MSFS 2020 SU16 (released 5 Aug 25)

I still use Map Enhancement where the new Bing Map does eliminate " offline textures" in certain areas. It is still needed in Canada( especially in mountainous areas)  ( Europe and US are generally ok)

Plus i use other maps like Mapbox in northern Canada where there is little or no Bing coverage.

I was on the SU16 beta and noticed a difference between the standard Bing and Map Enhancement New Bing.  Still prefer the Map Enhancement. But to each their own

Yep, Map enhancement is now obsolete.

Not really. It'll depend on how good/bad/realistic/unrealistic is the colouring of the new Bing ground textures after SU16. I'll do the update tomorrow and will check. So far, what I'm reading makes me optimistic.

Anyway, the Map Enhancement Tool still needs an update to be fully compatible with SU16. The latest version v8.3.0 has bugs.

Sounds  you didn't download the content manager updates.

You are correct.  I’ll work on that tomorrow.

I think the seasonal textures in 2024 are just a hue shift or something that's done on a fly, not separate textures. So I doubt it.

If that is indeed the case, then would that not be a simple process to implement in 2020 as well?

Hi all

Can someone please do me a favor and try to load MSFS 2020 from an airport at the to on New Zealand's south Island (NZNS)  since this update I get constant CTD when ever I try to load in to, or fly over the top on the South Island Even when I loaded with safe mode. I appear to be fine at other locations.  As a Kiwi I almost only fly in NZ so this is a real show stopper for me.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Best wishes.

Bob

This is so random because I just happened to fly there last night. I’ve been on SU16 beta and I didn’t have any problems. I didn’t spawn there, though. I flew there from NZQN and did a turn to NZAA, so I’m not sure if your issue lies from trying to start a flight from there. I can’t imagine they broke the actual release compared to the release candidate version though, but I can check on that when I get home in about 2.5 hours.

Hi Thanks for the reply.  Please note, the first flight was from NZAA to NZCH, when I got to the top of the south island I got a CTD.  So I tried it again with the same result.  I then tried to load into NZWN, the sim loaded fine. So I tried to load into NZNS and got a CTD.  Loaded into MSFS 2020 (with safe mode)  and tried NZNS. Again I got a CTD.  So I then started MSFS 2020 in normal mode and jumped to a bunch of airports all over NZ and Australia which all loaded fine then I tried NZKM and NZMK (both small airports  at the top on South island and both times it CTD

My conclusion is that for some reason the new sim update 16 and at least my PC dont like the top on NZ south Island

I did several flights yesterday over this area before the update and all was fine.

Best wishers.

Yes, I tried loading the CS R66 heli at NZNS runway 2, got to the ready to fly screen, the sound cut out, and two seconds later, CTD.  This in 2020 with all available updates installed, including the one for WU XIII NZD. I tried again with the Carenado V35, runway 20R, and same thing. So I guess Asobo has some fixing to do.

Hi Thanks for the reply

I will try and report the issue with Microsoft

It must be a very local point causing the CTD as I just loaded fine into NZPN which is something like 50 K from nelson

Thanks again for the reply.

Stab in the dark but you don't happen to use Bijan's mod by any chance?
I used to have a consistent crash around Matamata specifically and it was because I wasn't quite using the right version of it.

Generally I'd suggest you try with a completely clean community folder, spawn in some areas around the crash area and see if they still persist.

As one datapoint, after updating to SU16 I loaded the Lear35 onto runway 2 at NZNS and had no trouble taking off and climbing up a few thousand feet before terminating the test. I was able to successfully repeat the test with the C414 and the C208.

After the basic SU16 update I had about 20 World Updates to do from the Content Manager. I think New Zealand was one of them, but not sure now, but New Zealand shows as up to date.
