Steam is fantastic. Can't see why any PC gamer would shy away from it.

They said that they were allowed to make some bug fixes as well.

Maybe Saitek/Mad Catz doesn't know what they are talking about, but they also stated in their blog (regarding the Steam closed beta for FSX) that DTG was making "bug fixes" to FSX.

Changing the DX10 shader source code would probably be in line with that type of approach.

Steam probably saved PC gaming from complete annihilation, since software pirates had just about killed PC gaming.

Hopefully they will fix the dreaded windows 8 joystick disconnect issue.

Steam's Winter Sale is December 18th so it's going to get a lot of exposure!

Excuse if this info is already posted. This is a quote from another forum. Good news indeed especially if they can come to an agreement with ORBX

Most add-ons will be compatible. http://www.gamer.no/...pa-steam/166200

Quote from Lidia Rumley, who is handling PR for them in Europe (this is her exact quote, not a translation): "There are so many add ons currently available for FSX that we cannot promise that all of them will work. FSX: Steam Edition is installed in a different way to the boxed version and occupies a different location so it is possible that some add-ons may not work, but rest assured that we have made strenuous efforts to make sure as many of them as possible work.  Where add-ons do not work with FSX: Steam Edition, we will try to work with the developer or publisher of the add-on to try to make it compatible in the future."

That's why I'm holding off on a re-purchase. Wait and see.

Ads for new content for TS2015 appear on GUI of the game,  The above option to turn them off worked. They also appear when loading the actual session. Essentially it's just a screenshot slideshow of the latest routes and trains available for purchase on Steam. As I said it's no big deal,

Umm, that was Dovetail that put that in there.

Steam has no control over what is in games. DTG chose to advertise other DLCs in their game's loading screen, and you can't turn that off (AFAIK) because DTG really wants your $$$$  :Money Eyes:

If they didn't fix the uiautomationcore.dll problem and the joystick issues on win 8/8.1 (since they're touting win 8.1 compatibility in that article), there's going to be a lot of angry steam users if they're new to FSX or the FS world in general. If however they've fixed all that, addons are not an issue, and it includes all of the Acceleration pack features I'm definitely buying a copy of it.

my joystick has always worked in W8 and 8.1

I agree, it's amazing, everything in one place, planes/scenery/keys

Well said! That is at least most of us look at it that way.

Steam offers a wide selection of development and production software as well. It's no longer just a gaming marketplace.

Lol pull the other one guys.

So that's what all you men tell your partners ""HONESTLY love were not just playing games you know we're serious simers here".

It's amazing to the sh@@ us woman have to Listen to :)

That is a really easy one Poppet.  The man prints out the entire 737 manual and places it in a gigantic binder that he leaves by the toilet.  Then she comes along and is like "ooh, what a man, he reads the '737 Flight Crew Operations Manual, Part II' ".  She is then, very impressed. :P

Seriously though, I wonder if there won't be a bunch of kiddies downloading FSX to their laptops thinking they are getting a game, and then being turned off by the fact that as far as games go, FSX really doesn't offer much in that department.  I know for me though, to make it more than that takes a lot of work, and that doesn't strike me as compatible with the download-and-play/plug in DLC model that I associate with Steam.  It could very well be that I just don't have enough experience with Steam to know otherwise.

We will soon find out, but I tend to agree with you.
