I wonder how what the relative improvement is on a good system at 4K…like 10900, 3090, etc.

AMD 7950x3d, MSI 4090 Supreme Liquid, 64GB@6000 CL30, MSI X670E ACE, 4TB Crucial T700 nvme, MSI AIO, Asus 43" HDR1000, Quest Pro, VKB gunfighter, Bravo throttle, TPR, IBM Model M keyboard, Shure SM58

With my new PC coming today I have decided to turn my old PC into a dedicated racing setup. I have a 26" 1920 x 1200 monitor so i set it up yesterday to see how things worked. When you go from 2560 x 1440 to 1920 x 1200 that is a whole lot less pixels to push (3.6m to 2.3m). My old system runs all my racing sims over 100 fps on ultra, and in MSFS i am getting a solid 30 fps locked with everything on high or Ultra, with 100% traffic. I think the new rig will be able to handle MSFS on high/ultra at 1440p but 4k isn't happening (8m+ pixels). And honestly, seeing the sim at 1920x1200 was not bad at all. Even without gsync I see no stutters. So 1440p is the sweet spot for MSFS unless you have a 3090.

But we'll see what the 27th brings!

This will be great. Something I believe Asobo will do from time-time (clean code up). I'm running with an i-7 3770K, RTX 2070 OC, 32DB DDR3 G-Skill Trident X (7-8-8-24) and (4) 1TB SSD drives. So we'll see what kind of improvement this brings to an older gen machine. On high settings with a few at med I range ~35fps+

I wonder if GPU limited users (Before SU5) may benefit from these optimizations as well ? (Struggling with RTX 3070 @t 4K with %100 render as expected)

During Q&A and afterwards with the clues we have I think that it will be all about CPU and if you're not limited by CPU you shouldn't expect anything significant for yourself ? Am I wrong ?

I'am no expert on systems so I need your ideas on that. I have AMD 5600X and from the day I purchased I have ever never got a limited by mainthread warning with even 4k down to 1080p.

So I want to know if there is any possibility beyond my knowledge that can save me buying from 3090. Any tester thoughts about this subject ? Are there any noticable gpu perf. improvements ?

Kind regards.

Yes, there will be some improvement for GPU's (VRAM usage is definitely down for a start), but how much in terms of performance (fps), we will have to wait and see.
But if there is a drop in VRAM, it should mean less complexity of graphics to render, although it doesn't always follow through like that.

Have you tried 4k at 80%?  I run 4k at 70% on my native 4k screen and it looks decent, so 80 or 90% should be good (use TAA and make sure sharpening is on in the user config file).

Just taking it down a notch will significantly improve performance in terms of FPS.  I cannot run at 4k 100% at all (a slideshow), but 4k 70, or even 80% when not over cities is fine and a solid and smooth 30 fps.

Hopefully we can all go up by 10% scaling after the update, but I wouldn't expect any more than that.  I would like to set mine at 80% and leave it for every situation.  I would be happy with that.

I think everyone is going to see some upgrade in performance. I my case it will probably be on approach to large airports or dense cities since thats where cpu limits come in. Apart from that the performance update should be negligible.

I've always had a modest PC (specs below) and always been moderately happy with various flight sims performance, FSX, P3D etc. Maybe I've been lucky or maybe I'm not quite as particular as some.
I'm currently getting a good 30 FPS in most places apart from the PG cities, settings are not all on ultra and I don't need 4k display cos being on the wrong side of 60, my eyesight cant tell the difference.

I'm hoping they tidy up the code sufficiently to eliminate some of the stutters. I'm currently mostly smooth enough, it's just an occasional thing but it really is annoying when it does happen.........A smoother ride please.

That's funny, I have the exact same setup as you now (thank you for everyone who replied to my upgrade thread two weeks ago, I was finally able to get a new PC). I would have loved a 3080 or 3090, but sometimes, you can't get everything you want.

Anyways, my performances are absolutely awesome in the sim now, I'm running at high 4K @30 FPS with scaling set to 70%. and I am perfectly fine with these performances, I can maintain a steady 30 FPS even flying jets over Manhattan (please don't over analyze this last sentence, it's just for testing performances). My CPU never reaches above 40%.

I'm now scared that this next update will cap my GPU even more and I will lose performance, if it really does move load from the CPU to GPU, I'll have to downscale even more. However, maybe reducing other settings will actually have an impact on GPU and I might be able to get by this way. Or even better, there will be GPU optimizations as well.

I wouldn't worry about capping CPU or GPU or with next update.

Gaming Laptop:
MSI GS75 Stealth 5.6GHz Intel Core i9 - 10th gen 16 core CPU  -  32 GB DDR4 SDRAM  - 1TB SSD - RTX 2080 Super - 1920x1080 - 3 fans and cooling pipes.

I really don´t need more FPS, I need smoothness.. can´t wait to fire it up again after weeks in P3D, really hope for some improvements 😞

Please lower your expectation. Your experience may vary. Way too much hype about this upcoming performance build.

I think people need to temper their expectations. This is being built up so much and it could lead to a huge letdown (and of course screaming). I expect some improvement. But I am going to wait and see how much. Also, what if any issues does this new build bring?

I think you're right about this. CPU limitations are usually in urban / complex scenery. So that's where we will see the most improvement. Which is great.

Another good thing is the lower VRAM usage, most people have a 6-8 GB GPU and that should be plenty after this update for the foreseeable future imho.

After hearing so much aboot this I'm getting pretty stoked about a 224% improvement in FPS plus also I heard it will let you run in 4K even on a 1080p monitor with reduced cholesterol levels too!
