it.

I've had FSGRW for about 5 weeks now, and I just LOVE IT!!!  I've purchased three other weather engines over the years, and I'm not here to bash them.  I'll just say FSGRW is the first weather engine that has exceeded my expectations, and brings new life to FSX.  No more cloud popping, very smooth transitions in wind shifts, great GUI and cross-wind landings that bring a smile to my face .   Their website isn't fancy like some of their competitors, but their product quality sure wins the day.

Would be nice if FSGRW got a seperate forum :-)

I'd like to repeat this. FSGRW requires its own forum please. The official forum leaves much to be desired imo.

Those of you using FSGRW, do you use the static download (like the demo) or the dynamic weather? I've only used the demo so far, so I don't have an option, but I've been really impressed with how realistic the weather is and how it changes as I fly even using the static download mode. For those using dynamic, are there any pauses or sudden weather shifts after a dynamic update?

I download the dynamic weather and you really don't even notice when it updates, looks very nature and no unrealistic winds shifts. Just like flying in the RW, which I occasionally do when time, money and wife allow.....

I'm really loving FSGRW . Just flew Faroe to Iceland to south Greenland. The turbulence is very realistic and by far better than anything I have experienced before. I have all other weather programmes! Every landing is fun now

The low overcast merging into low vis is excellent.

Once my free credits are used I will happily buy it.

Does the turbulence effect in FSGRW get affected if also using Opus for the cameras/bump effects?

I don't remember out of my head if there's an option in Opus to disable the weather engine. If there is it might work but if not I don't think it would work because running two different wx engines simultaneously would most certainly create problems.

No one has mentioned FSrealWXlite. Anyone care to comment on this one compared to payware weather engines?

I run FSPS 3D COCKPIT EFFECTS and the turbulence effect is amazing!

You can disable either. Live Cam or weather in the Config page of Opus.

I run this application and it seems to give me accurate weather for the region I am in. Not sure about upper air winds, and you do get the cloud popping sometimes. But for a free application I am happy to suffer these minor issues. Sorry cannot say how well it works against the payware products as I don't have any. ( I use it in conjunction with FEX clouds and it works well).

That doesn't mean they work together, so far they do not. I have not managed to have turbulent cockpit motion while running FSGRW.
