Thanks for the first impressions, sounds promising at least!

Can anyone who is already flying comment on the sea traffic (ships, boats) they're seeing? One of the issues in the Alpha was that every ship model defaulted to a cruise ship, and these were clogging up the waterways. I'd like to know if they managed to put in the additional ship models in the release version. Thanks!

I finally got in by just letting it cook on the queue screen.

I flew 2 hours or so in the Cessna 172 and 152 Aerobat and the Barron. I even started a career in Indiana (lol). No crashes. Very smooth.

Over all, I thought my experience was great. Really relieved that it is not, in fact, the same as the Tech Alpha.

The Barron was pretty weak. The other 2 were really good.

Flew for around for 3 hours and had the most fun since those beginning days of 2020. The attention to detail is crazy. Went back to my old home field of KRYV in the XCub and did some touch 'n go's. Used the high clouds preset with the sun rising. The sunlight alternating to shadows through the trees as I taxied looked awesome. With each touch 'n go the windscreen accumulated more splattered bugs. I never flew a Cub but it probably could have been a bit more squirrely on landing, there was a slight crosswind and I was just using the twist on my MS FFB2 stick for rudder so I definitely wasn't as coordinated during landing as I should have been, and taildraggers typically punish you for something like that. But in the air it flies like a dream, trimming out easily.

I flew to the east at around 2000ft AGL and the higher resolution of the DEMs is very noticeable when the sun is low and casts shadows over every nook and cranny. Landed at a small aeroclub, and my lack of differential breaking made navigating the tiny taxiways a bit difficult. I ended up in the grass and gunned it to get moving, then gave it full rudder to try and get back to where I needed to be on the taxiway. The steerable tailwheel just skidded on the grass and then the pavement. Never tried this in real life, but with a lot of momentum but no propwash to kick out the tail, I'm guessing this is somewhat realistic. I don't remember if 2020 did this as well, but under normal circumstances you can whip the tail around much easier.

I did a bunch of landing challenges, and some are carried over from 2020. Every plane feels so much better. The Porter in particular was junk in 2020 but it's actually usable now. Slipping is much more effective than it ever was in 2020, but I really wish they added the wind noise sound effect for it. The wind on the flaps sounds great when you extend them and really gives that sense of opening up the barn doors into the wind.

Those saying the graphics are only a minor upgrade aren't paying attention to the details. I would post screenshots but they're all in HDR and don't look nearly as good when converted. Thats another thing: the HDR is extremely well done. Using an AW3423DW which supports HDR 1000 and the sun, sky, and lights at night look great.

Not going to pretend there were no issues... earlier this evening I saw an AI 737 do a cartwheel in front of me, and each of the 3 times I stopped playing today were due to crashes. But the 3rd and final session of the evening was the most stable yet. And performance is significantly better than 2020. I can count on one hand the number of noticeable stutters I've gotten with about 4.5hrs of flight time today. 12900k, 3090 with 64GB RAM, so not top of the line anymore. And that was running Ultra.

This sim is a huge step above 2020 for VFR fans like myself. Hopefully the server issues are resolved soon.

There seems to be a variety now, but when I flew past the Chicago river they were all pointing in the wrong direction, basically blocking the river instead of traveling down it. I'm wondering if that data wasn't syncing up properly, or if they have issues with smaller rivers at the moment.

Well done to those that managed. I'm holding off for a few days because I thought this release day chaos was inevitable. I look forward to seeing peoples' screenshots and reading impressions

Thanks for checking!

Working for me.  Only flown the c172. I think the flight dynamics have improved quit a bit over msfs 2020. However, the visuals are far better in msfs 2020 on my system.  With everything on ultra in 2024, the quality of the ground, buildings, mountains etc is poor compared to 2020.  Flying around ELP out in west Texas was disappointing. The trees ruined the desert feel.

In all I think 2024 is a mess its probably 6 - 12 months away with multiple updates before its any good just like 2020 was.

I did expect this so no surprise that History has repeated.

I cant see myself uninstalling 2020 anytime soon

Checked! Rant is over. It works. Even real world AI with correct liveries.

It stuns me.

I am at home base EHEH. Full of A321 wizzairs it is total madness. Not seen any Ryanair 38 Max though.

Left it running in the login queue for an hour or so and it eventually made it's way through.

Took a 10 min flight around Home Base in the 172 G1k.

Everything seemed to work fine, plane flew nicely, scenery looked fine.

I did take it off the runway and yeah, very rough and bumpy - nice 🙂

Had to wrap it up quickly, will poke around a bit more tomorrow between meetings 😉

I spent a few hours in the sim last night, overall impression = impressed.

Performance: Excellent, even in metropolitan areas with photogrammetry. The dynamic LOD thingie actually works. Also: flights loaded within seconds, no delays in loading PG, ground textures etc.

C172 flight model:  I was positively surprised. She seemed convincing, stable in smooth air, behaves realistically while taxi, takeoff roll and landing.

Ground detail and ground physics:  Absolutely awesome! I took off and landed from a gravel runways, a beach - dust and sand whirls up. Increased ground friction makes takeoffs challenging, wheels leave marks in the sand, landing gear dynamically interacts with the ground.

Trees, vegetation: Looks very convincing and adds to the immersion. Different types of grass, flowers, different biomes, trees are highly detailed, moves in the wind.

AI aircraft at airports: a bit of a mess! At the relatively small airport of ENBR Bergen Norway, there was a 747 with default livery, KLM 777, military helicopters… completely unrealistic (I know the airport well).

Replay: works well, easy to use!

There’s a lot that I haven’t mentioned, but those are the main things I can remember for now. Sim is still running - I’m not gonna restart it unless I absolutely have to! 😅

I too am impressed.

I had wizzairs A321's at Eindhoven Airbase. Totally true to life.

However trees on runway grassland, so edited scenery needed.

Lighting in sim is superb, especially the vanilla clouds and formations. Fog and rain too, fantastic. A very big uplift from 2020.

PG, works now for me too. FG is off but still worked as silk with only lossless scaling on. Render scheduling 100/ amd fsr 200. TLOD/OLOD @ 200 Just like I have in msfs 2020. Works very well.

Next flight is going to be with A330.

Process lasso 0-7 core P like in msfs2020 affinity. Works superb.

Do you have this issue in map display with GPS location not loading in Cessna 172 G1000? I waited already 10 minutes, and GPS it seems to be off, both avionics bus are on as you can see in the capture below.

Edit: The GPS is working; it's just that the airplane icon on the map is wrong. Is there a way to change it?
