MSFS 24 SU2 released

Featured Replies

After a few flights, enjoying this release so far. Career mode is working fine, performance is great. overall feels like a really good update.

Still don’t see much traffic in the sky - LoD issue because if you turn nameplates on, you’ll see that the planes are all there, you just have to be really close before they show up. Same with ships, I think.

I suppose it’s just something that will slowly get fixed over time. Certainly not a showstopper.

  • You're not, we are the silent majority who are happily flying instead of complaining in the forums, so it seems we are just a few.

Being part of the SU2 beta was not a negative experience for me.  From day one through two thirds of the beta I couldn't run SU2 successfully for more than a minute.  Often the sim would crash before

It's funny reading the thread since I've already been on the beta hehe. I submitted quite a few bugs and I know others have to. SU2 is a good step in the right direction for msfs 2024.  It's

I am blown away by what, for me is a massive jump in performance. And I thought it was good before!

Yep - agree.  SU2 is great.  So so good!

You have 3090.. So no Framegen before this. So ofcourse you are seeng massive improvement.

Other than that it is performance regresion by tons of reports in beta. Including me with 4090. Massive stutters. They just ignored all the panic reports in beta for 2 weeks and just released it today. Its unbelivable.

I'm on a 4070ti Super and performance is top class.  No issues.  SU2 is great.

Yes it is and release notes are found on your main MSFS 2024 loading page

Are the windshield effects at Ultra back for all aircraft?  I think the only mention of 'windshield' in the change notes was under the PC-12(?) I think?  Does that mean windshield effects aren't back yet for everything else?

I won't get a chance to install SU2 for a few days yet, so I thought I'd ask 🙂  I've been waiting for the proper windshield effects to be back because they were so nice before it was taken away!

Not sure but if I remember there is a setting that will make airplanes appear if not being seen.  I’ll see if I can find it if not surfaced before, or shot down as urban legend LOL!

Sorry for being so out of touch but do we still have to start outside the aircraft?

From the silence I would guess you still have to walk around before you can fly.

Never really bothered me - you just press Shift+C after you load in. I think there's a separate binding if you use a different keyboard profile?

So keeping on the pitot covers etc. doesn’t affect your flight?

Oh interesting, they added the VSD to the 787X

Now, let us make liveries easier, or add more yourself, jeeze.

Oh fair, sorry. I mostly fly third party planes so that's never affected me.

I thought there was now a shortcut to remove all covers / chocks? Could have sworn one of the SUs added it.

My experience (computer specs in sig).

- Install of update and start of sim through sim. No issues.

- Menus and such. No issues.

- Free flight.  Still a problem loading into.  I picked the default G2 helicopter.  Tried to launch hot on KRNT (Renton, WA just south of Seattle) and it would just hang.  Tried my normal tricks (zoom in and try, zoom out and try), and wouldn't do it.   I suspect the sim is under heavy load as everyone is playing with the new update.  I then went to KEUG (Eugene Oregon) and after 2 tries it worked and I started hot.

- FPS.  Definitely an improvement.  Pre-flight scene at 130 FPS.  For 95% of the flight saw 80-130 FPS.  All under 1,000 feet.  For about 5% of the flight I did drop to 30 FPS and some slight stuttering, but not the ground breaking stuttering to 10 FPS that I've seen before. Just a few flights but encouraging.

- Fidelity.  Max Max style scenes and wonky trees still a big issues around KEUG.  The Oregon Duck football stadium looks worse in 2024 than 2020, can't deny it.  They still have some work to do in areas which didn't get special treatment.

-  I tried KBFI, a Boeing airport in Seattle not far from my house.   Got in after 2 tries so that was good.  An aftermarket airport (drz designs) and happy with the result.  80 FPS on take-off, and back to 80-130 under 1,000 feet. Flew to the city and landed at KRNT in Renton, WA and no stuttering whatsoever. Fidelity looked better, e.g., trees, building, etc., as Seattle area probably got the special treatment when it came to rendering the city.  Quite happy as usual Seattle area has a big hit on performance.  This looked good.

- Still issues with docs and boats being under water.

Just 2 flights in a default roto, but encouraging....

All settings were at max or ultra btw...

QUICK PREFLIGHT is the binding you are thinking of.  Set that up to use the same button or key as TAKE CONTROL OF CHARACTER which moves you inside the plane.
