The proble3m is

Love it!

So that makes me a little worried that other files is not updated as well. For instance shadow.fx is dated 11.07.14. Terrain.fx is dated 11.07.14 and water.fx is dated 05.08.14

Am also wondering about this. I had to DELETE my old modified cloud.fx file and run the patch again to install a new one.

So why is the patch not updating files that have not been modified?

Me thinks a full reinstall is required?

I would conjecture the "calculating space requirements" step which takes an eternity is checking file date/time/size stamps. But you're right - LM should improve their patch process to update/overwrite core files automatically (especially ones that aren't cfg or settings).

So can you guys help with the dates and time for the updated patchfiles? Is it only in the shader folder the updates is regarding 2.3 to 2.4?? I could then check with my reinstalled 2.4 on top of a 2.3 folder. Maybe we can have a shaderfolder to share for the 2.4?

Thanks for posting that penz - similar dates in my folder also.

Are you getting the weird vertical clouds? And how are your terrain shadows? Fixed?

This is what I'm seeing with any significant weather. Vertical slivers of cloud. If you view from the cockpit they have no width. They look slightly better from this angle but not right.

Yeah, I have seen the "new clouds" too.

Haven't tried terrain shadows yet, sorry.

Seeing a lot of these vertical cloud formations I have never seen before - I am running ASN real weather when I see this - need to test without

The more that I have looked at the "vertical clouds", the more that I think that they are isolated cloud sprites (the "layers" that make up a cloud and give it volume) that have been rotated 90 degrees. When one views them edge on, you see a collection of adjacent but disconnected sprites with virtually no thickness. I have noticed these before version 2.4 and at least one person has posted here that they have seen the same bug in FSX, but I don't recall ever seeing it anywhere except P3d.

If you follow Rob's directions (and some of that is overly detailed and may not apply to your setup at all), the 2.4 patch works without issues. But the improvements  in 2.4 must be "under the hood", because I sure didn't see any. I'd say that if you look over the 2.4 release notes and you don't experience any of the issues that were fixed in 2.4, you probably shouldn't bother. Of course, you are setting yourself up for a complete 2.3 uninstall and full install if there is a version 2.5. I have a feeling that with a number of people pointing out the "vertical cloud" issue in 2.4, there will be some kind of statement about that from the LM team. It's either caused by directly by version 2.4 or by an incompatible add-on.

BTW, does everyone realize that ASN alters the shader source code in SwarmCloud.fx?

Actually build 5386 for v2.4 doesn't do that.

EDIT: I was wrong, if you uncheck "Cloud pop fix" in settings it still does, sorry.

That's at 0.3 zoom.

What's it like at zoom 1.0 which is much more realistic for spot view?

So why is the patch not updating files that have not been modified?

If nothing has changed then no new file is needed. Easy.
