Your last 5 add-on purchases

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I have been on a binge lately...

1. OrbX Global = very happy with purchase

2. Aerosoft Twin Otter = Oh, how I love this one!

3. PMDG 747-400x = Getting some tube liner chops to get ready for the 777 (I like)

4. Just Flight's L1011 Tristar = got it for $5 with my saved points! Pretty cool machine.

5. Flight1 Citation Mustang = want to learn the G1000 and am happy with purchase

(also bought their B-200 King Air and Carenado's C182T for a variety of G1000's to try and I like them all)

Not to sound overly enthusiastic about my purchases...

After maybe one (or two) too many adult beverages I purchased Captain Sims 777. I did this after reading the reviews. It was on sale and it was only $10. I say to myself "how bad can it be?" and pull the trigger. To keep this story short, I have a new 'worst developer' podium spot in my brain. I cannot believe after all these years as undisputed champion, Abacus has been dethroned.

One last purchase I would like to mention, made last night and not an add-on. I finally got myself a copy of Prepar3D. Think I may switch for good... much testing needed. :-)

Very interesting lists...

I've spent too much within just the past few months...

Last 5 FS related purchases:

Early May

5.  BK117 Helicopter for XP10 - $29.95 - I fly it little, but then again I fly XP very little as it is.  I bought it because I was trying to "get into" XP10 and the default planes are horrible (minus the king air which is pretty good).  The reason I stopped flying it often is because the acft has custom programmable functions for my joystick and throttle and I have to set them everytime I fly.  It should keep my settings but doesn't.  Also in XP the throttle axis is reversed so I have to switch this everytime I go between fixed wing and helicopter... grrr.  There is a program that is supposed to keep assignments in a profile (X Assign) but mine started crashing and screwing up my main settings and especially the settings for this helicopter so I uninstalled that too.  Overall this helo is quality payware but it just isn't for me.

Early June

4.  Alabeo B17S Staggerwing - $19.95 - I rarely fly this.  It looked so beautiful (I fell into the Carenado/Alabeo trap of "ooooh ahhhhh" again), but flies really well.  The reason I stopped was because it's navigation capabilities are extremely limited (NAV1 with loc needle only - it may have an ADF can't remember).  Also the cockpit visibility isn't great.  Meh, a wasted purchase for me.

Middle of July

3.  Aerosoft Twin Otter - $26ish? - Beautiful acft inside and out.  Pleasant gauges on the eyes, smooth graphics.  Way too slow lol.  vmo is 160 at sea level I believe.  And it lowers drastically every 5000 ft.  The best I could do was about 180 KTAS?  No RXP integration and slowness is the main reason I don't fly it.  Before addon 2 below this claimed to have the best PT6A simulation.  still a great value (I owned previous incarnation), I think the upgrade cost was more than fair.  I'll fly it occasionally... maybe more if and when the amphib comes out. The next day I bought....

2. Flight1's King Air 200 G1000 - $60 - Yes, the plane I've really been flying lately.  It has some issues right off the bat (what doesn't these days) and they were quick to work on a SP for it.  I'm excitedly waiting for that so my rudder works again, but I have been flying this poop out of this plane.  Very fast around 315 KTAS if I really push the engines.  Navigraph support, fps far better than Mustang - a checklist that I can actually follow (not a rw one thrown in the manual where half the stuff has no effect).  It's been my "Go to" acft especially for online flight Pilot Edge.  Maybe just a hair pricier than I would have liked but they got me hooked hehe.  I already ruined two engines.

End of August

1. MU2 for XP10 - $20 - Again since my Carenado BE36 doesn't work in XP x64 until they address the OOM situation I'm stuck with the stock King air (decent), and Baron (meh) and cessna (ick).  I bought this because I knew it's pretty quick and is well equipped nav-wise (no GPS really) and the best thing it has excellent clickspots (the click and drag style).  XP10 has seriously weird click spots and they can be ultra tiny (even in comparison with some small FSX addons).  This MU2 is well done and I got it 40% off from X Aviation.com.  It's really well done they even modeled blackout because my cabin did not pressurize on Pilot Edge this week and I blacked out lol...  ya...  it's great!  Finally an XP addon I can use in peace!

3. FTXGlobal (Haven't seen much of it as I use PNW etc. I just got caught up in the feeding frenzy!)
4. FTX Wales (Why, oh why?)

There are others but we're limited to a miserly five!

- PFPX (In love)

- Alabeo PA38 (Wrists are still healing)

- FTX Global (Again, In love)

- TOPCAT (Hadn't really used it much until PFPX - now in love)

- FSPS FSX Booster (I have no idea why, I just wanted to see how much [insert choiced word here] certain people were talking about it. I don't want to ever relive the moment of sheer disappointment when FSX OOM'd 30 seconds after loading).

My last Five....

Ftx Global....Big hype but it stays..

Aerosoft EFB...Keeps my sim time paperless...

Ideal Flight..Love it...gets me in the air fast and love the random flights to airports I would never think to visit..keeps a log of my flights..

Opus...Love the weather and cameras no problem for me...the wind shifts are a problem sometimes but the developer is working hard on taming that beast..

FSGRW..With all the hype I had to check it out..No wind shifts yet!!! simple, fast, good weather,I like the slider that changes the clouds..

Both weather programs have popin clouds but I can deal with it...The meters are behind with Fsgrw a lot..but for 50 bucks its a keeper..I use Fsgrw with opus cams...

I must give all the developers a standing ovation for making my sim time funn and entertaining.

AivlaSoft's EFB (FSX) - still finding my way around this.

PMDG MD11 for FSX and FS2004 - still finding my way around these.

Milviz B737-200 - still finding my way around this.

PMDG J41 Jetstream (FSX) - not tried this yet.

Get the drift?

Oh, and one more, Profisoft's FS2004 VFR Bavarian scenery Vols 3 and 4 on CD - amazing!

OK, I'll play...  I haven't really bought much lately so I have to go back to May to get 5, though I sorta made up for it today with one rather pricey purchase:

1) ForeFlight Pro subscription - a real-world rather than a sim product, but with the FlightSimGPS utility, its geo-referencing works in FSX.  I'm completely addicted to this product and all it does; obviously or I wouldn't have popped for the rather pricey subscription.  One month free trial if you want to try, though the trial doesn't include geo-referencing on approach and airport diagram plates.   (North American only, I'm afraid, but that's where I fly).

2) Carenado Malibu Mirage - my first Carenado in a while.  I like it, but final judgement is deferred pending (hopefully) a couple of bug fixes

3) MSE v2 Arizona

4) MSE v2 New Mexico

5) MSE v2 Colorado - One lump comment on the MSE products: I still have a love/hate relationship with photo scenery, but for these areas I grit my teeth and exercise a higher level of suspension of disbelief getting in and out of airports and enjoy superb VFR flights by pure pilotage.

August was an expensive month:

1. FTX Global. Game changer for FSX. Allows me to fly in regions I've never spent much time in because the default scenery was so bad.

2. Ideal Flight. I was looking for something to give me more structure. This fit the bill, but then I started reading about Air Hauler. Thus...

3. Air Hauler. Totally addicted. I started with a base in Europe. On the advice of some good people here, I've opened a new one in PNG. Purchased the Pacsim PNG Bush package for some airports.

4. Carenado Caravan and Cargomaster add on. I needed a nice cargo plane for Air Hauler. This is now my favorite plane along with the Legacy.

5. FSGRW. My first weather add on. Not perfect, but I like it a lot. Flying real weather in PNG is tough! Does the fog in valleys ever go away?

1. PFPX ... Loving it so far. I did my first flight with it earlier taking the NGX YBBN-YBTL. Fuel was very close to the predictions and predicted flight time was 1:39. Low and behold my actual flight time was exactly 1:39. Doing a MD-11 Freight run WSSS-VHHH now to see how close that is. I've also done a few 777 flightplans for next weekend. Looking forward to the KLAX-YBAS run.

2. Just Flight Tristar ... I brought on sale for $8 knowing full well that is pretty basic. I probably do the odd run for fun every now and then. Definitely glad I didn't pay $45 for it though.

3. Latin VFR Kingston MKJP ... Nice little Caribbean airport I've only done a single flight in so far

4. Air Hauler ... Started a little airline based out of KNEW. Did a couple of flights isn't really my sort of thing.

I have a few #5's that were purchased in the same transaction

5a. Latin VFR Bermuda TXKF ... Nicely done love the approach in.

5b. Latin VFR Key West KEYW ... Nice short runway love taking the 737 in and out.

5d. Aerosoft/29 Palms Skiathios LGSK ... Love this airport only done the one flight in so far
