So after several hours of stable play my first impressions are this.

It’s not a radical improvement on 2020. Yes you can get out of your plane which for bush flights will be great but I found the environment on the ground to not look as lush or as detailed as originally shown. Grass is patchy, the road next to the strip didn’t look like asphalt etc.

The graphics are nice and the detail seems better and the general map more accurate.its nice to see landmarks already in the sim, for instance I took off from John Lennon Liverpool, and the Runcorn bridge, Mersey gateway and fiddlers ferrry were already in the sim and looking great.

I do think it doesn’t look as realistic as what 2020 can at times though - the colours seem exaggerated but maybe that’s just me.

The menus feel clunky and designed for Xbox users with you having to switch rather than use cursor. The career is the differentiator here - it seems to be the reason this was made. I only managed a few lessons before the sim started to melt around me. Im not sure with the whole cloud thing.

Photogrammetry still looked melted like 2020 on the ground. Although I could walk down my street, the detail wasn’t there. Not sure if live weather was working - seemed to have clear skies constantly. Didn’t see a ship whilst flying by Bootle docks.

It was enjoyable but I just have to ask myself was this necessary? 2020 still does things very well. I’ll spend a bit more time in it of course to form a final opinion.

For those who've been able to actually fly in the sim for enough time with live weather, what are everyone's thoughts on weather depiction, clouds, clouds density, and impact to aircraft in dangerous weather?

Haven't felt much turbolence in clouds yet, the looks of the clouds is amazing - the clouds look more dense now, realistic and sharp. I fly a lot in the Caribbean and finally the clouds there look like they do in videos and photos instead of 2020's fluffy puffs with no shadows

Actually I don't think this is finished. Just been at Sedona (not the most complex of airports). Massive pop in issues, some planes were blocks, some had wheels missing. Trees were popping up a few feet away.

The tech needs refining. Im on a really strong connection.

I agree, and maybe it's just streaming or the type of layer I hit, but the clouds I have seen so far look truly awful.
The sim has potential, as did 2020, but I still need to use it more to find its strengths.

So far there are issues with colors, clouds, ground textures, ground color sudden blending (though this was an issue in FS 2020, its not fixed).
The ground color blending looks worse than before even, the color changes are very abrupt with no gradient.

My take is actually the opposite. (Small sample size though)

I have seen fantastic cloudscapes where I had unstable airmass with CBs below and a more stable status layer above me while flying a turboprop in the non-icing cloud free altitude Sandwiched in between.

Great potential

Managed to load into a flight this morning for the first time without crashes or massively degraded textures. Didn't see too much difference between 20 and 24. However, even though I loaded in, I still won't properly judge what I'm seeing until all the bandwidth issues are sorted out.

The new trees with the snow on top almost makes up for the terrible clouds.

I don't think this fidelity was possible in 2020 (maybe), but I don't remember it.

However, outside of dense forests, the game generally looks worse (just imho).

Question

Im on Xbox gamepass and however it picks up the old deactivated Xbox account scenery and aircraft.

Whats going on here?

Other than that the A330 is fun to fly.

Given that the aircrafts are "streamed in" to the msfs 2024 client is the flight model configuration files accessable, (eg Flight model .cfg) for tweaking? These were available locally in the aircraft folder with 2020.

After being part of the 97% club, installed and did some tests.

After a full VFR flight on 172, and almost a full one in the a320 (then crashed while i was assigning controls), my first impressions are mixed.

Graphics are great when streaming works, but may happen to have missing textures or very low lod sometimes, probably cause of servers/bandwidth). Performance too, on my pc is much smoother.

Flight model, as far as i can comment about it (not having high end controls), feels much better, i can hand fly both GA and airliners more easily than before, they feel less twitchy, till I dont get into a wake turbolence. 🤣

But "word not allowed" control configuration! Dont like that absolute mess at all.

Triple screen configuration too, had to copy/paste it from 2020 user.cfg to make it work. They didnt care to make it better.

Looks like an unfinished product,  but same happened with 2020, so just a matter of time, hoping they will solve new and old bugs.

Maybe an early glitch for you at this early stage.  Clouds I have seen are superb.

Yeah, I’m really enjoying the new clouds as well, especially the coloring and new cirrus. Also my panel is HDR so things really pop.

So after seeing that many people seem to get in with no problems, I took the plunge. What's the harm, you can refund if the experience is still abysmal.

Turns out it is not. Everything worked, installation was a breeze, now my marketplace purchases from MSFS are slowly ported over during the last hours (My CowanSim Helos are now ready to take off), performance is relatively good, much improved in VR.

But I get all the moaning about the controller set up. That really is a learning curve.
