October 1, 201411 yr And it would be very interesting to see if there is any correlation between those suffering microstutters and having too much settings set to ultra  ...and those who are just seeing the long frames due to a mismatch in sim FPS and monitor refresh. What about the long pauses when detailed airports first come into view - not a problem for me and something we have to live with. I'm pretty sure this happened in FSX too and is much more of a distraction than the odd microstutter. I do see small stutters occasionally in P3D but nothing worse than FSX - I just live with it - nothing is or ever will be perfect. Daz
October 1, 201411 yr A lot of people just seem to look for microstutters. Why not just fly and accept an occasional stutter? Makes life a lot easier. Would it be nice to have a sim which is perfectly smooth? Yes, but this will never happen, because as soon as there is more headroom from newer CPUs and GPUs there will be more eyecandy introduced which again leads to stutters. Either turn down your settings or accept a stutter here and there. But the most important part is: Try to relax and enjoy and not look for flaws with every update... October 1, 201411 yr and one minute later "boohoo". Mitch you should be more balanced. -------------------------------------------- 'boohoo' is your choice of a description It does not describe what I stated. I ran this version for 20 hours, and found it not to my requirements. I have reverted back to a prior version. End of statement.. Nothing er..'bi-polar' about this matter...
October 1, 201411 yr FS9. Yes folks, FS9. P3D 1.4 with 1/2 refresh rate, the top. -------------------------------------------- 'boohoo' is your choice of a description It does not describe what I stated. I ran this version for 20 hours, and found it not to my requirements. I have reverted back to a prior version. End of statement.. Nothing er..'bi-polar' about this matter... This version has again problems with clouds performance.
October 1, 201411 yr And it would be very interesting to see if there is any correlation between those suffering microstutters and having too much settings set to ultra  Yea, there is something odd about the disparity around performance and stutters. 2.4 is running great for me and now with ASN working the skies are improved. I am beyond curious about the setups of other's systems and if we all are seeing the same thing but have only opinions that differ. Whatever, I have been and will continue to enjoy P3D 2x. i7-9700K, MSI Z370, PNY 4070 Super, GTX 750Ti, 32GB GSkill, 43" curved Samsung, 32" BenQ, 11" LED, RealSImGear GTN750, Win10, P3DV5.4/P3DV6 and MSFS, several GoFlight modules, Saitek radio, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Virtual Fly TQ6.
October 1, 201411 yr Well, the whole microstutters thing is a big deal for me. I have spent eons getting FSX to where it is now, and to be honest, apart from the very heavy scenarios at some of the big hubs in the NGX, my FSX is as smooth as a baby's bot bot! I will, no doubt like others, make a return to P3D, but I'm in no hurry and will wait for the right moment. Interesting what was said earlier about hyperthreading though. I have the SB2500 without hyperthreading (K?) so it isn't an option for me to try with or without. October 1, 201411 yr And it would be very interesting to see if there is any correlation between those suffering microstutters and having too much settings set to ultra  It is not a performance issue related to settings. Matt Wilson
October 1, 201411 yr Hi everyone Ok .. well I have patched from 2.3 to 2.4 ..... but now I am seeing some dreadful 'Shimmering' when I am approaching Airports ...... I have imported my settings from 2.3 so no change there and I certainly was not getting this awful effect then! I am pretty sure it is to do with Anistropic filtering but I have that set to 16x to try and eliminate it .... but sadly to no avail Has anyone else seen this issue Just for the record I am using 3rd Party Airports from Aerosoft etc etc .... but as I say .. I didn't have this issue in v2.3 Any pointers would be greatly received If I can't solve it then its going to have to be sadly a full re-install of 2.3 Paul
October 1, 201411 yr Ok .. well I have patched from 2.3 to 2.4 ..... but now I am seeing some dreadful 'Shimmering' when I am approaching Airports ...... Are you using any configuration adjustments via nVidia Inspector? I believe some have reported that the 2.3->2.4 process may have either added a new entry for Prepar3D in the nVidia Inspector, or otherwise reset the values back to defaults. Perhaps revisiting any nVidia Inspector settings is needed to make sure all is well.
October 1, 201411 yr Hello I haven't used NVidia Inspector at all in any version because I have been so happy with the picture quality and smoothness .... I did just try turning on Anistropic filtering x 16 within the NVidia control manager and turning it off in the sim but it looks just as bad I have also noticed that the cloud shadows on the ground are blocky and shimmering too Hmmmmmmm
October 1, 201411 yr I have also noticed that the cloud shadows on the ground are blocky and shimmering too This has been reported before as well. I seriously don't know what to do. I've already uninstalled 2.3 and I have the 2.4 installer ready to be used, but all those issue reports are putting me off. Lockheed Martin better start working on 2.5 right now, but I haven't seen any mention of a new version in the 2.4 article unlike previous updates, and that's worrying me a little.
October 1, 201411 yr I seriously don't know what to do Might be opportune to try out (the free) DCS World.
