I'm currently using DX11 because DX12 reduces FPS on my system.

couldn't have said it any better or shorter 😊

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

It's the opposite in my experience with the Ryzen 5600x 32 GB RAM, and an RTX 3060 Ti 8GB, on Windows 11.

Running MFS in DX12 mode offers not oly better / more stable FPS but also no stutters.

I don't understand why your surprised. I remember your post complaining about the DX 12 implementation when it was released. The whole point was that it was supposed to be a very unpolished raw first implementation that wasn't fit for mass adoption.. You complained anyway. Oh well .. people tried it and now realized what the developers were saying all along.

Personally i haven't even got around to testing it yet. 95% of my sim time is in the FBW A320N and the expectations are low that it will give me any tangible benefit at the moment.

They just essentially converted the code to fit the dx12 package. No optimizations worth noting have been worked on as yet. I'm fine with giving the developers time to optimize the code in due course.

I would love to use dx12 but I cannot use the popout function of the Aerosoft CRJ FMS to use it on my external monitor because the game crashes when I use that function. Aersoft won’t so anything until dx12 is in beta, so yeah need to stick to dx11. DX12 is so much better on my system (around 5-10 fps more)

DX11 and the sim appears to be rock solid for me at this time. DX12 is in beta at the moment so I see no need to enable it.

DX11. I fear my 1650 has not enough VRAM for DX12. At least it couldn't survive P3D v5.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

When P3D went to DX12, I was running a 1060 with 4 Gigs of Vram. I could run it with medium settings and A2A GA's were pulling 3.5 Vram at that point.

Now I've got a 3060 with 12 gigs Vram and MSFS with all high and 4 or 5 settings on Ultra, I'm pulling about 5 something gigs.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

Don't forget that P3D didn't check the exceeding of the amount of VRAM (Does it that now?). This is required when using DX12. DX11 does that by it self. I do hope MS/Asobo will do memory management when switching to DX12 by default.

Whilst researching DX12 issues, I found the following which may be of interest.  If anyone has any other tips, please let us know:

• If you’re running Nvidia Low-Latency Mode in NVCP, it will not work with DX12 and should be disabled (the sim takes full control of the render queue)

• If “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations” was enabled in the properties of flightsimulator.exe, this should be one of the toggles to check if issues arise in DX12 (things like CTD or crashes when alt+tabbing)

• Stuttering in DX12 can sometimes be caused by Control Flow Guard (CFG) in Windows Exploit Protection (seen in other DX12 titles - Control, Division 2, etc.); flightsimulator.exe can be added with a program setting in Exploit Protection with CFG toggled off

VRAM management is one of those things I've been curious about and testing - looks like MS / Asobo have been careful in that department (understandable as they have to work within console requirements as well). Some comparison shots showing VRAM usage in the same test scenario:

DX12

Overall FPS is lower in DX12, but you can see the load being transferred over to the GPU which bodes well for future optimizations.

DX11 since DX12 is for, as you know, beta testing.

I will wait for the dx12 fixer 😁
