P3D v 4 in beta?

Of cause the memory must be manage otherwise it will cripple the system just as much as the 32 bit application.

You miss the point. With a large enough address space, it's all memory mapped I/O. The kernel can manage physical memory better than you can.

Cheers!

I wish LM would put out a statement either confirming or denying this rumor.

I think it's pretty much a given. They either go 64bit or disappear and various hints (especially ORBX) would confirm it is indeed the case. I mean it's 2017, it's about time this happened. I don't even think it's possible to buy a 32-bit only computer anymore.

64bit will help with smoothing, because the need to do I/O operations will be limited to only the initial load of a resource, and memory cleanup can happen when the moments are available instead of a desperate attempt to juggle what's in memory.  But if memory is not properly managed in a 32bit you won't see that work out in a 64bit.  Most of the stutter we see is because of I/O.

I'm not a coder but this was my assumption on this topic.  To have all of that VAS to play seems like it would indeed give much more flexibility in how code flows and end up contributing to not only no more OOMs but the smoothness factor.

No, it can not.  You can't just throw everything you want at the CPU and expect it to come out in the order you want it to.

denali, go read about memory mapped files. It's why even phones with 1GB of memory are going 64-bit early because it makes handling large number of files easy in a situation where you are physical memory-limited.

No one's talking about throwing anything at the CPU.

Cheers!

Well, now you're talking about throwing memory-mapped files at the CPU.  lol

I was about to purchase P3d and make the switch from fsx-se. With this release possibly coming up in the near future I'm wondering if I should just pass and wait. I would hate to shell out money for a license only to have to reach back into my pocket again later this year.

And therein lies the problem with rumors. Wait or not? V4 could be this month or 10 months from now.

That said, something tells me it's going to be sooner than later so waiting might not be a bad idea.

Based on LM's previous patterns, I would expect v4 to be released toward the end of the year.
