MSFS Developer Livestream Feb 5, 2025

It pleases me no end that 2024 was rushed out to make more even money for Microsoft during Christmas. My nightmare is when MS quits making a whole lot of money on this sim. All big businesses actually. When they are happy, my life is better and more secure.

To be honest, I am very happy they are building this out for consoles and I have been quietly watching the advancements over the past few years as more peripherals are working with the X.  When my wife and I eventually downsize, sometime in the next few years, I will likely continue simming but on a console that is more space conscious than my current set up.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Well, of course it was, and likely for other consoles as well. The good news is that we benefit as well.

I finally deleted MSFS2020 this morning, and...... It's hard to describe my exact feelings watching as literally hundreds of gigabytes: essentially an entire SSD, suddenly became available for other things after four years of being monopolized for Flightsim.

I was willing to have an intelligent discussion on the matter but you've gone completely on the defensive path, so nevermind.

as we all know these Q&As are largely a marketing exercise, lots of Hot Air with empty statements to make themselves look good.

You wanted an intelligent conversation after that?

They locked themselves into releasing it in 2024 because 2024 was in the title of the game.

Would it have been difficult or impossible to substitute 4 with a 5? 😉

10-15 minute re-install for 2024 replaces it 🙂

nor you when you state it's "incredible" when it's riddled with bugs & issues (this is a fact) and following on from a disastrous launch, the Q&As have long been a marketing exercise, Jorg & martial have long fumbled their way through them staring blankly at the cameras not understanding what it is the user base is asking them like rabbits trapped in headlights -the proof is there go back and watch them all!

Look it's great that you're enjoying the sim, it really is, but for many of us it's still (including SU1 Beta) a complete shambles and no amount of smiling to the Q&A Fans is going to change that. Actions speak much more louder than their words and I've learnt in 5 years that their words mean very very little.

The problem is that they spent money and time already promoting MSFS 2024. To change the title, they would have to undo their original advertising and push out new advertising to get the new message out that it's MSFS 2025 and not MSFS 2024. That could cost them more money.

Also, I assume Jorg had made an agreement with whomever he was reporting to at Microsoft (ie. his boss), that they would release it in 2024. Usually budgets are set for a specific duration for a project. If Jorg needed to delay the release until 2025, he would have to get approval from his boss to increase the budget. Telling your boss that you have to increase your budget because you can't make the original schedule is really tough.

In hindsight though, he probably should have asked for an extension, a rebrand of the title, and an increase of the budget, given they lost revenue from the refunds and MSFS 2020 users who still haven't switched over (it's also possible that Jorg did ask for this but he was denied).

Ah, so the "thin client" format was designed for XBox?

No. The disk space requirement just to download all the world updates and sim content that belongs to you when you buy it was 2TB or so.
There is no PC game which has so much content.
So, it was not sustainable to ask every buyer to provide 2TB just in order to install the base sim.

DLSS4 will be implemented in SU2, which is good to know. A bit disappointing that it happens this late perhaps. I was under the impression that it would be "Day1 ready" in MSFS2024 i.e. as of the release of the latest Nvidia driver Jan 30th.

Will official implementation bring any improvements over the current dlss4 and nvpi presets?

Well there is no reason why it shouldn't be.  If people can do it in a few seconds by following a set of instructions (like yours), then why can't Asobo do it?
It's not like it takes any difficult programming, it just needs them to set up the sim configuration slightly differently.

You see, this is why I don't have much faith in Asobo (particularly Martial).  They make out everything is difficult and takes a lot of time.

Well this doesn't, and they could have implemented it quite quickly and easily, but they want to make us wait three months for SU2  - really?

he stated that they would not make the same mistake next time

Just like he said in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024.  Anybody who takes anything he says seriously has definitely not been paying attention.

MS makes a product and manages to destroy not only the product itself  but its predecessor as well.   This guy has no shame.  Most people wouldn't want to show their face.

I never fell for 2024 so was really miffed when my 2020 installation began crashing.

I guess it would be like trying to change the name of a major movie just a week before the premier. What about the already existing marketing materials, videos, articles in magazines, the probably already created hard media like the metal boxes of the I-can't-remember-the-name-of-it version.....

Probably tons of stuff that it would be a nightmare to attempt altering at the last second.
