PMDG 777 and its delay

I find this idiotic if that truly is the case. They'll just be spiting themselves. What's the point in having a sim or being part of the community then? To fly other planes, you say. Then why be so vocal in a thread about a plane they'll never buy?

It’s already been said they will get it by other means.

For goodness sakes will people just leave PMDG alone and let them do what they are good at (developing simulation planes) and just focus on your life and/or other planes Jeez. Let them finish the prod

I thought the leaked manual said they would be using the Asobo Weather Radar in the 777?

They will. It will probably be back ported to the 737 eventually. It will not be an accurate indicator of “weather to avoid” (just as it is not in default aircraft), and unlike the existing EGPWS system in the 737 will not be accurate to how the real system works. But there is so much customer demand for it that PMDG finally gave up and decided to include it.

Oh I know, it only shows precipitation, nothing else.

IIRC at launch it showed every cloud but a later sim update changed it.

Along with other things of course (like variable gain, tilt, etc). It does show a fixed vertical angled view in front of the plane so that precip further below you will not show up the closer it gets to your aircraft, so can be a little useful there, but not nearly as helpful as a fully developed one. Of course as maxis stated, since severe weather like thunderstorms don't really have much affect on the plane as is, weather radar is still not extremely useful right now.

Apparently if you spoof the 777 folder in your community folder you can see and download liveries from the PMDG control centre or whatever it’s called

I’m surprised the program doesn’t have better security then that

It has become suspiciously silent around the 777. Not one single presentation video on YouTube for months now (even it was "weeks from release" some time around February or March), no new sets of screenshots, no teasers or presentation at all. Just rumors about SU15 and their PMDG launcher, and no other infos available week after week.

Too bad I was hoping for some awesome 777 presentation video for weeks 😺

It sounds like they hit some snags and probably have their heads down buried in the work trying to sort some issue or issues out. I am pretty confident PMDG wants to release this as much as we want to have it. The only other likely explanation would would be other life circumstances getting in the way, other work, sickness, etc., and I certainly hope it is not that.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

I'm pretty sure it's their new/ARINC 424 navdata encoding that takes time to implement, test and fix.

I'm considering passing and it's 50% the carrot stringing the 777 has been and the lack of  the 777F at release.......and the other half is because Mathijs is an unbearable condescending waste of 02 and the way he talked to paying customers at Aerosoft was the reason I stopped spending money on anything with the Aerosoft name on it. It was incredibly disappointing to see him ousted from Aerosoft just to be absorbed into PMDG.

I hear nice things about Fenix though, so maybe I'm an Airbus kid now.

I was going to get it now I'm probably not. In direct reference to your post I had a straw and camels back moment last night. I innocently joined a thread calling for the long superior (imo) pmdg mouse method of using left and right clicks for up and down results on switches. I've used this method for 10 years on all their FSX planes and happily moved xml files over with my 737 600/900/900ER birds in MSFS. Then SU15 happened and wiped them so I happily moved the files again and am loving that 736 especially. My rapidly deteriorating old eyes cannot see tiny arrows on screen, so some ac I cant use well. Just Flight F28 love it! Gave up on some of the buttons though as I just can NOT click the right direction. A right click one way and left the other would be great.

Well back to the point. After making my polite point and request I saw 3 others had said yes us too please and our 'buddy' had replied to me. I said it was a 'purchase requirement' and reply was sad to see I'm sure I'll find other planes on the market using that method. Somewhat sarcastic so I went to reply saying well yes actually I still don't own the 737 and 738 so I will be buying those soon for sure. Except....after 3 people had chimed in saying US TOO the the thread was suddenly closed after another spokesperson said it was the Asobe way or the highway gents. Thread closed.

I just can't deal with that level of 'customer service'.

I am also VERY glad I found that thread because if I'd paid for the 777 and seen those tiny up and down arrows everywhere I would have been gutted. Really is a deal breaker for me. The word was that it MAY be possible to fix this after purchase but if it's unofficial and 'warranty breaking' I'm steering clear.

For me PMDG is going from 'uncompromisingly the best' to 'unrepentantly the most compliant'.

Certainly a better way than the default ASOBO method, personally much prefer it. Hopefully they will add it back in, actually surprised they can't have it as an EFB option rather than copying files.

I'm pretty sure from the threads there (PMDG) that Asobe do not want them doing it officially as it does not 'conform'. Hence the devs kindly and subtly making it a user tweak not built in. With all the attention the 777 is and will be getting I think the PMDG policy makers want full Asobe method compliance.

I would so hope to be completely wrong about this. That thread was shut down FAST though.

I saw your post and was also disappointed to see the thread locked. It seemed like just a couple weeks ago Mathjis was saying for various reasons this wasn't possible, but then to imply that he would have to ask. Seems very confusing. Regardless, I think several of us are curious who they "surveyed" to determine it wasn't a popular feature. I suspect it was a very controlled audience that made this determination. This won't stop me from buying the T7, but I was really surprised to see the thread locked when it seemed like such a positive topic with several people (myself included) in agreement with you.

PMDG had horrible public relations with RSR saying things in the forum and then later on saying that’s not what I said and you all interpreted it wrong or yelling at people in the forum or going radio silent after missing his own quoted timeline by months or years and then blaming his customers for being angry about it. Granted you need a whole team to interpret his word salad drivel. So I guess they realize RSR will never remove the shoe from his mouth so they hire Mathjis to do the customer service work. It’s almost as if they said, “you think RSR is bad, we’ll show you!”

I thought this was about the 777? Why does every PMDG thread turn into a bash fest?

Regardless...I can still wait for its release.
