FSX Fiber Accelerator?

Featured Replies

Same question a Byran - what then  should verticle sync be set to?

Thanks.

I think this would be perfect if there was an option to set a minimum for the terrain engine, and keyboard shortcuts to change the minimum frame rate on the fly with no need to switch to the FA app window

just my 2 cents

I was thinking the same thing when I was trying it, especially the keyboard shortcut to adjust the minimum frame rate.

Do you or anyone else know, if you had Nvidia inspector set to 1/2 refresh rate, and change it to "OFF", do you have to reboot FSX to effect this change?

And, which is it, should refresh rate be set to "ON" or "OFF" for FA to work properly?

I find I have to restart FSX for changes in NI to take effect.  I just set the Vsync to Force On and Standard for to use with this.  Works well for me that way.

I did several tests with half refresh rate ON / OFF and in my case I did not have any change. For me it is the same. Again I put it in ON as I always had.

I have 3 monitors that I use Nvidia Surround (5760x1080), I do not know if this is why I do not notice changes.

I thought this would be great. When I use my 3 full screens, I can not see that happening with bars FA. With the option of keyboard shortcuts, change could make the flight.

I think also that FA is not to have it always active, (In Easy-saving scenarios, FA does nothing for me, and I think it is ruining my landscapes because they do not tend to sacrifice), rather I think it would be nice being able to turn ON at times this one is falling short of FPS (Entering in a rainstorm and heavy black clouds that leave you with 10FPS), with a botton from the cab to activate the FA (As a kind of turbo).

This would be great.

Thanks guys,  I just bought it and am now experimenting with different settings and was totally unsure on Vertical Sync setting.

I found that I did get modest improvement and a smoother flight upon landing.  Occasionally I do get some blurring as well, not sure what if anything I can do about that.

Hi Richard,

Agree tube drivers using complex aircraft and big payware airports is very demanding on any system. Until Nvidia get their head out of the sand and re start looking at specific drivers for the flight sim community we will have stutters FSX or P3d.

Unfortunately they seems to just progress on a any new game and not on improving older sims.

Very close to now switching to P3d when the next version comes out maybe, but as a tube liner driver I need to know that it will work and be able to port over all my aircraft and airports with out too much hassle.....and run as well as FSX.

Cheers

FSX is more CPU bound than GPU bound. Changes to the nVidia drivers won't do *that* much.

What's worse, is that FSX is limited by DX9 routines. I found switching to DX10 preview mode helped a LOT - by shifting a lot of CPU resources to the GFX card. It certainly helped with OOMs. Unfortunately, the main component of making that switch (Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer) is currently unavailabe, but I suspect/hope it will be back soon.

I just purchased Fiber Accelerator after running more trials with the demo.  On Runway 34 at KSEA, with Active Sky Next, Ultimate Traffic 2 and Manfred Jahn's DC-3 the frame rate using FRAPS was 5.792 without FA, and 7.559 with FA, averaged over 2 minutes per test, for an increase of 31%.  I am using DX10 in preview mode rather than DX9 as posted earlier.  The frame rate in FSX is set to 30.  Tried values of lower frame rate per second from 11 to 30 in FA.  Didn't see much difference, and the target frame rate set went to unlimited in all cases.  Higher frame rates can be achieved, but I didn't want to sacrifice my full screen 3-monitor primary display and full screen fourth monitor front view.  (It is too bad that Steve's DX10 fixer program is no longer available.)  The VAS value for FA is only 237,072K using Process Explorer, which is very good.  Encountered no OOM issues.  I used four of my five hours in testing before paying $31.98 to buy it from SimShack.

My PC is an Alienware i7-920 OC to 3.2 GHz, as mentioned earlier.

No, it is simply the value i used when I had Poolsize=20000000. I used to try with and without Pools to see which I preferred -- without I get better performance at the price of some flashing so I eventually settled on without. I just tend to leave some things, sometimes commented out with ';' if necessary,  in in case i want to change back.

Pete, to eliminate flashings when Bufferpools=0 you need to set water to (first) High. With Bufferpools 0 the performance is Ok with it.

Yes first it seems cool to go to DX10 with steves app. But there are important airports and planes which does not work in DX10. I do not see a workaround. Yes I know this is for another topic... Cheers Tom

But there are important airports and planes

Every plane and airport works fine for me with the fixer. And I have a very large collection. You must have something wrong in your set up ? If you need any help Tom, just holler. Back on topic :)

I have tried that in the past but it did impact performance at dense airports like EGLL quite severely. It seems to have an impact even when there's no water in sight, which is weird. Maybe I'll try it again with FA running.

[LATER]

No. it's bad. With Water effects = 3 (my normal setting), my test scenario at EGLL gives frame rates 16-30 with FS, depending which way I look, and smooth. With Water effects only increased to 4 I get 2-12 with terrible jerks and even pauses.

I prefer better performance with the occasional flash -- they aren't frequent in any case.

Just  installed the Demo mode to see whats all the fuss was about  this program to see if it would make any differance on my pc. Just did a quick test  went to  Orbox ymml  which was always a killer fps  for me so usually I don't  fly  there to often :( .   Used the ngx as my test Aircraft   with asn   running  with ut2  at 70 percent, using  rex4  textures at 2048 .   Loaded the sim at ymml at the gate without  the tool running I was just getting 8  to 9 fps using  the vc  view of  course.   Started  the tool   and  the fps  jumped from 8  to 13  fps  even when panning  around  it  stayed  around that mark.  Hant  done  a test  flight yet  but  it looks promising  so far

Not sure why everyone is complaining about the demo time, they clearly state in the demo manual that you should get everything ready BEFORE launching fiber accelerator, so basically load it when you're ready to taxi or take off! Anyway. I think its great that they offer this demo as most devs don't.. Anyway.  I tried the demo myself and had some improvement in frames, I tested using the PMDG 777 and London Heathrow by UK2000, I saw an increase in FPS on final approach to Heathrow of around 3 or 4 fps, but noticed the scenery outside the airport was going blurry, normally when I land at Heathrow in the PMDG 777 I get an out of memory error when taxiing. Normally you get the windows ding noise a few times then the message window pops up saying out of memory you click ok and FSX exits. With Fibre accelerator, I still got the Windows 'dings' but no pop up and FSX stayed running, still deciding whether to buy it based on this, but at least it showed improvement over my normal set up. Perhaps some hardware upgrades combined with this software would be a good way to go?

A word of warning. Since trying this software I have not been able to get my frame rates back to where they was. I'm not saying it is this program, it might be a coincidence. I thought it was OK, but everytime I try since, I am loosing around 3 FPS. I have yet to fine out where it makes the changed.

Hi out there, I had the same problem after FA Demo worked well ou of the box. Then I got lower framerates as I had before. So I deinstalled FA. Frames reminds worth. So I cleaned registry of all entries cobcerning FA. The I deibstalled the nvidia display driver (are FA injets here?) and cleaned all Nvidia Driver entries with Display Driver Uninstaller. After this procedure I installed the Driver Geforce 332.21 (this worked well for me - here are some suggestions which is the best for FSX and my GTX580) After this procedure I was back at my old framerates without any blurries. Maybe the developpers can tell us a bit more - cause I want to use what I bought for the ral heavy airports but not if it slow down FSX overall.

Maybe the transition from the demo to the updated app caused a problem (even I deinstalled the demo before installing the updated app)

Kind Regards Tom

Exactly! even park at any gate when you start the program you will see the higher frame rate. Read the manual first, start the sim, start FA.  no biggy. I tested it, liked it, bought it.

For me like 2 minutes was enough, when I saw the increase in frames that was it...

Start 1. Sim first then FA.

Closing  Sim first then FA last.

The ticket support works great, I had a problem with my joystick, they responded in less than 24 hours and problem solved, it was a corrupted download...
