September 20, 20241 yr If/when I make the decision to upgrade to MSFS 2024, my existing version will be removed completely. I don't deal with multiple versions of the same simulator series. September 20, 20241 yr As I do not know which add-ons directly work with MS2024 I will keep MSFS 2020 as long as needed to just have at least one sim capable of running my PMDG and Fenix. I assume, that some days up to weeks will be needed for third party devs to update the necessary things to make the products work with MSFS2024 I know MS told that 2024 is working with products bought at MSFS 2020. BUT I assume this counts for products which are FULLY (100%} developped with their SDK and do not have any work around or similar things used (like a Fenix via the Installer and Fenix app running outside of 2020. Or fscrew running along. Or fsltl and fbw running outside the aim and injecting the addon into the sim via simlink etc. Navigator etc etc. I'm pretty sure they need these weeks to make some changes to make the products fully work. Because the MSFS 2024 has some huge changes like none DX11 ETC. Regards, Marcus P.
September 20, 20241 yr At this moment in time I'll say Yes but that could change, I envisage installing MSFS24 alongside the current one just to swap over control bindings or something but I'll no doubt soon uninstall the msfs2020. At first I'll play about with the career mode and stuff, await the many apps I use to update before I find into free flying and stuff. September 20, 20241 yr Great question. It's something i was contemplating. I'll likely shortly after installing 2024 delete 2020. I'll use the released drive space to store the addons. I just brought a Samsung 2TB SATA drive as well and I'll put the fresh install on it. Before FS 2020 i had on my hd space Xplane and P3D. Those are both long gone. September 20, 20241 yr Well I'm not going to 2024 till about a year down the line. It wasn't all that long ago MSFS 2020 was literally ground breaking and it still feels like that to me every time i load it up. To go along with the pretence that somehow MSFS wasn't good enough and its all about MSFS 24, is to me delusional. It happens a lot, the very same people that would of been shutting down any slight critique of MSFS over the last few years, will be the same people getting 2024 and saying how much better it is and pointing out all the faults with MSFS 20 ............... madness. There are so many places i've not flown in MSFS 20 still, I've never done a full flight using the big passenger aircraft..... loads still to explore... Ryzen 5 3600 / RTX 2070 8GB / 2x8 RAM/
September 20, 20241 yr I'll keep MSFS 2020 around until I'm sure a few key add-ons (I have to have my A2A Comanche for example) work. Hopefully developers get early copies and everything moves over easily. A default MSFS 2024 isn't a whole lot of use to me for very long. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF

September 20, 20241 yr Can you install MSFS on any drive or will it always clog up the Windows drive slightly? If so, by how much? That will pretty much decide if I run both. 2020 is on C and I'm getting clogged. Will buy a new M2 now if I can install 2024 onto X or whatever.

My question is whether most simmers will keep both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 on their computers OR will you completely erase MSFS 2020 and use MSFS 2024 exclusively? Is there a plan to save 2020 for some particular reason? I was going to simply buy the Premium Deluxe Version (I just bought it "pre-sale" today!) but totally UNINSTALL 2020 before I put 2024 on a clean SSD. What possible advantages or important reasons would there be for keeping both versions on your computer? What's the general thinking about this transition? September 20, 20241 yr Yes. Until I'm happy with 2024. I use addons linker so hopefully that will just need a little bit of tweaking (maybe a second copy or config file if no upgrade appears) to allow me to point my current addons to the new community file. If everything works ok with 2024 I can't imagine any reason to keep 2020. Space is not an issue, so I'll keep it as long as necessary but no longer. I used to keep P3D versions around to support older non-compatible aircraft, but can't see myself doing that for MSFS. Exactly my thoughts, once all my addons work (or are outdated by better models) and 2024 offers at least the same level of experience then 2020 can go, until then I'll keep it. September 20, 20241 yr I'm keeping both versions. Almost 2TB is free on my 4TB drive. I predict all will not be roses when the new version is released. And I will want to do comparisons with the plane flights and scenery between the 2 versions. Things may not be playing nice in the new version that I can go and see is working fine in the old. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
