September 29, 20223 yr Hi All, Was after peoples thoughts on purchasing stuff from Marketplace Icon? I've just downloaded some free stuff which where to world updates, but wasn't sure on Airports and wondered what people thought? Thanks Jason Jason Thompson
September 29, 20223 yr Sure you can.. unless you can get it directly from the developer.. in which case you are going to get updates faster. Edited September 29, 20223 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
September 29, 20223 yr Author Bert, So it had its fors & against by the sounds of it? I've seen some scenery I have from Simmarket is on offer there that was what made me ask. I'll have a look at it but appreciate your help Jason Jason Thompson
September 29, 20223 yr The ease of the marketplace has caused me to be pulled in and buy a lot of scenery from there. I couldn't care about the long wait for updates as long as the scenery works as it should. I do have a lot more scenery from Orbx though as sales are frequent there too.
September 29, 20223 yr I bought ORD and DEN early on when sim came out as I was excited about the concept. Now I wish I never did. Jacek G. Ryzen 5800X3D | Asus RTX4090 OC | 64gb DDR4 3600 | Asus ROG Strix X570E | HX1000w | Fractal Design Torrent RGB | AOC AGON 49' Curved QHD |
September 29, 20223 yr I avoid Airports from the Marketplace as much as possible. The scenery files are encrypted so you can't edit ade's to get proper parking. But the same sceneries from outside of the Marketplace aren't encrypted. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024

The delays to updates and the large percentage of revenue MS takes from developers are enough reason for me to never use it.
September 29, 20223 yr I buy all my sceneries from the market place. I like the idea of having everything in a single place in case I ever need to reinstall MSFS. Also I hate to fiddle around with custom installers or the file system, the in game market place makes it all a breeze. Also, I think it's a big plus that MS gets its cut from these sales. It's more likely that they keep developing the game forward when they see the money flowing in. Edited September 29, 20223 yr by Kopteeni
September 29, 20223 yr For scenery it's fine. But I still buy direct from dev when possible. For aircraft I avoid it because you can't edit flight models and xml files. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 29, 20223 yr Consider that you also cannot remove static aircraft. I have bought EKCH recently and the static aircraft are soo annoying. I don't know who had the idea to place a B747 by Lufthansa at Copenhagen. Anyway, for online flying this is bad!!
September 29, 20223 yr Marketplace: Everything downloaded from a single area. Direct from Devs or their preferred outlet: Faster updates, probably better support, often cheaper, and sale prices often cheaper than Marketplace sales. Dev gets more profit with MS not taking a cut. No contest for me. September 29, 20223 yr I only buy sceneries from the Marketplace, but that's because of the exchange rate differences. And since I use the Steam version, there's no encryption to worry about. September 30, 20223 yr I actively avoid the marketplace due to the limitations already listed. I would like Microsoft to get a cut of my money to keep them interested in the sim. September 30, 20223 yr Not buying on the marketplace means possibly large amounts of updaters and updates you have to track by yourself. Check website, download update, rinse, repeat. Launch updater, check for update, rinse, repeat. With MP you start the sim and click update and you're done. Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉
