Yes the hilarity of the hype train on Avsim is very fun to read!!!!

This product releasing today is being made out to be the release of a lifetime for MSFS2020.

very funny when most don't grasp the concept that MSFS202 is designed for entertainment. It and the PMDG737 certainly don't convey anything "study level" in my world! A level D simulator would qualify and that's about it.

I don't know - I think a few portions of the FMS and other systems would carry over to real world.  For example, on the GTN 750xi I'm using with all the latest GA here in the sim, I can do the same functions on a plane wit a real 750/650.  The G1000 NXi from WT - at least from a navigation standpoint is very similar.

It's hard to enjoy airliners with 50% inop buttons and/or systems not modelled.

For those who have it now, or for those who buy it when it comes, can you quickly check the aircraft.cfg and check what the 'icao_type_designator=' line says?

It's important for model matching in regular MSFS Multiplayer, and for MSFS live traffic.

I find views like yours on 'study' level products to be just as hilarious.  The use of 'study level' is to convey the product is more sophisticated, and has many more systems/failures simulated, than the average MSFS aircraft addon.  The term is not used by simmers to insinuate the addon aircraft, or the sim itself, is better than any training tool used by real training schools.

Within MSFS, one can buy plenty of aircraft that don't need to be studied at all, just throttle up and go.  Alternatively, one can use a product like the PMDG 737, which will need to be studied, before it can be operated correctly.  Combine this aircraft with an online ATC system like PilotEdge, the excellent weather system and navigation data that is up to date with the real world and use a real world EFB like Garmin Pilot or Foreflight, the user is going to need to study a great deal.

You are correct that MSFS in an entertainment product, but it is also far more than that for the user that wants to go to the next level of realism. Will MSFS get you a job flying the Boeing 737? No, it won't, but it will give the committed simmer the experience a real pilot will have in their job.  there are a few things missing of course - the bus ride to the aircraft and the hotel stays, but just about everything else can be simulated.

The term 'study' is not reserved for the sole use of real world training companies.  I think you need to get off your high horse about a simple term to convey sophistication withing a home flight sim.
