It's 24 hours later and I finally managed to sit in the cockpit for the first time in MSFS2024. Unfortunately, I chose the 172 classic for my first flight only to learn that it doesn't have electricity to start the engine.
So after even CTRL-E failed, I exited the flight and decided to try the Cessna 152. That aircraft doesn't load, presumably because the servers still can't cope.

So after 24 hours I still haven't been able to do an actual flight so apart from the weird observation that not only is the data streamed from the cloud but it seems to rendered there as well, because the clarity of the cockpit seems to change between blurry to sharp.

Will I ever manage to get to actually fly something in this wretched sim?

I have completed two flights.

When it's working (emphasis), the ambiance, colors and lighting is a true masterpiece.

In general, my opinion, the flight dynamics is a huge improvement vs  FS2020. The default 737-8 actually felt very nice. Lateral control during takeoffs is much much improved.

But as noted by many, UI is rather meh (just copy XP12, it's the best there is) and menus are not snappy at all, for some reason.

Performance on my 6 year old i9 9900k is good in 4k. I can easily maintain 30fps with most setting medium/high.

Also, aerodrome ground lighting is not very convincing. Actually a regression IMHO.

I like the 737 Max 8 but it has no passenger cabin and pales in comparison to iFly's masterpiece which I can't wait for it to be ported over.

It does have a cabin you need to select it in the configuration menu.

Various small flights, basically in/out to check and adjust and correct my controller bindings (let‘s not talk about that, please. This is really the study level often requested 😉 )

performance is great with my basically high settings all over, did not go up to ultra yet but what i see at high is already pleasing.

graphics are very good, taking off from LOWI RWY26 and flying along that mountain to the right and the river Inn below with shallow sandbanks - nice touch

night lighting I found superb, at least LOWI again. Def better than 2020, lights far away are shimmering/flcikering, taxiway lights nicely glowing, sunset looked great.

the UI, well can get used to it but may take a while, more xbox like than before.

did I mention controller binding? That’ll cost me days I am afraid. Though MS by now posted some controller setting guide, I still did not find a way to use the control listener for axes adjustments, let alone understand how controller profiles are set as default when I have also aircraft based profiles….

Don Emilio Airport region, South America. Nothing so scenic in ms2020 like this.

I found this region by typing "fauna" into the search box. Apparently, Fauna is a town.

Just for fun I checked out this location in MSFS2020, and it appears nearly identical except that the trees are much smaller than the ones in your screenshot above (more realistic in MSFS2020, maybe?). The colors, intensity, distant mountains, etc.  all look very much the same to me. Of course I can't compare the ground textures close-up, which may well be different.

Of course is the young bro of msfs 2020; smoother and sharper;  fun to fly; now plz misobo make sure the servers keep pushing it down the pipe.

Install for me was a one and done affair.

Less than an hour (Steam install hit install right at release h-hour.)

Flew for a while and logged off, could not log in again all day due to the queue.

Started up this morning got right in flew a bit - then again this afternoon.

I enjoyed the flight model so much I couldn’t see myself going back to 2020… so I uninstalled it!

Spent sometime learning the control GUI and got all my bindings on my controllers to run just as they were setup in 2020.

Now, just enjoying it and looking forward to the future!

Yes just got it to work. Series x. Flew from aspen, flew from Liverpool. To be honest the graphics were stellar for me. Only short flight but no texture issues. The controls are completely different now. I will upload some short clips.

Sim has been working 95% fine for me all day. Occasionally I'll spawn at an airport and there will be missing buildings, like they didn't download completely from the cloud, or parts of an aircraft are missing.

I'm in Eastern Canada, so I'd be connecting to whatever server is closest there.

For those who've been able to actually fly in the sim for enough time with live weather, what are everyone's thoughts on weather depiction, clouds, clouds density, and impact to aircraft in dangerous weather?

I was able to take another short flight this a.m., and several short ones after work. Mostly checking out the new aircraft.

I turned on real weather, etc., and double checked that all realism settings were enabled at highest.

Flew the Cirrus Jet (NICE!), the Super Hornet (definitely upgraded), the Asobo MAX BBJ, and the iniBuilds A310 for reference from v2020.

It's been rainy and gusty wind here, so all the aircraft are flying in a "lively" manner 😎

Weather depiction seems fine, or at least as good as before. Haven't paid too much attention to lighting as I'm more focused on learning the new sim and trying out various aircraft.

Basic controls are already mapped for all the aircraft I tried with my TM Warthog HOTAS, including multi-engine, etc.

I will have to add mappings for spoilers/speed brakes, reversers, etc., but that's nothing new.

So NICE to have a control set for each aircraft that actually loads WITH the aircraft! 🙂

I'm already seeing several 3rd Party aircraft available in my Library (e.g., SWS PC-12, IRIS T-6 II, FSR 500, etc.). I haven't tried those as yet, but cool to see they're already available 🙂

So far, I haven't felt any compunction to fire up v2020 again, tho I'm sure there are many who feel otherwise. 👍
