2.3 -> 2.4 update report

Featured Replies

For anyone who didn't delete their modified cloud.fx file.....I removed mine and re-ran the patch. All updated now. Phew!

Hi,

Did you notice any difference in p3d performance or appearance/delivery of the clouds before and after?

I have not changed mine and it seems to be working fine and the clouds look awesome.

I did have the HDE clouds installed, I wonder if the could files themselves got replaced?

Man, I got this version switching down pat...just like Rob, LOL!

I'm back in the saddle with, once more...a gorgeous sky...clear ground textures that you get from v2.3...and the world is alright, once more, lol

Ah..life is good....again. :P

"Ok...I'm about a thimble width...away from throwing v2.4 so far out the window...I won't be able to guess where it lands...."....

I simply CAN'T STAND, the sky in v2.4...it looks elongated, extruded, pulled...it looks HORRIBLE!

Nothing of this kind of visual was in v2.3.  The sky looked normal.  I don't know what is happening with this version, but if I have to give up Terrain Textures, to get a sky that looks real...and not like it's gone onto the torture rack...then, it is what it is....

I'd say that v2.4 is a serious BUST....no matter if you get it working or not...

Here is the v2.4 sky out the cockpit window. Even if you are in SPOT view...you still get this stretched, elongated horizon (like the clouds are seen in a tunnel)...and cloudscape...simply horrible....

Look how the clouds are pulled..distorted..and these clouds are from REX4 for goodness sakes!  They look fabulous in v2.3    I'd say that this has got to be the worst sky visual, I have ever seen to date, in any flight sim.  Totally under-whelmed.  LM..what the heck did you guys do!?!??!?

All I can say, is thank gawd, for system image backups....tomorrow...a happy and GOOD LOOKING v2.3 baby....v2.4..."bye-bye".....

Will not get 2.4 then.

I applied the cloud fix to 2.3 and removed it as soon as I saw the clouds

I was suspecting this will happen in 2.4.

We should have a slider for clud sizes so everyone can get what they want.

In my system 2.3 clouds ran pretty smooth.

Only one issue of note for me and v2.4.... and it has to do with the (understandably unsupported) Level-D 767.

Although she worked just fine on my Win7 / P3D v2.3 installation, the 767 has some difficulties with v2.4 right now.

I think it's more to do with FSUIPC, actually - or at least I HOPE it is... running the 767 with my originally installed FSUIPC v4.936, she would load but the panel woundn't function outside of the basic flightsim controls. Updating to 4.936C, the 767 will crash the sim when it tries to load in. This makes me think/hope that a new v2.4 aware build of FSUIPC will cure these ills, but I'll have to wait for Peter Dowson to wrap up his vacation and put some time on a new build in a week or so.

Outside of that, all seems satisfactory so far with v2.4 for me...

With terrain shadows on, does anyone notice slight black lines flickering every once in a while? They seem to happen near the bottom edges of the cockpit window. I am flying the Q400 fwiw. I think turning terrain shadows off might fix it but I would have to double check.

I'm seeing a slight but constant flickering in both terrain shadows and in vegetation shadows.  I had to turn veg shadows off so almost the entire ground area isn't flickering.

FSUIPC Seem to make P3d crash can someone confirm

Nope...what happened, was that I had v2.3 associated with a profile I created called: P3D

Thanks for the further information. I got it now.

Why changing your mind and mood so quick? First "hurray" and one minute later "boohoo". Mitch you should be more balanced.

Well I have thrown the towel in and requested refund from LM

Just cannot spend any more time with it the scenery micro stutters are still, there and just ruin it fom me....

It is great sim platform and will be the way forwards that I am sure but not for me at this time LM need to address the hybridised window issue so it works with the graphics card vendors...

Will watch with interest but not yet my time

Happy flying all

I upgraded via the patch per Rob's instructions and all is excellent.  Seems to be running smoother than 2.3, which was very smooth for me anyway.  I have everything (except traffic) all the way to the right with Orbx and Captain Sim aircraft and I still have quite a bit of headroom.  In fact, flying in Portland, Oregon is now extremely smooth, where before it was a bit choppy.  Will have to try Anchorage soon.  That was a bit of a choppy location too.  All in all, I am very impressed.

My sentiments also, and while I feel happy that so many are getting such enjoyment from the sim, I remain extremely frustrated. All I hear about with each version is how all the eye candy has been improved. I have P3D uninstalled, and it will sadly remain so, until such time I can hear people reporting that all the microstutters that have been prevalent for so many, have been eradicated.

It would be very interesting to see if there is any correlation between those suffering microstutters and having hyper threading active/inactive.

I agree.  Not being nasty ... perhaps bipolar?

And it would be very interesting to see if there is any correlation between those suffering microstutters and having too much settings set to ultra
