September 20, 20214 yr I wouldn’t mind being able to be a passenger on someone else’s flight. No a co-pilot but rather sitting in the passenger area and taking in the emersion of being on a flight. Safer than flying in real life today. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
September 20, 20214 yr This topic is really timely for me as I just thought about this yesterday. Normally I don't spend any time inside airports. However I have to day that I was really impressed with a small custom airport done for Molokai Airport HI (PHMK payware). This was extremely well made and I found myself going back to more than a few times during my Island flight adventures. It just made getting out of the plane and strolling around really enjoyable, with the great MS sound set - I swear you could almost feel the tropical breeze. The recently released Kahului from Northern Sky Studio is very nice in that respect also.
September 21, 20214 yr I wont mind walking around inside airports to be honest and if they have sound even better. Hey we all like different things so why stop a developers from going wild… One thing I really wish we could do is lets say i own a plane that someone else online already owns let’s say a pmdg 777 wish we could walk to the gate where the last pilot left at and pick up from there in the state the plane was . Adds realism .. Edited September 21, 20214 yr by rtodepart Image removed as image is no longer available.
September 21, 20214 yr For me personally - details like tools and dismantled aircraft in the open hangers, animated people in outdoor areas and fully detailed terminals are a huge plus when deciding to buy. One of the reasons I decided to pay for NZNS Nelson, and base my new pre-1960s Neofly career there, is the incredible terminal detail right down to the vintage sports car on display in the terminal foyer. As far as walking around goes I just assigned the drone to an old unused joystick for main movement and up/down and pan on the hat. Edited September 21, 20214 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick
September 21, 20214 yr Been to too many terminals in RL , right now I save my money for all the new AC coming out for MSFS .
September 21, 20214 yr The only benefit to me would be with inside at GA airports with local character dining on the premises for $100 hamburger/pancake destinations. That would be great! But inside Washington Regan (KDCA)? No thanks. And especially not for any of the "rat race" commercial hub airports. I don't enjoy them in the least in real life. Why then would I visit in the sim? Now if there were an animated gentlemen's club with no tattoos ???? Would be a crash to desktop for sure! September 21, 20214 yr All I would request from devs is that if its not too much hassle is to provide 2 versions of an addon airport. The full-on version where you can roam a maxed out interior and a "lite" version that only shows the exterior. For those people on weaker systems it will help a little I would imagine.
September 21, 20214 yr Author So just today I noticed this airport on flightsim.to... Klagenfurt, LOWK. It's a great airport and beautifully done, with an amazing rendition of the interior of the control tower with coffee pots and realistic screens on the computers. Really well done, but I'll never see it again except in screen shots. I admire the author's skill and as it's free I can see it was a labor of love. I'm not sure how to post the exact pic, but it is well done. This is the link. Edited September 21, 20214 yr by mikegrr
September 21, 20214 yr Interiors are super important for many reasons I don't want to come and land taxi to a flat texture after so many hours I like to look around they are there in real life I will not buy in airport in 2021 without decent interiors. it kills it for me and scenery developers are artists too so they enjoy putting small details like that. September 21, 20214 yr Yep, I believe that airport scenery has come to a whole new level with MSFS. The possibilities are endless. Driveable cars, sailable boats and ships, walking around exploring airport interiors. This is truly becoming a sim within a sim. I hope developers will get creative and think outside the box for MSFS. There are a lot of amazing addons that could be made. September 21, 20214 yr IMO it all comes down to immersion and what you are looking for from the sim. If you are just looking to get up in the air and enjoy your flight, then they are of no value. If you are wanting to see the whole world simulated virtually and are interested in the full end to end experience then you will appreciate the interiors. Plus if they are close to reality, it is great when you actually visit the real airport and feel like you already know it - just from a game!
