SU9 is all but the death nail for VR

Featured Replies

It's clear the focus of Asobo is on 2D versus VR and that's never been more obvious than this latest update.  VR is all but 800x600 quality now, looking very pixelated.  Every time you open the ATC window it's minimized to a point you have to manually expand it to see your options.  I don't know who beta tested this but with each SU it get's worse and worse.  It's so hard to go back to 2D after VR because the feel of the cockpits is so different.  The last update wasn't right with anything outside of GA, forget IFR.  VR using IFR flights in plane like the Longitude had many areas that was otherwise smooth in 2D had stutters around airports and detailed scenery.  It wasn't to the point visual like it is now where the pixelation is horrendous.  It was fun while it lasted but it's back to 2D for me which looks amazing by the way.  It's hard looking at the tiny screen after VR but Asobo has put a final death nail in it for me.  At least their knocking it out the ball park with 2D (tonight seeing distance anomalies at the NASA cape in Florida until you get closer, I'm sure there's other areas).  I guess we have another year before VR becomes a priority, today it's 2D for the XBOX (plus the masses I guess use monitors).😌

All of us who invested $600 for a Reverb headset are screwed if this keeps up.  VR is useless in FS2020 at this point.  Someone on the official forums suggested some tweaking option.  I've been done with tweaking a sim since the days of FSX especially when all was usable yesterday before the update... 🙁

I thought there was a toolkit like Open VR or something to make things nicer?

Play DCS! Youll get your monies worth there. Besides, my friend and I need someone to play with lol.

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

Looks like Asobo is still having a hard time in finding the saboteur inside their developing group 😆

Everything is running as smooth as SU8 for me in SU9 in VR, must be VR HMD specific issues.

No complaints here...clouds and lighting look slightly better also.

Yep, this update really did seriously bork the ATC comms window in VR.  The real test here is if Asobo will let this goof-up ride for at least a whole month...if so we'll really know where they stand on supporting VR.  Since the try something different door was opened, I'll throw in a shameless pitch for the WWI combat flight sim Flying Circus (which is on sale for a really good price right now).  Think you can really fly planes well?  Try flying a realistically modeled Fokker Dr.1 or Sopwith Camel with their wicked engine precession torque.  The Flying Circus VR flying experience is equally as wicked, though in a good way.  Plus VR makes the gunnery in these kites something to behold.

Good hope they take this time to focus on multi monitors so they take care of the cockpit builders.. VR is low priority.

And that's a good thing. VR is a niche part of the sim.

Hope it's not too infuriating to introduce a point of order; the expression is 'death knell', a 'knell' being the ringing of a (usually church) bell.

I don‘t use VR, but concentrating on 2D does not mean they have to make the game unplayable for 10% (number made up).

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
