I know it's impossible to please everyone but I much prefer the way the lights looked before the patch. Seems like cities now look like an illuminated circuit board I hate this look! Will rather not fly at night until they revert back to the more subtle night lighting of before the patch

There is no global data regarding road lighting, which means it has to be manipulated by hand, which really isn’t practical. There is no good algorithm to calculate this. Think about it, if it was easy, it would have already been done. There was nothing in my post to suggest it was easy, or that it would be addressed at all. My post was purely in reference to a statement that suggested it was bs that rural roads in real life aren't lit because they lived in the suburbs and there were street lights there. Instead of using as light source FULL SPHERE which are spreading lights in all directions, they have to use a HALF SPHERE with light directed to the down. Nope, light distribution is currently evenly spaced, that makes it look dull. It`s an early stage I guess it will be likely further improved. What they really need and already is implemented in DirectX is the light intensity and glow based on the view of angle. Lamps don`t emit light evenly. Also, the more farther away and dense light is, the more brighter the atmosphere gets. X-Plane and its mods are unbeatable for that. X-Plane Night An example how I would consider the bespoken picture will be evolved: A little too strong just to show the effects. Guess light will be further improved in FS. I personally like it the way it has changed. Edited October 31, 20205 yr by BigDee

Could the night lighting also be aesthetically pleasing to people who have not flown at night at the same time, regardless of the realism. What i mean is is there a contradiction here that Asobo have to somehow balance? Icewater5, for those who have flown or not if your going to call this a simulator effort has to be made to do just that. Asobo has and is doing a great job to a point on FS2020's worst day this is better than any other option available for simulated flight. Visuals are subjective but this doesn't cut it just like the Dolphin Dance and now the wing rock above 35,000ft doesn't cut it for the Longitude and any other aircraft that has this problem. This sim is still under development and all of us in the community play a part in making this sim the best it can be so it can be successful. Accepting sub par visuals is not what we should do. Asobo is still working on this and our feedback is very important. I thought the title of the thread was a bit harsh given the comparative screenshots (subjective) and i will stand back and look forward to actually getting Fs2020🙂

November 1, 20205 yr Asobo, please do not bake into the night lighting the atmospherics. Either give us atmospherics depending on the weather or just leave it as is. Each person would then demand the night that he/she saw on a particular day on their city/village/desert. 20 years ago, Christmas eve, I did my night flying cross country at DFW.. I remember the gorgeous night lighting of DFW. I had pretty much unlimited visibility and it looked pretty much like this. If a city is built like a circuit board, expect a circuit board night lighting. Edited November 1, 20205 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 1, 20205 yr 16 pages regarding night lighting... seriously? And the overall conclusion is that some like it and some don't. Imagine that! Take a look at the night lighting in the competing products and if night lighting is your thing then be grateful we have a third option. If you're expecting this simulator to mimic a view you'd see in real life (someone suggested garage and porch lights) you should realistically lower your expectations. This is a tremendous NEW simulation and with a solid commitment from the development team, will only get better with time!
