Airbus X Extended Released

touches down on autoland consistently at 200FPM Still harder then it should be

In the real-world Airbus autoland videos I've seen, the aircraft touches down anywhere from less than 100 (or at the point when the vertical speed indicator no longer displays any values) to 300 ft/min.

That's what I've seen as well, but I think 400+FPM is pushing it!!

Thanks

Yes—definitely!

I am having a blast. I am too impatient to read the manuals... so I tried to do things intutively. Ha Ha... One of these days I am going to do the Tutorial from cold and dark.

1) I have a Samsung 7" tablet. The new model I got during Thanks giving for $200... Using the browser I got the MCDU on it...WOW! Very impressive.. simple to do. No complicated networdk config what so ever.. run a exe file..get the IP and Port that it displayes and enter it on the browser..Voila. I can pause and start the sim from a hyperlink on a page..I then hit another hyperlink to get the MCDU. I enter the ILS frequency and the crs. And it tunes my NAV1. I click on the ILS button thingi to identify on the PFD. (Note...My TR1 and GF Nav cannot be used to tune the ILS. This is like the PMDG 747. you have to enter it in the FMC (MCDU here).

I then started with the state ready to taxi and set up the checklist and co pilot... I am getting to love this feature where the nFP is doing all the work.. Ha Ha!.. Since I was not doing everything as per procedure I got into a little trouble.. It did the check list...and at the last step.. TO Config? I kept getting a female voice saying "TO Config" (I was like, Say what? Tea or coffee?) T.O. Config (Take off Config.. I didn't know what to do.. I throttled and took off.

So now for the MCP (or whatever its called here..see I told you.. I didn't read the manual YET). I set the speed and the heading and altitude and hit the Auto Pilot..and it did what was expected. I flew around at 10,000 feet for a while..and with AP on and off.. the Fly by wire is just awesome.. When you turn at std rate turn and leave the pressure on the yoke..it remains in that position until I change control inputs.

Then I got into trouble again.. I was on AP and I changed the altitude to 6000 but there was no lvl change button. Hmm... I tried pulling and pushing the altitude knob.. but that did not work.. I need to get the pdf for this thing and read over once... just for that. but during my turns a here and there suddenly it decided to descend to the 6000. Not sure what I did to change lvl here.

I then turned around and flew towards the airport (Dubai) until the ILS came alive.. I hit the approach button...in spite of being below the GS, it did not follow the GS..it stayed at 6000 and I was losing the GS.. so I over powered the AP and descended below the slope and hit approach again. This time..It got hold of the approach LOC/GS and I then hit the second AP and went into CAT III mode. And yeah..All this time, the checklist and the nFP (Co pllot) were doing the their thing for approach and what not.. In between I was being nagged by the old incomplete ready to taxi checklist prompt "T.O.Config or was it Tea or Coffee?"???? .... Oh well..

It did the CAT III landing pretty good... it did not flair so much as the PMDG 737/747 does/...but it did flair and touch down. And the auto break help slow down and I pulled the throttle back to REV.

Love it.

Now I need to hit the books and do things properly. :P

Just to give you a hint. When you are asked for "Tea or Coffee" :) you are requested to press the T.O config button. By doing so, the aircraft checks that the plane is correctly configured for takeoff. If not, you will get a message what is out of place.

Answer to the other problems can be found from doing the tutorial flight.

Cheers,

Autobrake prematurely disengaging on touchdown

Do you, by any change, have rudder pedals with toe brakes? I had this same problem until I set a correct dead zone for the toe brakes in FSUIPC. Incorrect dead zone caused toe break input to be sent to FSX => disconnecting autobrake too soon.

Wow, I'm pretty impressed by these reactions! I might get this addon beginning of January. I have the original, so I at least have the discount. Thanks for the opinions so far and keep them coming :-)

Thank you all for your comments. They have narrowed my selection down to two: Aerosoft and FSL. This release indeed looks like a big improvement over the Airbus X. However, as I have time, I think I'll hold tight until FSL releases and will decide then.

No just twist grip on Thrustmaster Flight Stick, also I don't calibrate with FSUIPC, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thralni, I know you are a discerning simmer and I really enjoy your reviews and contributions. If you 'dig' an addon, I know it will suit my type of simming ........... so I would really say GET THIS ONE! ..... Believe me no-one hated the Airbus X more than me, but this Extended is just an entirely different ball game - it is honestly superb!

I've just landed and went to switch of my landing lights, strobe and clean up, only to see my F/O realistically doing it for me..

I'm a huge fan of sound-based ambience, and this addon is amazing for that. Throughout your whole flight you will randomly hear your F/O coughing, clearing his throat, rustling papers, getting out charts, etc.

Just brilliant.

My only 'bug' so far is :- N1 values for both TO/GA and Flex values seem too low .... It seems it is not possible to take-off with N1 exceeding 85.5%, which seems a bit low.

Test post - There's a post from Raul_Hernandez that should appear here, but it doesn't, so wanted to see if there is a problem!!

Edit - There it is!!

Thanks

I'm glad someone else has noticed this. It's certainly making my takeoff runs longer, and this combined with the pessimistic fuel planner and seemingly low V1/Vr/V2 speeds is making the plane under-perform quite heavily.

I've just landed and went to switch of my landing lights, strobe and clean up, only to see my F/O realistically doing it for me..

I've read more posts about the F/O doing 'everything' and I was wondering if the F/O really does EVERYTHING...? When you use those checklist, doest that automatically mean everything is done for you...?

I had planned to buy this addon the day it was released but I didn't have the time to do so and now I have to say I am a bit in doubt because of the many (little) bugs... Wrong entries in the MCDU (fuel, weight, altitudes, speeds (everything?!?)), problems with lines on the ND, wrong TOD, no end of descent on the PFD, too hard autolands, problems with throttle... it feels that if I buy the plane now and learn to fly it I will have to relearn a lot of things after SP1... Yes, I know most people are quite happy with the plane but I noticed during the last months that I am getting tired of beta-testing payware. ^_^

Then again, there are nice new interesting things, like that F/O and the sounds and all...

Weird, i didn't find any of those bugs and i already have over 40 hours on it. Maybe people are forgetting to program the MCDU or are used to Boeing/Whatever procedures? I am flying it now out of EGLL and had no issues. The Co-Pilot does help if you want, i don't know if it does everything for you i only used it once for a bit to check what it was about. I rather use checklists until i get used to do things properly (I came from Wilco...).

All in all it's a superb plane for the €40,00 mark and i'm very very happy with it.

The only bugs i've found so far are a grammar error in the "Severe Ice Detected" message. Can't speak for autoland because i never autoland.

Hi Jeroen,

OK this is how I am finding it so far, I have not done a full flight, not got close to it yet because something is not right, but it might be me but 50/50 on that ATM I have a topic open on there forum.

About the FO.

If you set to FO and check-list on, then yes the FO just about does everything, well you get two voices, yours as Captain and you see yourself setting 95% of things automatically and the FO "checking" it. The FO doing all there stuff, the FO doing all there work is fine as that's how it should be. I don't like my jobs being done for me and I will look to change that. I am sure that's not a problem. Unless it stops the FO doing there jobs at the same time then it will be.

@Nuno

I entered a runway as I was sure it would be the one I would be landing at, but it turned out it was wrong, for the life of me I could not delete the STAR and runway and enter a new one, it's very easy in the NGX but could not find a way in the bus, do you know a way?

Hi david

i'm having a problem finding out how the FO is activated.does he just do his stuff or does he need to be switched on??the Shift+4 key isn't bringing up the checklists info page(could be EZDOK)so i can't check .I'm already asking over at aerosoft, but just saw that you mentioned the FO.hope you don't mind me jumping in.

I deactivated EZDOK but still can't bring up the checklists window.

thanks
