FPS increase coming?

Featured Replies

60 fps and 1920x1080 (2K). My system isn't going to run a 1440 or 4K decently.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

We had the same discussions back during the Alpha and Beta when a few leaks popped up about a month before release or so. I think people are blowing this way out of proportion.

MS & Asobo are taking a calculated risk with these NDA testing programs. They're not stupid, and they'll be aware that some testers might risk leaking things (and also risk their own access to the testing program by doing so).

When the big leaks happened a year ago before release, all it did was provide free advertising for the sim, and it's the same right now. Asobo claimed some big performance improvements from the patch later this month, and people were doubting how big these improvements would really be in real-life use cases. Now @devgrp has apparently confirmed that he's seeing the same performance increases on his own version, once again providing free marketing for Asobo.

Does anyone seriously think MS will send their legal hit squads out because someone confirmed Asobo marketing material during his own testing and told others about it? People should really calm down a bit.

From the testing I've been doing, I can confidently say performance is not only great, but it is consistent. Everyone will be in for a treat.

That is great, but has any visuals or LOD's been downgraded to achieve this performance gain?

On the contrary they said trees will go to the horizon you won't see any pop ins

Thanks, but if "They" are Asobo, I don't trust what they say.  I would rather hear it from one of "Us".

Can someone please explain how the Render Scaling actually works? I was under the impression that 100% would equate to the actual resolution you were running the game/sim at. Anything below reduced the resolution and anything above increased it. Is this not correct? I know that video, he was set on RS of 40 which I would have thought would be terrible for viewing though his video looked rather well. I run my sim at 1440 and RS 100 and it runs and looks pretty well. I have a 4K monitor but when doing UHD it stumbles A LOT. I have been so confused about this Render Scale not only for this but it's in most games now days. Nothing really explains it.

🥺

I think they used a reduced render scale to basically emulate an upscaling to 4K from a lesser resolution because the graphic card they used couldn’t possibly be expected to realistically run above 30 fps at 4K native. This allowed them to run the sim at 60 fps with the update’s performance improvements.

Like any new patches. you have to lower your expectations. I know everyone is hyped about gaining more FPS but your experience may vary.

You've basically got it right. Generally you want to run the resolution that is native to your screen and then adjust your render scale to get the performance that your system can support. Remember that running 4k at 50% render resolution should provide the same visuals as running 1440p at 100%. If you have a 4k screen I would suggest giving that a try, as generally the native resolution will look better. Of course YMMV based on your screen and card.

How it works is basically just a question of upscaling. The game is rendered at 2k and upscaled by your GPU to 4k if running in 4k at 50%

Thank you very much Chris, I have been so confused about this for some time.. I will revert to native and drop that slider to 50 and see how it reacts.

Small correction: 4k at RS 50 is 1080p, not 1440p. 50 does not mean 50% of pixel count, it means 50% of vertical and horizontal pixels: 2160x50/100=1080.

1440p is 4k at RS of 70.

You can see the number of rendered pixels in the development mode fps counter.

I for one (besides all the negative comments) believe Asobo will deliver. I welcome the extra headroom, that alone will save my wallet from having to spend $$$ on a new rig.

Bring it Asobo!!!
