2.3 -> 2.4 update report

Agree,

But I have tried it ....it is not for me at this time the hybridised window system just causes massive scenery stutters..and this is something I am not willing to put up with.

If this software is to go forwards from FSX this should be better in performance not worse however pretty it looks.....agree differs from system to system..

It is a good sim it does look nice but when you have every thing turned to min and all AG off  and the scenery still lags micro stutters or stutter even with 30 fps or what ever people want to call it, it ruins the experience.  I run a good system...and have checked every part to ensure of any outside influence..on performance

I am pleased it works for the majority but for some of us it does not or should I say it is disappointing...well that's life ...so it is shelved for me refund requested...of course will monitor and may come back if things improve which I am sure they will...

All the best

As Vic has said, and as we all know, every system is different. So equally, there are some like myself who enjoy, more or less, a pretty well behaved FSX. So after years of getting myself to this place and after spending approximately £2000 in software, then P3D needs to be something very special, and my experience so far has been anything but 'something special.'

I have noticed no difference between 2.3 and 2.4. BTW, the vertical cloud anomaly has been around with ASN and P3d in versions prior to 2.4. It doesn't show up that often.

Sorry, but this is not entirely true.

In 2.3, the vertical clouds were an exception, in 2.4 they ALWAYS appear in bad weather conditions, often not one but many.

And, every time they appear, there are stutter of the simulator.

It is not dependent from ASN, is a problem of P3D 2.4.

I did a full install of 2.4 (for various reasons) and didn't have much time to actually fly but I noticed one thing I never really noticed before and I think it must be me so I was wondering if you also noticed this: when sitting on the tarmac I got really beautiful cloud shadows passing over me. I have of course seen cloud shadows but up to now they seemed rather static. This time however they slowly passed over me, alternating shadow and sunlight, and it was awesome. The shadows themselves looked great too. I am sure I simply didn't see this before because of the weather or something like that but I really had a WOW moment!

Tomorrow (not tonight, unfortunately) I will do my first actual flight with the Airbus 318 and see if performance with ASN and clouds at max is as it was before or not.

BTW I also didn't install FTX Global yet: I plan on waiting for the update. With the Airbus it isn't that important anyway.

Yes great isn't?

Been happening for awhile though.

You have to be in the right place and the wind has to be great enough to move those clouds at an noticeable rate

It does seem more common, but it is definitely not a new issue with 2.4.

Re: the cloud issue, I believe Tim from REX had mentioned somewhere that another texture update was in the works to fix some compatibility with 2.4...

anybody who know what other files have been updated in 2.4. ? I did a full reinstall but did not delete the main folder of 2.3 and i noticed after installation of 2.4 that my cloud.fx file was not up to date.

So that makes me a little worried that other files is not updated as well. For instance shadow.fx is dated 11.07.14. Terrain.fx is dated 11.07.14 and water.fx is dated 05.08.14

I dont recall if ShaderHLSL gets deleted during a uninstall but i dont think so.

Thanks

I agree. FSX works better for me so far. Much more smooth and visually even prettier thanks to excellent AA, and graphical enhancements like ENB and Shade. Take a look here for example:

http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/84691-enjoying-the-737-ngx-around-new-zealand/

I dont get P3D to look that pretty.

The stutters and poor AA kills the immersion. And high AA through NI kills the frames. And bear in mind I am running a 2000 EUR new computer with Haswell OC and GTX 780. With this kind of system I dont think it is unfair to expect a P3D to perform great out of the box with "medium" settings and no advanced addons.

I am however supporting P3D having bought the software and I am optimistic it will get better in time.

Because you obviously updated the cloud.fx, so the installer let it untouched.

I wonder why, Rockliffe?  I have a 5 year old system, with a two year old GTX680 2GB, and have 30+ FPS results with most sliders bending to the right...and great visuals....with everything that has been ported over from ORBX ,for triple-install, and a few (I got tired of wating...KORS, etc) that haven't.  I'm running one version back from the most current P3D.....and all is great.  I hope you reconsider...because, even when I do still fire up FSX, there are features...and visuals...that just can NOT be reproduced, with the FSX engine.  My P.O. in play...

Cheers,

Mitch

Hi Mitch

We could need some kind of benchmark with all our setups. Can you try Vancouver locked 30 and unlocked and se if you can get it relativ steady using something like the A36 or majestic DASH8 if you have it? FTX for the rest off course

Thanks Michael

One also has to take in consideration ones operating system and how it is maintained and how stable it is - lot more to think about than just your flightsim program for all to go well

The proble3m is that no matter how similar the systems are, there is no way they will be identical and, for some, there is SOMETHING that interferes with P3D.

My point is, until you find that SOMETHING, P3D will not work for you. I accept that and work at finding those glitches that affect P3D. Removing them one by one results in a great flight experience.

Given that I was a programmer and probably know my way around the innards of a system better than many simmers so that helps but don't give up, the reward is worth it.
