FSX Fiber Accelerator?

Featured Replies

This is painful to watch.  Froogle spends half the video flying a circuit without even using the Fiber Accelerator.   Too much goofing around in this for me.

I agree it was not well thought out but appreciate all the hard work He has done

To all the sceptics out there.

I was also  in that boat, I found that the demo did not really last long enough and although the price is very steep I went for it after watching a video someone had posted.

It does work.

My average frames have gone up by 6/7 fps. There is a noticeable change to the scenery when flying low in crowded areas (less sharp).

The most surprising thing was in a combination of scenery that always causes an OOM, this program stopped FSX crashing and allowed me to land, although to be fair the runway was just a black strip.

Just in case you think this is on a basic setup: it is PMDG 737NG,DX10, Steve's fixer, Rex 4, Radar Contact, Win7 64bit, and scenery Orbx FTX.

Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.

I feel it is one of Froogles worst done videos. It's too long showing too little useful info. Kind of uncharacteristic of him to do so.

Thanx for the demo! I highly respect anyone who offers a demo :good:

It noticeably increased my fps & smoothness at heavy airports with the NGX & rex.

The only problem I have are the rwy lights that are black squares for 1 sec, every time I turn my view towards them(TrackIR)?

Kind regards
R.G

Don't really use FSX anymore, but this made my DX10 FSX that much sweeter. If they can incorporate  AAPU, I'm sold.

Hi Tom,

Yes, if I've been running in an area where Fiber has set the framerate to unlimited and I then exit the flight and exit FSX, Fiber is shut down, and the FSX framerate is left at unlimited. Don't know that there's a way around that (you might try KILL), but I'm more interested in having utilities start with FSX than the shutdown order, so it's not a dealbreaker for me.

Regards,

John Francis

Same here, and I think it is somehow connected to using EZDOK camera that always holds up closing of fsx.exe and executables that are in exe.xml.

Dirk.

Hi Pete,

No it works exactly as you explain. Unfortunately, a side effect of RunIf=READY, if you're runnning full screen, is that FSX bops back out to the desktop to fire up Fiber, which is sort of annoying. Dropping the READY and it just starts up with FSX which works perfectly for me.

Thanks!

John Francis

Removing READY also fixed minimizing of FSX full screen to the desktop, and I had option Start Minimized selected in FSX FA.

Thanks for sharing, it was really annoying.

Dirk.

im curius; is this SODE based?

(sorry if this was already asked; too many pages to sift through)

I have tried that in the past but it did impact performance at dense airports like EGLL quite severely. It seems to have an impact even when there's no water in sight, which is weird. Maybe I'll try it again with FA running.

[LATER]

No. it's bad. With Water effects = 3 (my normal setting), my test scenario at EGLL gives frame rates 16-30 with FS, depending which way I look, and smooth. With Water effects only increased to 4 I get 2-12 with terrible jerks and even pauses.

I prefer better performance with the occasional flash -- they aren't frequent in any case.

Pete

This is from NickN about water (effects):

As for BP 0... Quite honestly, that tweak also depends on the hardware in the system, the drivers, the users settings and a lot of other factors if it works without nasty issues. With some people that tweak crashes their system. I posted in the past it can be used under the right circumstances, or, you can use a poolsize and reject threshold to accomplish just about the same result without requiring adding 2 shader passes to the render with water 2xHigh.. I think thats nuts!

To be quite frank I would not run 2xHigh water just to run that silly tweak and instead would use the reject threshold

[bUFFERPOOLS]

UsePools=1

Poolsize=8388608

RejectThreshold=126976

The above also works very well on my system. Perhaps a few frames less (1-2? not even sure) but less gfx oddities.

Thanks for WATER_EFFECTS=3, inland waters and the seas still look great from above, with extra (about +4) frames.

Dirk.

I typically really like and appreciate Frooglesims reviews.  Trustworthy source IMHO.  However, I liked this review much better.

Using these reviews is silly, people should just run the demo!  Do not rely on some video that shows it running on a machine that is not your own, you will NOT get identical results.   The developer took the effort to make the demo, so just try it!  Sheesh man :P

Hi all,

well... we are reading with a lot interest your comments here and the uncountable emails we get every day. (this is getting out of hand actually , because we like to answer them all)

So you'd better know that we are deep in the Dev room improving the application to your needs & likes.

Stay around & keep the feedback coming, we will have some good news, very soon.

I3770k at 4.2, HD7970, eyefinity 6040 x 1080 (windowed), Orbx Australia, NGX, FS2 Crew, VoxAtc, ASN (raining), Virtual Avionics app, EZca, REX4 (2048 textures) 2 tweaks to cfg only.

At YMML (default airport), I generally get 28-30 fps, airborne to YSSY I get 40-50.

At YMML (Orbx airport), generally cuts my frames in half 15-18 fps, airborne to YSSY same 40-50

Fibre at YMML (Orbx) only allows low at 22 fps without going to unlimited, with high set to 50 fps. It froze EZca momentarily on a few occasions and flickered between 18 and 22 fps, with no noticeable smoothness improvements. Taxiways and runways appeared to be a little washed out and had to bump up low settings airborne for smoothe Ezca.

I will pass this time around, but keep an eye open in the future for any possible improvements.

First, this thread has gotten very, very long.   can we not have a forum specifically for this tool?  Something tells me we need it now and in the future.

 -------------

Ok, I have now had a couple of days and a few hours to play with the FSPS Fiber Accelerator.  Good tool.  It does what it says it will. However, understand, this tool is for very tactical real time management of both FPS and environment presentation.

While you can adjust a slider that will tweak both FPS and terrain clarity up and down, on the fly, the need to do so is dependent on the aircraft  you fly, the weather you fly in, and the scenery complexity.   I find that it also is very dependent on the speed of the aircraft you are flying and what you are doing.

I find the seattle area to be hammering on my PC.  My default flight is the default C172 and Bremerton Intl.   Close enough to Seattle without the big airport.  I also like to fly either GA or military aircraft.   I am not currently into the big airliners.

My experience is that I can fly the C172 both low and slow with 24 FPS as the low frame rate level in FA.  This generates very clear textures on my Orbx/FTX PNW scenery with global vectors and Pilots mesh.   However, if I fire up Dino Cattaneo's T-45 and go low level very fast, there is no way in hell the scenery is going to keep up.   Especially in urban areas, I get the blurries.    No problem with the slower simpler C172.    If I reduce the low FPS setting in FA, I get slightly better performance, but still wont catch up even down to 13 FPS.

Now, I run an almost new Lenovo X510 Erazor PC.   i7-4470k CPU,  32 GB of RAM and a Nvidia 650 GTX video card.  3TB of SATA HD space with 1TB F drive completely dedicated to FSX.  All this under Win 8.1 64 bit.

This tool works but its very, very tactical.  I have to spend almost as much time playing with the LFPS slider in FA as working the simulation itself.  All under windowed mode.  I prefer Full Screen.

My only thought for future versions would be the ability to save a configuration file associated with a specific aircraft and or scenery/scenario.   My hope would be to tweak once and forget about it.  Unfortunately, the nature of this tool is dynamic management of the sims behavior as much as AC systems.

Yes I as I stated before their products are always being upgraded - which is a very good thing now dont forget P3D as I would think its not going to change from the current version in a major way for quite a while

I already posted a couple suggestions I personally think would improve this already very cool app:

1. Add hability to set a minimum for the terrain engine to avoid excesive blurs. I know one could just lower the minimum frame rate and that is supposed to be set based on a worst case scenario where you get the biggest performance hit, but one may fly there only occasionally and that may be too conservative.

2. Keyboard shortcuts to change the target frame rate on the fly, so we don't need to go windowed to tweak FA.

3. Not sure there's a way to implement this, but here it goes anyway: Detect a GPU bottleneck (high AA settings + clouds) situation to keep FA from trying to get frames back by reducing terrain loading in that case.

Some of us run AA levels that limit performance in clouds, meaning that with clear skies FA works as it's supposed to, but in bad weather the GPU is maxed out and there's nothing FA can do to fix that. In that scenario our frames will be low no matter what, and no unlimited frame rates or minimum terrain loading will make things any better, so it blurs things out unnecessarily when it could be doing the opposite since there's CPU power to spare to sharpen the scenery. Maybe add GPU usage to the parameters FA handles, and/or check if the main thread is not maxed out to determine a possible GPU bottleneck. Or simply avoid further terrain engine power reductions if it's not helping increase your frame rate as it should in a "normal" CPU limited situation.
