Goodbye FSX........Hello X Plane

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I haven't had many posts in here or anywhere actually but for me I am done with FSX, it's Uninstalled I am off to X Plane, it has to be done, I have my reasons of course, been into this hobby of ours since FS98 and spent lots of money on it but it's time to move on, been looking and flying it for a while now, bigtime difference. I feel better for writing something in here for sure. Thanks everyone.

Cheers

Have fun. I use them both - still FSX the majority of the time.

Can understand your move, I did the same a couple of days ago but, as Ryan says, the best would be to keep both. In a year or so the picture will be clear enough to make a definitive choice.

Don't get me wrong, but posting stuff like this, is equal to posting "I'm done with Manchester United, I'm off to Chelsea" on Man Utd forum.

We also all know that FSX has lot of flaws, but when you tweak it right, and fly with plenty of addons, it is the most rewarding sim out there. X-Plane is simply not good enough for me in its current state, and I also have better FPS in FSX.

Flew last night my old and almost forgotten A2A Stratocruiser + Captain Of The Ship, and the immersion and realism was apsolutely amazing. I can't find that in X-Plane, with that unbeliavable detail, crisp and realistic sounds, crew communication, PAX simulation...

Sc*ew better flight physics in X-Plane, when it don't have most cruicial ingredient - IMMERSION .

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Did you need the disk space? Why not have them both? It's not a marriage :)

Takes so long to get a FSX install looking how I want it that I'd don't think I could actually bring myself to remove it!

I won't be drawn into this repetitive debate.  However my YouTube channel (see link below my sig) has videos of BOTH X-Plane and FSX.  I suggest you watch one or two of each, then see which one looks better to YOU.

The X-Plane setup has a full-blown glass cockpit and triple monitors with triple PCs driving the displays.  The frames levels are astounding.

I think FSX has some edge in scenery (globally), but on an overall basis, both platforms can really produce stunning graphics.

On my setup the XPlane has become the 'only' sim, though FSX is still installed.

As has been said innumerable times, immersion is in the cockpit of the beholder!

Couldn't agree more! Seems to me like some people treat their sim platforms a little too much like a wife or significant other.

I use both  But my time between them is usually about 75/25 (FSX/XPX) mostly for reasons already stated above. That will probably change in future though to more like 50/50 or even 40/60.

We'll be here for when you come back!!!

Personally I got way to much invested in FSX, can't leave it if I wanted to,

But then, why would I want to leave it?

I leave FSX every night. Sometimes kicking and screaming. I've had nearly every release of X-Plane since v3. I am liking it more and more, but for me it is not a comparison game between the two. It's more like having more than one way to express my passion for aviation. Plus there are a few products that are pending release which = more $$$ invested.

Neither XPX or FSX are mutually exclusive relationships. If they were then I guess I'd be cheating on both with P3DV2  :)

All have their merits.

Hard drives are cheap.

I say this, having FSX, P3Dv2, FS9, Flight, XPX demo, DCS World, and FlightGear all concurrently installed.

Why limit oneself to one sim?
