Thought I was being clever at launch by buying the box set to save on downloading the original 150 GB for hours and hours...
Eventually, I chose to be counted twice in this 10m figure by buying again on Steam—an excellent decision.

That's a great point. I'm not implying that anyone has done anything to scare them away. I'm also not suggesting that the presence on xbox is not inspiring future pilots. Not at all.

I'm suggesting that these stats are garbage hype-marketing. They don't represent the real status. The vast vast majority of your beloved millions-strong community don't give a hoot that we exist.

I also wonder how many of those 10 million 'users' (minus potential bots) still have it installed or even use it with any regularity (also assuming these are counted as complete installs, not borked half way through and forgotten, but still counted).

140+ gig is a tall ask for any xbox. The vast majority of them are thoughtlessly clicking through: not really paying attention and certainly not curious enough to take the thought necessary to fork out the actual market price.

XBOX Game pass you do not need to install MSFS instant play on the MS servers, just fire up MSFS on game pass and your one of the 10 million. Game pass has over 30 million users now and growing, MS have just secured C.O.D after a battle with SONY.

There is no such thing “you don’t need to install”, you still need do, it will just limit you to start MSFS in case your subscription is over

No way they have anywhere close to 10 million active users but there are probably enough there to keep them investing into the sim for at least several more years. IMOO

What if every Windows user had an MSFS account?   That would be something.

Still MSFS is not going anywhere except up.

I’m absolutely stoked for 2023. MSFS is really hitting its stride and I can’t wait to see what the next updates bring. The AAU update is just a small taste!

This is for comparison...League of Legends has a total of 150 million registered players. Over 117 Million players are actively playing monthly.

Which ever way you look at the glass - this is has brought the accessability and the wonder of flying to the mainstream and so  the benefits for all digital pilots is beyond doubt.

Sure we can get lots of data points and quibble over what numbers are truly meaningful, but hopefully we can all agree that the hobby as a whole has grown greatly because of MSFS.

I'm a relative newcomer to flightsims (started with FS9), but I'm chuffed to bits at how things have developed. Having the time of my life!

To be fair, games like League of Legends and Fortnite (400 million registered and roughly 3 to 4 million playing at any given time) are free to play .

I wonder how many of those 10 million "users" would have bothered with any of the other civil flight sims out there...

MSFS has been downplayed from a VFR 'sim' to a 'game' targeted for x-box players....so now I guess the new strategy is to downplay the 10 million 'user' milestone (you know..."bots"...and "incomplete installs").

Let’s be glad there are not 10,000,000 active users online. You think their servers are bad now with all the “you are being kicked offline” messages. Imagine the chaos.

Clearly tho, this sim is working out or Asobo & Microsoft. We would not be seeing the ongoing and fairly powerful/rapid development that is continuing two years after release otherwise, including the 40th anniversary release and this new AAU update. As long as they can justify ongoing development work, that is all that matters.
