My next flight will be in MSFS2020

I think a lot of people take simming way too seriously

Sure. Most people only fly single player on DCS. You can do campaigns, single missions, user generates content or even design your own sorties.

Great stuff.

The only thing that really missing is a dynamic campaign system, something that is apparently being worked on.

Cool.  One of my favourite games ever was DiD’s ef2000 because (apart from the amazing graphics at the time) it had a perpetual ground and air campaign that you join in with - it kept going whether you did or not. A bit like a rogue-like I guess but with military aeroplanes.

Exact same thing for me. I actually haven't flown since the trailer reveal lol, only been controlling on Vatsim...

Personally I don't mind at all having "only" basic aircraft at release, I know I'll have fun as long as the flight dynamics are decent (ie not worse than P3D) and the sim if fluid. It will be a new experience, finally, and that's all I'm asking for.

I haven't seen the Moon yet in MS FLIGHT SIMULATOR, so I'm on hold....

Welp, time to begin my stellar experience flying my amazing PMDG 747-8 between Latin VFR KMIA and Flightbeam SEQM with my awesome FS2 Crew, Acusim weather and eye awing ASCA so I can enjoy bueatiful cloud scapes and awesome sky colors. I will fly a challenging decent into the Andies Mountians enhansed by ORBX Globle SA with ORBX autogen trees and buildings cranked up to enjoy, cloud cover permitting. If I'm good enough to get her in ( very realisticly challenging) I'll enjoy a rumbling landing and sights of a wonderful add-on airport. All this made possible by the world's leading military aircraft maker and their amazing P3DV5.5. Thanks LM. It's a great time to be alive.

Now what's this about waiting on a new sim not even released yet?

To be fair to nas123 (and contrary to my opening gambit in this thread), I can understand why someone might take a look at what appears to be a revolutionary step forward in flight simulation graphics, and suddenly feel like they are unable to continue using what they have. I have always stated that if no flight simulators were good enough for my requirements (and that most definitely does include the quality of the graphics), then I would not be flying on my computer at all. This nearly happened to me between the release of FS5 at the end of 1993 and the rise of Flight Unlimited 2 in 1997. I was so disappointed with Microsoft Flight Simulator during the mid to late 1990s, that I ended up using Flight Unlimited 3 (and the FU2 San Francisco scenery) exclusively between 1999 and 2008. If the Flight Unlimited series had never appeared, it is quite possible that I would have given up on flight simulation for at least a decade.

Isn’t the quality (or lack of) the flight model important to you? There are more import things in life than looks. Third party aircraft have always had superior flight models to the default aircraft in Microsoft flight sims for as long as I can remember.

In the July 11th update, they said they were aware of the importance of a new flight model.  This won't be on-rails P3D.  They know what we want.

Knowing and delivering are not the same. Microsoft (and LM) have never delivered default aircraft with high quality flight models. I’m not holding my breath. The models will be of sufficient quality for the masses but will not be of reference standard. That is why we have a flourishing third party market.

Same here, I have not touched XP since the trailer while I did 3 or 4 flights per week before. I don't regret what I have invested in XP because that's just how life goes. Now I just prefer doing other things (yes they are other things in life :p) and I share @Christopher Low 's philosophy about flight simulators not being good enough for my requirements.

I found now myself looking at youtube videos about Azure, photogrametry... understanding how it works and imagining what the capabilities for the sim could be, all of this takes a lot of time an I don't have a lot!

And i don't mind waiting, I won't be disapointed. They stated they will provide information about flight model, weather etc... I assume they will not tell us "flight model will be good but not as good as XP" or weather will be similar than Active Sky or REX", so I am pretty sure all of this will be better than what we have now. Not to mention scenery! I don't mind flying default aircraft if they look as good as in the trailer an just visiting the world in a True Sky like atmosphere. I know I am an optimistic guy but I am pretty positive Microsoft will not let us down.

I hope you are wrong here, standards today are just not the same than 15 years ago.

The fact that they mentioned a new flight model tells me they are developing one.  Will it be 'reference standard'?  I don't know, but I'm confident it will be better than what we have now.

yep me too. Flew the 748 yesterday from FB SEQM to FB KSFO and will continue such things until MSFS comes out.

If one is truly a flight simmer, they cannot simply stop flight simming for anything under their control.

Will be flying from KSFO to AS EGLL in the 77W in a few minutes. 👨‍✈️

So you are enjoying addons, not the sim itself 😕

Not everyone could afford simulators that way. Some of us hold the default sim for a while.

Microsoft's ESP (aka P3D), and the "new" Microsoft Flight Simulator ... operative being "Microsoft" in both cases.  Do you think your CTDs will magically go away with code from the same company?

AVSIM has a wealth of information dealing with end user issues covering CTDs in FSX (Microsoft), P3D (Microsoft core with Lockheed Martin enchancements), XP11 (Laminar Research), etc.

The frequency of me hitting a CTD (in XP or P3D) is about 1 in 10,000+ flight hours ... the only time that changes is when I'm testing Beta software and even then it's rare.  Maybe you need to change your UserId to something else if you hate all the current sims so much?  Having seen much of the same from end users where AF2 was the next best thing since sliced bread, then it was FSW was the next best thing since sliced bread, now it's Microsoft's "new" Flight Simulator is the next best thing since sliced bread ... from my observations, Flight Simulation is never going to satisfy some people and the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill.

Cheers, Rob.

There's no hate for any sim. I've been at it for 30 years, but work and family obligations leaves me no time to tweak or problem solve. P3D is still better than anything I could imagine possible back in the day.

That being said, I am very excited to see a new sim in the works that seem to include many of the features I like out of the box, features that aren't priorities of P3D or X-Plane. AFS2 is moving in the right direction, but is still too basic. Still I support all platforms and have TBs of addons.

As for CTDs one can always hope they'll be a thing of the past, but software will always have bugs. And when you throw a wealth of mods/addons into the mix problems will occur. But much like FSX had a lot to offer out of the box with no addons I hope the new MSFS will do the same.

The problem with the flighsim from Microsoft is that I have lost all interest in simming in P3D. It just looks outdated and boring, even before MSFS2020 is released.

The first new flight I will be firing up is going to be in MSFS2020.

Is it just me?

I kind of feel the same way, but with respect to X-plane 11.  I ditched P3D after the Rex EF debacle because I'm tired of the lousy-looking P3D environment, even with tweaks.  X-plane is light years better by default, so after 3 years and about 4k in addons, I made the switch and couldn't be happier.  However, now I'm drooling over MSFS and X-plane has lost a lot of its luster lol.  Hopefully this impending release will force both developers to step up and bring their sims to the next level.  Then we can have some real choices...
