  • I am not sure what I am thinking about the FS24. It is a FLIGHT Simulator, we need realistic weather, realistic clouds etc. not elephants on the ground. Sorry

I have seen it, but won't remember where because I saw so many videos and read so many articles that would be impossible to remember. It seemed pretty good. You can even see your whole flight path in-sim (like flying a drone with your flight path marked on the screen).

Cool - looking forward to the new planner, career mode, and charts. As much as I like Navigraph and OnAIr, I'd really like to get subscription stuff like that inside the sim if possible.

One thing to note is that the in sim planner won't auto-route (according to one of the YouTubers at the event, can't remember who), so you'll need to either copy a route from simbrief or create your own.

I personally am fine with this, but some may prefer the auto-route.

Well, 2024 has certainly turned XP72's opinion around. He's not a pilot but now he thinks 2024's flight model is great after consistently saying 2020's was inferior for years. Expect more of this since he hasn't been the only one.

I mean, heck, if they can get everything to fly as nicely as the FSR500 already does in v2020 (which is all native CFD/et al)...

In other words, if I want the same ATR I have, I'll have to buy the more expensive 2024 version? no thanks. At least, not at that price. Sorry...

No, if you already bought a DLC addon like the ATR, it'll carry over.

If they release an upgrade/new features, you might have to buy the upgrade (which is reasonable).

No... the sensors, testing, and use of real aicraft is to *refine* the flight modelling for each aircraft, and IRL aircraft and test flying them are something MS can better access than most devs (and it's a more scientific approach as Seb says that they and team are following now for their own aircraft flight models). But of course top tier aircraft devs like PMDG, Fenix, etc also have resources to access IRL aircraft and Level D sims to help them with their development.

I'll amplify that and say that, IMHO, the IRL test flights and instrumentation - for Asobo - are not really for the addon, but rather for the Aerodynamic Engine of the simulator. I.e., "Y plane should have X performance and Z handling characteristics under W conditions".

With those validations, the sim's Aero Engine will produce more accurate results for all developers.

absolutely! to me this is the proverbial "game" or shall we say "sim" changer. in the past it used to be the closer you got to the ground the fuzzier and coarser the ground got. now finally the ground detail becomes finer and at a much higher resolution the lower and closer you get to the ground. this will be a totally new experience and will increase the immersion for all GA and bush pilots. even more so in VR.

MSFS 2024 will not leave much time for anything else with so much new scenery to discover. uninhabitated areas I would never ever have visited otherwise. impressive how many completely unrelated aspects of flying they are covering: from FL450 in your jet down to mother earth in your bush plane. winter and bad weather days can come.

2024 is an upgrade but still could be so much more.

3D landscape, rocks grass tessellation etc look fantastic

missions, training, loads of aircraft, more advanced flight planning, physics upgrade, cirrus clouds and improved lighting are all great.

ATC is delayed though - that’s disappointing but hopefully will be with us with an early update.

AI traffic logic - no news yet on that, hopefully dev q&a may provide answers there.

solid mass under bridges still - I thought that was fixed?

those strange black lines around certain landmasses like cliff edges where it meets water - I still see that unfortunately

default airports, I would like to see some screenshots of the improvements to those - we already know about the handcrafted ones which have had a touch up.

I was going to leap into the deluxe (steam) version again, but as I have Xbox ultimate I’ll probably try the standard first for free

I’m excited but also concerned- just a little bit 😏

i agree with all your points!

i forget which creator it was - Jeff Favignano or XP72 maybe - but they took off from a default airport and it looked just as bad as the 2020 ones. 😕

excited but concerned is how i'd describe my feelings as well.

I wasnt sure about career mode and if I would use it as I enjoy free flight and running my business in OnAir. Additionally, I am not one to fly default planes as I have a very limited fleet of planes I fly which is the A2A Comanche and the Black Square Duke(s). However, the thought of using career mode for helos greatly interest me (especially in VR) as well as banner tows and agricultural spraying since all of those will offer new location and added assets. All of which its more about the task than the actual flight of the plane.

I don't think this is its final form. Probably a bug. Even the current flight planner injects the plan for the default airplanes.

I think it was really interesting to see the reasoning behind improving complexity for the ground/terrain. Most will say it's just eye candy. But Jörg talked about it in one of the interviews, it was basically to do the ground physics right. His words were something on those lines: we could have faked it (the effects) but we've decided to make it right.

We had the fake version in SU15 (not ideal), now we are seeing it fully feature. So far so good.

Exactly!  What I keep reminding myself is that this is a new game and we're at the start of it's development journey.

Microsoft's published aircraft, which the ATR is, will receive free upgrades according to Jorg.

Here's a quote from FS Elite on it:

https://fselite.net/content/first-look-hands-on-with-microsoft-flight-simulator-2024/

Quote

In the build we used, you had to create the route manually, selecting SIDs and STARs and then adding your route between each point. I asked if it was possible to have the system ‘build’ a route but was told not at this time

Doesn't sound like a bug.

I've been hearing the same thing for decades in the video game industry and really rarely have I seen real improvements in the first few months after gold.
