New "revolutionary" version of Active Sky coming

Featured Replies

*finally*? I've never disabled turbulence and never had an issue using any PMDG products with AS2012/FSGRW using turbulence.

With turbulence enabled I get S-turns with the Sim Check A300 and erratic yoke/a/t movements on the PMDG MD-11.  I know I'm not the only one experiencing this when turbulence is enabled.  It's a known problem in FSX when using some complex airplanes and real weather.

they were actually the creators of the modern concept of a weather injector.

I think you just might find that honour goes to Marc Philibert's FS Meteo waaaaaay back in the days of FS2000.

Let's see how they do with oceanic weather.

Nope, I had that one too, and even FSUIPC had it's own weather injector :-)

We can0t compare FS Meteo to any of the AS products :-)  It is simply a METAR parser...

It has been mentioned some three weeks ago which is how old the announcement is. We are all still waiting for the full feature list that should have been published 'during the coming days'... which have already passed by now and there is nothing but silence.

Maybe they will surprise me but it sure feels like they are desperately trying to keep everyone from buying OpusFSX or FSGRW...

I tend to agree. An announcement of a forthcoming announcement "in the coming days". Here we are three weeks later. If this is any indication that they cannot even get the announcement out in an orderly fashion then when they announce details I would suspect the "coming soon" is a long way off. Think they want to stem the tide of defections. I smell hyperbole.

I think it only fair to wait and see before labeling anything a "marketing gimmick".

My thoughts exactly. Why post a pre-release announcement that tells us that we're gonna get everything we have ever wanted and then not providing us with the full feature list within those 'coming days'? Really looks they're buying themselves some time there.

I am very happy with FSGRW now, so unless they really come up with something groundbreaking, which I don't honestly expect, I'll give this one a pass.

Best regards,

Hmmmm, Wayne, I am guessing you might know something!

The one very obviously missing piece in all weather engines so far is how clouds are affected by winds.  That's a feature I guess that will demand a much more resource hungry weather engine and probably isn't possible w/ FSX.  But that is an area we would experience big increases in realism we just don't have now.  Beyond this, the weather has been addressed good enough by several engines now.  It sounds like another pretty face on a very old and very mature product bound at this point by limitations in  FSX.

Oh for pete's sake! it is JUST an announcement! Reading ANYTHING in to it other than that is just plain stupid. You've been reading WAY too many sinister spy novels. The feature list will be forthcoming when it is ready, not before. If the product is as good as they say it is, it won 't make ANY difference if they've purchased another product.

To do so would need the code that is in place and causing the issues to be bypassed if it can't be altered directly. How could AS possibly do this? Regardless of any way to get data into FS the 'faulty' code will still be performing its tasks undermining whatever it is you are trying to do.

Actually it is quite easy - from the sdk one could get entry points - determine where the code starts and ends - insert a jump to your own code and return it where it is supposed to be.

I've never tried it is FSX but I've done it many times before back in my wilder days.

IAC, how they accomplish what they promise is unimportant - only IF they accomplish it - and it has been my experience that HiFi has generally delivered on their promises.

Call me old school but I am still chugging along with Active Sky Evolution. I have failed to see anything remotely better on the market and I feel inclined to believe that most of these new "weather engines" are mere service packs marketed as "new" products...

Until I see results that look extremely accurate without the FSX weather issues, I think I am going to hold onto my money rather than fall for a marketing gimmick.

Well... you're just wrong about your first thought and if you're holding your money for a free weather issues fsx, you'll save it for ever...

LOL! This is so funny. We used to complain about developers not talking about any new products or release date until they we're ready. Then we would complain that they didn't deliver on their promises. NOW we complain about a pre-release announcement? Would anyone care to give me the QUANTIFIABLE amount of days that would be considered "coming"? To me it means anytime in the future - one month? 6 months? 1 week? - all qualify.

I'm thinking the flightsim community is getting bored.

Patience is a virtue.

So, so true.  And when a developer says "it's an FSX limitation", some of us howl in protest, then when a developer says they've found a way around it, others say "that's impossible, it's an FSX limitation".

At this point, the original posting was interesting.  It still is.  Hopefully when they're ready the developer will say more and as we get more information, THEN we can evaluate it.  Personally, I'd wait until then to form much in the way of an opinion on the product.  Just sayin'.

BTW, of COURSE the developer is trying to maintain a high level of interest in their product line in the face of increasing competition.  Doing that is hardly a "marketing gimmick", it's just good sense.
