August 27, 20241 yr Annoyingly, I can't get to windows insider due to group policies on my version of W11 Enterprise Edition. I've googled for ways around it and tried a few recommended solutions in the group policy manager to no avail. Guess I am going to have to wait for the official version 😡 Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
August 27, 20241 yr I found a very slight lag in file explorer in win11, and especially with the context menu, infuriating when working with lots of files as I do every day barely noticeable if you aren't always using file explorer the new context menu seems to be pointlessly different, after so many years of knowing where "rename" and "delete" were instinctively, why move them to icons?!
August 27, 20241 yr The only issue I have with Win11 is that they changed the right-click menu (when clicking on a file or folder). I’ve worked around that by making a registry change. Hmm, I’m tempted to join Insider to test this update. So far in this thread I’ve not seen anyone that have actually tried it. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

You can create the Win 11 install USB as normal using the "media creation tool" on the Microsoft website. Then create a file called "autounattend.xml" and simply copy that to the USB. This website makes it easy to create the xml file:- https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/ More info here:- https://youtu.be/VapEEf4k7Eo?si=Vy0F0x_RazyVGlmi I am planning on doing this myself, I will just integrate latest drivers for the components as well. Been on Win11 for quite a while now but the first thing I did after installing it was to install program called StartAllBack. Has a ton of features. Among them, the restoration of the "classic" context menu to Explorer. Costs $5 and worth every penny IMO. August 27, 20241 yr Allright, so I decided to take the leap and joined the Windows Insider program. I've done a before/after performance comparison using CapFrameX. Hardware: see signature. In terms of frame time consistency, the difference is almost negligible. Some useful info re: 24H2: How to update: https://www.easeus.com/backup-recovery/how-to-upgrade-to-windows-11-24h2.html TechPowerUp article 11 hrs ago: https://www.techpowerup.com/325967/amd-ryzen-9000-series-zen-5-tested-on-windows-11-24h2-update-shows-significant-performance-gains Quote AMD's Ryzen processors have received a significant performance upgrade, thanks to the recent Windows 11 24H2 update. This development addresses initial disappointments with the Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" series performance, particularly in gaming applications. The update, which improves branch prediction capabilities, has resulted in substantial gains for both the Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" and Ryzen 7000 "Zen 4" CPU lineups. According to tests by Hardware Unboxed, Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" CPUs have shown double-digit performance increases across multiple game titles, a boost typically seen only between generational upgrades. Interestingly, contrary to AMD's initial claims, the performance gains are not limited to the Zen 5 architecture. The Ryzen 7000 "Zen 4" processors have also benefited from the update, with minimal performance differences observed between comparable Zen 5 and Zen 4 models after the update. This development marks a crucial turning point for AMD, addressing earlier criticisms and narrowing the gap between reported and expected performance figures. As users install the Windows 11 24H2 update, they can expect enhanced gaming experiences across a wide range of titles, highlighting the complex interplay between hardware capabilities and software optimization in modern computing. Below are the results from Hardware Unboxed benchmarks. Edited August 27, 20241 yr by Cpt_Piett 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

August 27, 20241 yr There's a Windows update available now (KB5041587). It's supposed to have the "branch prediction optimization" that's going to be in 24H2. https://wccftech.com/amd-branch-prediction-optimization-ryzen-9000-7000-cpus-available-windows-11-23h2/
August 27, 20241 yr "AMD has confirmed that it's bringing the same branch prediction optimizations to Windows 11 23H2 via backporting. The new update will be listed under the Windows Update menu in the "Optional Updates" section as "KB5041587" which makes things a lot easier for those who haven't updated or opted into the 24H2 preview." Indeed. I'll stand down for now and let the Win10/11 discussion continue. I have more improtant matters to attend to (i.e. the Spencer/JJ dilemma). As you were.
