P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense

I believe that rain effects are a FPS hog, which probably many people would turn off anyway.

In fact rain effect is what I base my buying decisions on when looking for a new plane. Also thinking of going to XPlane as rain effects are quite common in that sim.

Oh i love the rain effects with the wipers flying,  whilst fighting through a dark night     Yes i like the rain effects in the Turbine Duke.  I'm hoping that A2A will model it in the future.

The folks at PreciptFX have done a very good job at managing the FX they use/change to work with FSX/P3D ... especially the rain and snow and turbine/prop wash wheel spray etc. etc.

Yes and a very good price as well of 14 Euro,  will deffo get this.

Anyways,  no P3D news from me, just hoping and waiting

Nononononononooooooo. Not Lock it, it's far to sci-fi fantasy land and entertaining for that ! Just give it a topic title that actually reflects the reality - it's  wishlist, not a fact finding mission.  :Tounge:

The reason I mentioned it is because if you discover the topic by way of a google search, you will be misled into thinking there are facts in these 16 pages, not the fantasy and make believe that really is the core of this genuinely entertaining, yet pleasantly irrelevant topic. It's fun, but there are no facts here to qualify as 'news' !  :nea:

Are rain effects on the windshield really that much of an FPS hog or is it some other limitation with using them. Why is it that Train Simulator can use rain on the windshield with them being wiped away with the wipers doesnt really cause any issue? Granted its a very small world in TS, but im sure it would be something to consider if possible and use it per preference and performance and compromise to using other effects.

As I understand it, there are a limited number of animations per aircraft in P3D/FSX. Most developers have chosen to use those animations for other functions of the aircraft, rather than dedicate them to rain on the windscreen.

I may buy a water bottle with a spray attachment and spray the monitor when it is raining heavily.

There are many ways to perform this effect without using animations.  The dev can pretty much do whatever they like in the VC but I'm certainly not suggesting the work is "easy" to do ... but since VC's vary from aircraft to aircraft a "generic" animation/FX just would NOT work very well.

I like that idea, and for fog I can get me a movie grade fog machine and fill up my sim room with FOG ... but what about bird strikes and bug splats? ... if my Wife stays with me after this, then I know she's not in it for the money ... haha

Cheers, Rob.

but what about bird strikes and bug splats? ...

Hahahaha :Applause:    Loving the mental image of your BugCannon Alan - but there would always be a hard-core of disenchanted simmers complaining about the loss of FPS (feet per second) when using the heavy turkey version... not to mention the extra cost of yet another Add-On in the form of a Hard Hat (as per Kuragiman's Avatar). :vava:

Stupidly expensive rig, nonplussed Memsahib, disinterested offspring and a fascinated cat as Rio.  XP11, P3Dv3 and an Oculus Rift.

If we're going down that route then there is also the CH Products SKS  - Soggy Knee Simulator, provides for appropriate dampness to the trouser region just like kneeling on damp grass to check the fuel drains or using the club mat when it's already sodden.  :Hmmmph:

Then we also need the Thrustmaster SFID - Shut Finger In Door tool - it's a desktop clamp that you insert your fingers into and, at random moments with the aircraft on the ground it will snap shut with varying degrees of force.

That's the GA version, the commercial version will successfully simulate the arm on the pilots chair hitting your funny bone. :Black Eye:

Finally there's the necessary 'PWR' tools the SiLiFt and the companion WILFS.

Ideal for use with the water effects as that's when you find them most (when it's Peeing With Rain):

That's "S~~t, I Left the Flashlight In the Flightbag !"

and

"Where did I Leave that F... Screwdriver ?"

All compulsory for the true aviating experience as any fule kno and MUST be in P3D v3.

Any idea what's coming in v3.0?

One thing's for sure, it'll be no turkey. Maybe a bit of thanksgiving though ....  Ouch!!!!!

Steady on with the jokes chaps.... I'm sure that I read somewhere that this Forum is for Academic Use only and not for 'Entertainment' Purposes. :P

Will a Hostess be coming with this package as well? For educational purposes of course? It IS, of course, a 'professional' package & I will be expecting professional service!

By the way, will that be considered an add-in? (Not for entertainment, of course, but a learning tool!)

don't forget to mount the desktop fan so the breeze blows at you when you have a headwind too. :)
