Will you keep both versions of MSFS?

Featured Replies

I am using a 1TB (M.2) hard drive for MSFS.  My question is whether most simmers will keep both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 on their computers OR will you completely erase MSFS 2020 and use MSFS 2024 exclusively?  Is there a plan to save 2020 for some particular reason?  I was going to simply buy the Premium Deluxe Version (I just bought it "pre-sale" today!) but totally UNINSTALL 2020 before I put 2024 on a clean SSD. What possible advantages or important reasons would there be for keeping both versions on your computer?

What's the general thinking about this transition?

  • I'll probably initially keep it so I can test my 2020 products in 2024 After that it's bye bye to 2020!

  • Absolutely not. MSFS 2020 is dead to me by the time 2024 releases.

  • I hope the addon linker will be updated for use in 2024 - then I can continue using my freeware stuff.

I'll keep both for a few months just incase there's any show stoppers early on in 2024.

It's a hard question! MSFS is taking a lot of space! On one hand I want to keep both, but limited space may force me to commit exclusively to 2024. The biggest question here is how fast developers be able to convert existing MSFS add on to new platform!

It would be a braver man than me to instantly delete 2020 trusting all is peachy with 2024.

If everything carries across to 2024 then there’ll be very little point in keeping 2020 in the long run but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, as they say.

Will keep using 2020 till aircraft's and scenery I use have been ported over and well the chaos that will ensure in the first week.

Gonna run both in parallel at first. I have a separate 2TB nvme that currently has my  P3d installs, version 5.4:and 6.2.  Since both seem to be abandoned for the time being I will free up that P3D drive for MSFS 2024 and if things change for the better for P3d I can reinstall to the former MSFS 2020 drive once I delete it after 2024 proves satisfactory.

I'm definitely keeping MSFS 2020 around for a while in case my 3rd party add-ons don't work completely as-is in the early days of MSFS 2024, and also in case there are initial showstopper bugs in 2024. If disk space is a problem keep in mind that MSFS 2024 is a much thinner client (though that doesn't really help with non-marketplace aircraft and other add-ons I guess).

I’m planning to keep 2020 until the BS Dukes are confirmed to work in 2024.  However, knowing me better than that, after I jump into 2024 on day one I won’t be going back.

I am with you. I'm going to wait a couple of weeks, and see what users are experiencing in MSFS 2024, before I make the move.  Right now, 2020 is the most stable Sim I have ever used, so I am kind of spoiled. I hope 2024 isn't going to be like 2020 after a massive update, and then we discover  what the beta testers missed...

2024 only. I can't not 😞

Rob Jones.

Luckily I'm going on holiday the same time MSFS 2024 is being released so I'll be able to watch the chaos from the beach. I'll be back just as the dust is settling.

2020 will be scrubbed from my machine in the week prior to the launch of 2024. I am excited to be freed of all the pay ware I have acquired and to just use the new base sim for a while, gives me a chance to get a feel for the native simulator and to explore its features and user interface. I will then be excited to begin adding things back in as they become available.
