Some more first impressions.

Career mode is a bit of a grind than I had expected. I've taken my CPL checkride (just a short A-to-B flight, no actual commercial manoeuvres), and it looks like I'll need to do a fair number of flights to earn credits before I can afford to get my next endorsement (probably high-performance? Hope that will allow me to earn credits more quickly).

Scenery looks great. I'll have to go back to MSFS 2020 to see how much of this is placebo effect, but I like the bare trees -- looks very appropriate to the time of year in my location, and the long shadows that the trees cast in the low sun is very atmospheric. Big airports are not really much to look at in the default rendition -- but small airfields look more convincing. The improved ground detail helps with the immersion here, and I've been enjoying the small airfields I've been visiting on career mode missions.

Still a laggy menu mess. Aircraft selection not working..it hangs. Eveything seems cloud driven. That is just absurd. Everything, every single option has a loading rectangle.

This is just bad.

Got bogged down in the traffic when I attempted to download 2024 last night so gave it a miss and re-tried this morning. Installed and went into free flight without a hitch.  Set up controls and went up for a flight.  Oh doesn't it look good!  no problems here.

Installed and working.  Getting a few more stutters than I would have wanted with lower settings than MSFS 2020.

One question.  Does texture resolution include terrain textures?  Or does it always look rubbish?

Runs worse for me than MSFS2020.

Control scheme is a mess.  Why can't you just import your controls from MSFS2020?

No friggin apron lights for default airports again how hard is it?????????.

The walk around at the start when you load into a flight is annoying as hell.

I don't like the EFB.

It's just a prettier bare bones sim.  I'm not blown away at all.  Paid $185 AUD for Premium Deluxe I feel ripped off.

Can anyone who is already flying comment on the sea traffic (ships, boats) they're seeing? One of the issues in the Alpha was that every ship model defaulted to a cruise ship, and these were clogging up the waterways. I'd like to know if they managed to put in the additional ship models in the release version. Thanks!

I went to many, many watery places.

Almost all the watercraft were the same models as in 2020.

Plenty of variety beyond cruise ships dotted around, but no new stuff.

Maybe 2020 models are a lower tier and the fancy new ones were turned off.

It's incredible how a flight sim, once a niche product, is generating so much interest.

The money I spent on 2024 is an investment that will provide 4 years of free updates. By then 2024 will be far superior to 2020.

2020 is still working fine.

I spent a few hours in the sim last night, overall impression = impressed.

Performance: Excellent, even in metropolitan areas with photogrammetry. The dynamic LOD thingie actually works. Also: flights loaded within seconds, no delays in loading PG, ground textures etc.

C172 flight model:  I was positively surprised. She seemed convincing, stable in smooth air, behaves realistically while taxi, takeoff roll and landing.

Ground detail and ground physics:  Absolutely awesome! I took off and landed from a gravel runways, a beach - dust and sand whirls up. Increased ground friction makes takeoffs challenging, wheels leave marks in the sand, landing gear dynamically interacts with the ground.

Trees, vegetation: Looks very convincing and adds to the immersion. Different types of grass, flowers, different biomes, trees are highly detailed, moves in the wind.

AI aircraft at airports: a bit of a mess! At the relatively small airport of ENBR Bergen Norway, there was a 747 with default livery, KLM 777, military helicopters… completely unrealistic (I know the airport well).

Replay: works well, easy to use!

There’s a lot that I haven’t mentioned, but those are the main things I can remember for now. Sim is still running - I’m not gonna restart it unless I absolutely have to! 😅

Excellent! Seems like a lot of real life pilots are saying the flight model for GA planes has improved immensely!  Good to also hear the  ground handling has vastly improved.

They are going have  to sort out the bugs - and yeah, there are a lot of bugs to fix. And the 3rd party devs are going to have to get their add ons compatible with MSFS 2024. But we can all imagine when that happens, how good MSFS 2024 will be!

I finally got it installed and working. I've got the Aviator's version and all of the expected planes were present. Although my controls were recognised (the Thrustmaster Airbus set) none of the buttons or axes were mapped. I tried to configure them but found the menu to do this difficult to understand and very complicated.

I'm getting on a bit so it could just be me, but I also found the new flight planner to be a bit of a mystery and that it doesn't seem to work with the default 320 which surprised me.

So for now 2024 is unplayable for me and I've uninstalled it. I'll wait until there are some YouTube videos about setting up controllers and using the flight planner etc. Until then it's back to 2020.

I'm sure that given time 2024 will be wonderful.

Playing a game from the cloud is always going to be an issue when to many players play at the same time.
The bandwidth error in FS2024 will be more frequent then in FS2020.

Not my experience, took multiple instalols, uninstalls and reinstalls to get the sim to actually load and not hang.  Now it loads, but is stuck and wont start a flight at all.

all fine here. very smooth, dialed gfx settings up to basically high. quite good so far what I see. just these controller settings and bindings are driving me nuts, by now I managed to (re)configure my mouse as like I am used to it from MS2020, next is the sidestick and last - arrrgg - the TM throttle...
