October 7, 201312 yr You've flown the virtual airliner 100 times now, is the checklist burned into your brain now? I'm finding I tend to ignore the checks and go right to the things in the VC that actually need manipulating.
October 7, 201312 yr I never do it in the real world (just GA for me) and I TRY real hard not to do it in the sim. Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
October 7, 201312 yr What good is a checklist if you don't use it? regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
October 8, 201312 yr I have to admit that after a few flights I tend to skip a few checks ( eg testing fire warning systems) and concentrate on getting the bird up into to the air as quickly as possible. Especially if flying on VATSIM (which accounts for most of my flights) when I want to complete a flight before the controllers start signing off. After a couple of dozen flights, the procedures become routine and the checklist is rarely referred to though I occasionally do a flight fully by the book just to keep my conscience clear. October 8, 201312 yr For the CS757, there was a video or tutorial somewhere that stated for the OHD panel, you can just start in upper left by IRS and move your way down along the left column, then move to middle column and work your way down and finally, the far right column. That was for preflight. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
October 8, 201312 yr For GA: I hardly ever even use checklists, unless the addon really requires this (e.g. A2A planes) - that's just jumping into the cockpit an dstart flying. For airliner flying I am more serious, and I do all the necessary steps; however I have so many planes and only so little time for flight simming that I do not know any cheklists by heart. On the other hand, that isn't really a problem, because this ensures the plane works as it should, and there will not be any issues due to a missing checklist item. Florian
October 8, 201312 yr I do flows by memory, but i ALWAYS follow the checklists. It's not like this hobby is a game, a flight not using checklists would be a horribly unrealistic one. vatsim s3

October 8, 201312 yr ... I'm finding I tend to ignore the checks and go right to the things in the VC that actually need manipulating. This is me also - While intially I find the systems depth interesting, soon after I learn what items must absolutely be done for the aircraft to function and then stick strictly with those (minus FMC setup for navigation), so I can get to the "flying" - this always make me wonder if I ever broke down and got a PMDG Boeing if it would be a waste of money for me. I have the Q400, which most folks generally equate to the NGX in terms of complexity, and I have also gotten to the point where I know what must be done to get going, and since I basically fly it with the same load, and I can estimate the fuel required and V-speeds needed in my head, so I generally just "get in and go" with this plane as well...
October 8, 201312 yr I follow checklists with artistic license. No need to check the CVR or any gear locking pins if there's no consequences. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
October 8, 201312 yr i find the short turn state in the NGX really helps a lot because a lot of things that need to be checked / set are already done making setup a lot faster focusing on the FMC
October 8, 201312 yr When I first fly a type I'll start cold and dark and follow the checklists carefully as it helps to get to know the aircraft and the systems. Once I'm familiar with it I'll start "further down" the checklist knowing that everything else was ok when I loaded it. And I'll do it pretty much by memory as I only fly 2 or 3 types at a time and and it is a much shorter checklist than the full cold and dark.
October 8, 201312 yr Never bother with checklists in FSX, except perhaps the fist time I'm firing up a new addon plane if I can't get it started by simply guessing. It's just a game after all. Rolf Lindbom

October 8, 201312 yr Same I barely touch checklists. Here's why: A lot of them are taken from RW planes that have everything modeled. Some are direct scans of the real plane and half the items don't pertain to FS. I often fly small piston singles - the checklists are generally the same so I just do that. I will give a shoutout to Flight1 and Realair for their King air and Duke 2.0 releases, respectively. They have pretty decent "made for FSX" or "works in FSX" checklists. Finally it's really up to the user to decide how real they want it to be. You might call yourself ultra-realistic yet you forget you sit in front of a computer screen LOL.
