March 19, 20215 yr Just saw this on Nvidias website, seems abit hard to believe, double performance.... https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/microsoft-flight-simulator-rtx-30-series-performance/ MSFS. March 19, 20215 yr a test done by the manufacturer, better wait until independent gamers can or cannot confirm that.
March 19, 20215 yr Double performance how? Many cases we are CPU limited, which means no matter which card you have, it will be still CPU limited AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display

March 19, 20215 yr Going from a 1080 to a 3090 was indeed a stunning jump in performance. Right up until Sim Update 3 and its stutterfest, and now I have my dream rig sitting idle while I wait for the performance to be fixed. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
March 19, 20215 yr MSFS is partly bound by COU and partly bound by GPU. To what extent depends on the balance of your system and your settings. I can well believe a 3080 will give you double the FPS of a 1080. I built a new system last year with MSFS in mind (at 1080 rez) and had mediicre performance on high settings with a 2700 AMD CPU and an RTX 3070 GPU. Changing out the 2700 for a 5600x CPU doubled my FPS and I now fly at 50-60 FPS most of the time on ultra settings with the sliders all turned up If you stick a 3000 series into a system with an old CPU, you may be disappointed, but balance the two and you really see a difference. My system now seems perfectly balanced, though I would be reluctant to run at 4k with it and at UK £360 for the CPU and UK £460 for the GPU didn't break the bank either. Of course, we have to wait until MS fix the World Downgrade 3 Update before we can put that grunt to good use. March 19, 20215 yr A 6900XT will almost have same performance (not in VR tough) and is at least sometimes available (was lucky enough to get one for MSRP 2 weeks ago). March 19, 20215 yr Going from an RTX 2060 to a RTX 3070 took my frame rate when GPU bound from 30-35 FPS up to more like 45-50 FPS on my normal settings. So going from a 1080 to a 3080 those numbers quoted look reasonable. I am also GPU bound far less often. Naturally in parts of the sim where I am CPU bound it made no difference whatsoever (or potentially made it worse) but that is totally beside the point. Edited March 19, 20215 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick
March 19, 20215 yr I do find it amusing/irritating that nVidia advertises their 30 series cards given that most of us can’t actually find one. It’s like all the PS5 ads I keep seeing.
