Bijan vs Accuseason

Featured Replies

When I looked into both a couple of months back, one of the big detractors from Rex was that in winter it was not masking roads so everything was snow covered… even major highways which is not only unrealistic, but makes VFR unnecessarily difficult. Bijan’s product handled this properly. Has Rex addressed this?

They are about to, terrain coloring is in beta.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

How does Accu-Season handle areas that do not see autumn/winter trees?  Wondering what happens for example in Florida during these seasons....thanks!

They have a special release you can download for this area. This was the first set of questions i had when Rex was released initially. They promptly took the advice of the community went back to their dev team and came up with a specialized Florida area update.

The fact that they did this was the primary reason i purchased this addon. I think their customer engagement is top tier.

Hi Flic. As Maxis mentions, this was an enhancement we put out quite some time ago and it covers not only Florida, but much of the coastal area in the United States Gulf Coast. Here are some images to illustrate how things look during autumn and winter.

I have now bought Rex via JF (I was using Bijan until now, although I usually deactivated it in Africa, as it did a suboptimal job there imo. I always found it only really works well in the usual popular flying areas like USA and Europe.

I hope Rex Accuseason is working better in Malawi !

If it doesn't, Rex guys will surely hear from me (like a lot .g.)

Hi Bob. Wanted to say that the reason we and our customers value an automated and non-manual method of switching seasons is because AccuSeason provides weekly seasonal changes, so if our process were manual, customers would be required to manually update their files in Windows Explorer 52 times per year. This would result in many errors and much frustration for the user community. Below are two videos that show what weekly changes looks like.

I have a question about this...so, where I live the trees do not change until mid-October.   Whereas a northern place would have total color change right now.   Is MSFS capable of reflecting these locational differences, or must it require a manual fix as done with Florida?

With the FSX SDK we could specify a mask, literally painting colors and compiling that .bgl, to specify regions that had colors vs. those areas that didn't, by month I think.  I know you have knowledge of what I speak as you were around then, too.  It's been 15+ years since I prepped any seasons.bgl's though, so my memory is hazy.   I just wonder how granular MSFS SDK is in that regard.

I've only tried the neutral. But I'm using small size and irregular canopy. And I'm modding the tree size further to about 1/3 of default.

Thanks - I was able to get a better and larger look on the Rex Accuseason home page of their quick display of the differences...going to try warm first but can always go back (neutral seemed a bit washed out a first glance).

REX is a solid company. Reliable customer service. Regular updates. Active and lively presence on Discord.

There is no good reason to rely on a single-dude operation, who may or may not be around to actually update and further develop the program.

I bought Bijans as I was fed up with waiting for MS/Asobo to bring seasons in, now that they're getting close(r) to releasing then I don't feel the need to purchase another. Unfortunately I suffered a massive FPS hit with Bijans mod during SU10 Beta and have not touched it since, should he come back from his troubles and update that'd be great, but life comes first so I hold no angst against him and just wish him the best. I'd long already got my monies worth out of his mod.

@Rex guys :

Should I deactivate this mod now that I run rex Accuseasons ?

No keep it! I do, and I've changed the values to make the trees even shorter. The sim looks so much more realistic with this in place. No more jungle cities!

Actually, I'm tempted to do a screenshot comparison with/without the mod in place. Using AccuSeason of course 🙂

I’ve had accu-season since it came out and it is one of my favourite MSFS add-ones to date. Had a friend over last night for a VR session and he noticed my vegetation right away and commented about how good it looks. Just going by this thread alone you can tell the REX team cares about its customers and it’s products. Just install it and forget it, it does everything it needs to do, it just works.

Thank you !

So you changed the trees in Rex to 75% or did you edit the files of the mod that I linked ?

I edited the file in the Official folder, dividing all tree size values by 3. I'll post some more in the other AccuSeason thread. Just have to land in Kelowna, 165nm @ 179kts to go.
