Sim Update 2 Beta Released

Featured Replies

This sim update BETA was released so that tens of thousands of testers can run it. Asobo knows about each and every CTD and has clues in the log file about what caused it. Without such a large army of BETA testers, improvements and changes and fixes would happen way too slowly.

There are hundreds of fixes. Of course that will mean problems.

They could just do say 50 fixes and release a BETA. And another 50 and so forth. But that would mean developers would have a hard time updating their addons to work with the latest update (because the updates would happen more often, 10 times as often).

So it seems that a very good option to release fewer updates with 100s of fixes in each, and make it optional so that cautious folk don't have to experience it unless that's what they want to do. Asobo is using that option.

I think a lot of the issues stem from addons. An internal QA team will test a completely clean install to make sure nothing obvious breaks out of the box. Afterwards it's exactly what the public beta

Just a heads up all, additional release notes containing the stuff we (WT) did for this currently available SU2 release are now available at https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sim-update-2-beta-1-4-

Load time for me is just as you have observed. "Fly" does seem to take a little more time.

The latest update (1.4.9.0) seems to have fixed the long loading time. The GTN issue with the Comanche is still there, though.

There is an SU2 update?

edit yes, found it

Just installed the Beta 🙂

I see 1.4.9.0 now, and it's SMOOTH as SILK and... it's probably placebo but the default C172 feels better in "feel of flight"...

Yoke inputs for roll result in a much better feel, but I'll have to test more.

No CTD.

No addons installed - I'm in "BETA" spirit so, only default aircraft!

The patch fixed the crashing with AIG AI models

The A330 wingflex seems to have been fixed with SU2, despite no mention in the patch notes that I can find.

  • Fixed crashes inside GPU drivers due to off-by-one error inside our texture loading code.

I think this was the fundamental issue with the crashes introduced by the first build

Long loading times fixed, it seems. Took me 20 seconds to load into an airport where it was taking 3 minutes.

It seems FSLTL now works without crashing too.

Folks are also reporting the crash caused by that Nvidia driver dll is also fixed. Will have to wait to confirm.

Custom registrations seem to be bugged though, when I zoom out a bit it turns into a white rectangle. Odd.

It looks like this is a very good update.

Yeah, big move to go to XP12. I just spent most of yesterday and today reinstalling FS20, so FS24 is obviously way better in this department. They just need to fix this while the bulk of us are still living.

LOL I hear you!  When I opened up the bizarre controller setup required in 2024 I had the first thoughts of, "heck if I'm going to learn a whole new sim maybe I should change platforms"!  It took me way too long to learn its cryptic ways of doing things!

I wonder if it's an LOD issue

It's possible. Contrails seem to be back though, so something seems improved regarding LOD.

FSLTL Traffic Injector 1.6.8 available in FBW installer

Fixes
MSFS2024 SU2 beta changed the content of the UserCfg.opt sim file which the FSLTL injector uses to find your Community folder, and these changes broke the injector's ability to read that information.  This is now fixed.
Fixed an issue where we received updated FR24 data for a VFR-injected aircraft that included both an origin and destination.  Previously, the injector would not remove that aircraft to re-inject as IFR.
Fixed an issue where if an IFR aircraft was to be injected as parked and had the same origin and destination, the aircraft may be injected twice. (thanks to @capt sl for reporting this)

Improvements
MSFS2024 uses AI aircraft states slightly different than MSFS2020.  Therefore we've changed the timing and wording for injector console window and log notifications related to those AI aircraft states.

Note:  This DOES NOT change our current stance related to FSLTL's support for MSFS2024.  In fact, the initial SU2 looks to be worse than SU1 for AI.

The nice thing is, there will probably be another 50 fixes gradually rolled out before SU2 is officially released (if the SU1 beta was any indication, along with some things missing in the current beta patch notes that have been slated for SU2).

Lots of positive feedback popping up on the official forums

The new exposure compensation slider in the graphics options is nice.

By the way, anyone else having problems posting in the forum? I can only post using my phone. Strange.

Are there still addons that don’t work because of the UserCfg.opt issues?  That and the crashes (which sound like they were largely fixed in this latest update) were the two things keeping me from joining the beta.
