It is very important that you start FSX in a clean configuration before loading 3rd party aircraft. This is actually very important for any complex aircraft. You can create your own simple flight, but here is one that is very basic and should allow you to load any complex aircraft safely.

Another one who sees no difference. Parked at EGKK stand 33 If I load the 737NGX directly I get an average of 16 FPS. If I load the default 737 into the sim, or select the PMDG 747 then the 737NGX, or load the 747 into the sim then the 737NGX I get an average of 16 FPS. The tests are done shutting FSX down each time. Because I get low FPS I was hoping this was some sort of magic fix, sadly it's not, at least not for me. I just gave it a shot. Loaded the 747 at KDFW and pressed fly now. Once it loaded I went into the a/c menu and selected the 738WL. Then when it loaded it was completely dead and had some holes missing in the VC where I could see outside. Guess it didn't work on my rig, but I was already getting good FPS so i'm not going to worry about it. Glad its working for you though. Sean Campbell

I got this too - I've found that I cannot load the NGX after any other aircraft. It has to always be the first aircraft I load into FSX. If I try to load it after any other aircraft (even the C172), I too get huge 'holes' in the NGX's VC and other graphical issues. Like most I am skeptical about this supposed 'load after the 747X' fix, but like hypnotherapy, hey if it works for some, cool! My own experience with the NGX; out of the box it was truly unplayable; 9 FPS on the ground at a quiet airport (my testground): Dar Es Salaam, whether I had autogen loaded or not made no difference, and that was with clear weather. With the same settings in the PMDG MD-11, I would have 60+ FPS. Putting the amazing antilag addon into the FSX root folder, gave me a solid 19-21 FPS and at last I could fly the plane. It is a beautiful and exquisite plane, but people using a 32 bit OS (and/or less than 4GB RAM), and those with a system earlier than a i5 / i7 should buy it with caution, as in my experience it's the potentially the heaviest addon I've ever seen on frame rates and memory. No criticism to PMDG, as it is unprecedented quality, but I admit I am a little frustrated towards the beta testers and some PMDG representatives who for the last year of final preperation of the plane have continued to tell us that the plane is "excellent on frame rates, considering the complexity", and "better than the MD-11". These people clearly all had i7 64bit systems with 6GB+ of RAM.

This statement needs to be qualified. I run 32 bit (XP), which can't handle more than 3 GB anyway, though I have 4GB installed. I get framerates as good as the MD-11X, and I don't have an i5 or i7 (I have an AMD Phenom II X2 565 in my desktop PC). There are far too many other variables at play. Having sufficient GPU memory is also necessary. I have 1GB in my lowly GeForce GT 240 card and it manages just fine. My laptop (Core-2-Duo CPU), which runs the MD-11X perfectly well, only has 256 MB video RAM and can barely run the NGX in VC mode, though it runs at a stuttering 10-11 fps with the 2D panel. You don't need an i5/i7 to run the NGX properly. Kevin Hall

My system: Microsoft Windows XP 32 bit Home Edition, Service Pack 3Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8600 @ 3.33GHz, 4.00GB RAM, Physical Address Extension (So it recognizes 3.00GB of RAM), GeForce GTX 260 896MB memory, Acer 24 Inch monitor at 1920x1200 resolution FS9, and FSX both installed on C disc. I get 25 to 45 FPS in the VC and 50 to 80 exterior depending where im at, no autogen, no water effects, no land or sea traffic, and no wildlife with clear weather. This is without Vsync if i turn Vsync on im limeted to my monitors refresh rate of 60 FPS exterior, so with Vsync i get 45 to 60 exterior and 25 to 35 in VC, however when im not testing settings I use the external FPS limiter, set at 30 FPS and it runs at 30 fine, unless i go to FPS hole area like seattle, where I get about 25 VC, and 30 exterior. I dont mind turning off all the eye candy in FSX becuase the only reason I got it was to fly the NGX! So you really dont need a super computer to run it. Jacob Fuqua

Just tried it out on my system.I got an increase in 6-7 more fps, but I actually had to load the 747-400X into the sim then change to the NGX through the aircraft menu on top.Strange thing is, I get about the same FPS in the VC cockpit using the 747 as I do the 737. Bizarre this would work, but I saw an increase. Will have to experiment further.

Same here AMD Phenom II X4 965 overclocked from stock 3.4ghz to 3.8ghz on XP with 4gb ram but using an ATI card.The NGX runs great {untill it runs out of memory or the gauges lock up that is}Chris

Your pc is at the bare minimum....so no trick in the book or in the whole universe can change the performance of this plane. Not having your PC upgraded for many years eventually bites you.

Update: It appears that this trick is overridden by the IRS alignment if you set it to cold and dark.. I'm starting to believe that the IRS system is leaking memory. Any ideas, PMDG?

I really believe there to be a memory leak somewhere. It is just super weird to me that I can have a pretty constant frame rate, but then it'll drop to 9 fps for a second or two, then back up, then back down, etc etc... I don't have the *best* system, but I get a constant 30-40 FPS with MD-11 and 747x with settings nearly maxed out, but it gets really jumpy for me with the NGX. I have all the settings down to the *bare minimum* and it's still all over the place. And yes, I've done all of the suggested optimization techniques.
