December 27, 20241 yr I built a new sim computer because my old one 7 years of great simming, XP 10&11, FS2020. It was getting long in the tooth with i5 and 1070. New one: i7 14700 64MB RAM and 4070 Super w/16GB VRAM. Also shown below. Launch was a mess for sure. But after a few days it was fine for me at least, fast startup and loads here in NH w/500mbs connection. To start I used 2020 and 2024, but now I am solid on 2024. I even went back and bought a new Heli for XP12, the B407 for XP12. Just to compare sims. Frankly I just cant play XP12 anymore I feel like I am in a cartoon. In 2024 I fly the Fenix A319 and A321 most as well as the Bonanza and Barons. But my favorite is actually the R66, it is really wonderful and pretty easy to fly. The Graphics in 2024 are way superior in every way, IMHO. A lot of the systems need work, but once I figured out how to use the binding process I actually really like the 2024 interface best of all 3. It is different and more powerful. But it needs some really good clear instructions or videos so we can easily learn it. Once you get it it is great. I use a 4 screen and an iPad setup to fly and the FPS is great much better than XP12 and a bit better than 2020 for me anyway. I think the main takeaway for me is you need a powerful computer and GPU to run 2024 well, but when you do it is the best and will only get better. So I am looking forward to a great 2025 year of simming. Happy new Year and great simming to all, whatever you decide is better. December 27, 20241 yr OP. Your setup is exactly like mine including the 64 GB RAM. Day one performance was dismally broken, but has been getting better since. I kept 2020 installed and still fly it from time to time as it still looks and performs stunningly but…I do find myself in 2024 more and more these days. YMMV. TANSTAAFL. HNY 2025! -B

December 27, 20241 yr Yes, scenery wise it's really the Best ever ( well, not at the default airports because of the ighting and some other details which IMO XP12 does better... ) Flight wise feels as cartoonish as GTA or War Thunder... hence why I keep using both XP12 and FS 2024... I spend some splendid hours playing FS 2024 with BATC or FSHUD with FSLTL AI traffic on **just** the Fenix A320, and then I have to detox for a week in XP12, wash and rinse, FS 2024... XP12... I alternate this cycle with yet another sim that beats both XP and MSFS hands down when soaring is the objective - Condorsoaring 3. I enjoyed reading it from the beginning till the end. It is interesting to be able to compare experiences of various users. I myself have some serious doubts about FS2024 which I am using since Day 3 (too many trees in autogen cities, overdone reflections on steam gauges and windshield, dark cockpits etc.) Posts like yours give me different angle of view and motivate me to look for solutions. As I have stated before, when earlier you used the word 'arcade' in another thread, I find these comparisons to be unfunded and way, way over the top. Flight model wise all desktop simulators for home use can be labeled with the word arcade, or be compared to games not considered serious simulation for that matter. Nevertheless some of us, especially in other parts of these forums, feel differently about that, sitting on their high horses, claiming there is only the one, lol. Nothing wrong with that of course, but I find it plain silly. Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024

December 27, 20241 yr I’ve not flown in 2020 since I installed 2024, even though I had day 1 issues. Maybe if I’d used it everyday then I would have been tempted to retreat to the relative safety of 2020, but as the days passed between flights things gradually improved and I’m now having some great experiences in 2024. for me the ground details alone (I fly mostly GA) is reason enough not to go back to 2020. Yes 2024 has many issues, and I’m sure more will be introduced when other features are switched on - but it’s 24 for me now. as a safety net 2020 hasn’t been uninstalled. December 27, 20241 yr I am confused. Some people say that MSFS 2024 runs better than MSFS 2020 on the same specification hardware. Others say that you need a powerful PC to be able to run it properly. So which one is it? Others say that you need a powerful PC to be able to run it properly. So which one is it? I think it does run better on any hardware, but to get the true fantastic experience (especially at 4K or multi screen like I do) you really need the "recommended higher hardware" (see the MSFS 2024 recommended diagram). To me it is a big step forward in realistic landscape, and cloud rendering in high and ultra anyway. I think you would be happier with updated hardware, but it will certainly play with lower setup. Right now there are some very good deals on components, especially i7's. I have no problems at all with my intel hardware. Intel did have some problems early this year, therefor the good pricing. Also I really got a good deal on my RTX 4070ti Super and it is only a few percentage points below 4080's and almost ⅓ less expensive. Just my opinions and experience.
