I'm wearing a reasonable Sekonda quartz at the moment, my dress watch as it were:

That’s a great looking watch.  Reminds me of a Bell & Ross which are made to resemble aircraft gauges...

Another supercool aviation watch are the Bremont aircraft watches and they are very difficult to get your hands on.

This one is displayed is dedicated to below aircraft: CATHAY PACIFIC BOEING 747-467 Registration: VR-HOW

it’s actually for sale on eBay...

Would love to get my hands on an old RAF Omega from the WW2 era.

And finally... here is a cool little story about the watch Tom Hardy wore in the movie Dunkirk ... when you have time check it out...

The story of the Omega watch in Dunkirk is perfect Sunday reading for watch people

I used to think I could pick up a Breitling for about $800.  Then I started actually shopping for one...

I had a chance to buy a fake Rolex on the streets of DC back in 1991, but I didn't do it.

I got these beauties:

The Samsung smartwatch (to the left) for day-to-day operations (and for marking all WhatsApp messages as Seen), while the Invicta analog is for outdoors (trekking, camping, etc.). The chronograph in the Invicta was broken a year ago during my last trip to Colombia. I was in a security line at SKBO when my watch dropped. All the watchmaker could do is to stick the chrono hands in a fixed position.

However, I miss this one:

Casio Edifice EF-527D-1AV. Somehow I lost it when I divorced 4 years ago. I could import the watchface into my smartwatch, but I'm not sure of making the integrated slide rule work.

I had a chance to buy a Rolex at a really good price. Until I noticed that Rolex was spelled with two X's 🙂.

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

If you just want the looks, there are plenty of knock offs about on the intertron, although obviously your conscience must be the guide for that kind of thing, and they won't be anywhere near the quality and durability of the real things, almost certainly with a movement that is cheap and nasty under the flashy appearance, so you'll not fool a real expert with one of them. You also need to be aware that even wearing one of them is a criminal offence in some countries where the real things are made. So if you really want a Rolex or a Breitling or whatever, you're better off just saving up for the real thing.

Ironically, I actually bought my partner Fifi a very flashy and expensive watch for her present this Christmas - Olivia Burton, London - it's really lovely and it cost a few quid. When she opened it up from the flashy jeweller's presentation wrapping it was in, she said, oh it's too nice to wear.

So she took it to the jewellers for them to adjust the strap by removing a link or two from the strap because even though I do that on my own watches and am sure I could have done it, I wanted to be sure that it didn't get any damage when tapping the pins out. They did it for free since it was expensive. She's not worn it since. 🤣

This was mine until it was stolen when I transfered to NAS Alameda in 1971.  Sure was accurate!

😂😂

Well in all fairness you probably could pick one up for that price but it most likely wouldn’t be in working order, stolen or just in pieces.

It’s funny that when I got mine, I opted for the shiny polished braclet rather than some of the others braclet options because the polished steel matched the case. The only problem is that it’s so highly polished that it can scratch really easily. Knock on wood, I haven’t scratched mine yet, but for that reason, I tend to not wear it too often out of fear of putting a nick in it.

That being said, I wear my TAG as a daily watch and over the course of three years, haven’t even put a small scratch on it. I am pretty self conscious about moving my hand/arm around to make sure I don’t bump it against anything.

Thats really the only downside to buying expensive watches is the fear factor of damaging them or having them stolen.

That being said, I bought my wife a nice TAG about 7 years ago and hers looks like she went through ARMY boot camp with it. I polish it once in a while to try to keep it as pristine as possible and ask her why it’s so beat up. She has no explanation, so I doubt I’ll ever buy her another nice watch and just stick to jewelry or purses for her.

I used to buy that kind of stuff. Now I just stick to things like lawn mowers and electric hedge clippers. It's cheaper and it helps her get the outdoor chores done faster so she has more time for cooking and cleaning the house.

Got ya beat!  I bought my wife a rather expensive watch that featured tiny diamonds and rubies around the bezel.  She loved it!  Wore it everywhere... until she lost it somewhere.  I hope whoever found it is enjoying it.

I own three watches (that are still in my possession), two of which have dead batteries.

  1. Seiko Quartz
  2. Citizen Quartz
  3. Timex Indiglo (like Chock's but with Arial font instead of Times Roman)

I love the Indiglo since I can light it up by pushing the stem winder. The only drawback is that it is difficult to pull the stem only half-way to set the day/date depending on which way you turn the stem.

Have an Invicta. Too big. I Want a Citizen Blue Angel's or a Navihawk.

I've been partial to 24 hour watches for some time and I may well end up buying another one. The hour hand goes around the dial once in 24 hours..   I had a cheap, fake Raketa brand with a picture of the Lunokhod lander on it, which worked OK until I accidentally dropped it onto a hard floor!

A quick internet search has led me to quite a selection.. and a selection of prices too!
