People have all reason to be excited, but, I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Personally, I think it looks horrible. Look at the PAPI lights for instance - they are still huge, gloomy and out of proportion on the approach pictures.

What a rough bunch of negative posts.  This is flight school which needs to be simplified and not extravagant as most would know it with weather, AI, ATC, etc. The target market, those new to flight s

Sorry, but you and others here seem to operate with a binary logic. Basically you are reducing the field of options to a either...OR matter.  If DTG Flight Simulator will be considered acceptably good

Agree,

Aircraft looks good, but overall it`s just a customized FSX.

Look at these awful coastlines. In terms of graphics and optics still MSFlight was/is the most advanced.

Dovetail is improving, but they have a looong way to go.

I hope in the end we get more than an optimized FSX.

If they want to attract new customers they need to improve graphics a lot!

If they want to take over FSX/P3D customers they need to improve the rest under the hood a lot!.

To me it looks great.

Yes it's still MSFS after all, flight dynamics and visuals wise, but in some aspects, I'm glad it is, because as much as I like X-Plane 10 too, there are still aspects that I prefer in MSFS, like the full World coverage for only 11 GB disk, including season textures, some aspects of weather modeling - visual mostly.

It's a step towards an even better product that I hope DTG Flight sim will be. And, it's ** only ** $15,00 !!!

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Some parts look very nice such as the planes, and the atmospheric scattering and lighting. However, I think some quick wins could have been added like improved rain/snow shaders so we don't feel we are travelling at light speed, HD runway textures and not the pixelated default ones (could they not have got these off Orbx?), and an upgrade to the textures of the default airport buildings would really help. The airport buildings look dreadfully dreary and really show their age graphically. Coastline blending would have helped too. As it stands we have nice FTX Global textures, maybe new water (can't tell from the screenies) but where the two meet it looks pretty rough still.

Guys, it looks like preview copies are coming out for some. Mutleys hanger has some cracking shots from flight school. Take a look.

I can confirm that yesterday we sent out around twenty preview copies of DTG Flight School to a selection of flight sim journalist, the press and YouTubers.

One good thing I can see from my point of view is that DTG and ORBX are based in the UK, which means us Europeans might actually see some more bias towards scenery and rules over this side of the pond  . There is a pretty big community here, especially in Germany.

One thing I don't like about X-Plane (I know this isn't FSX) is the fact that everything defaults to the US (including the Squawk code, rules, runway markings etc). They also ignore the rest of the world when it comes to autogen (e.g. Even more US buildings to come in 10.50 whilst Europe or Australia still don't have any). Nothing beats flying over Spain and seeing colonial houses and trailer parks   :Tounge: . I have nothing against US firms but I just wish that some would realise there is a big world outside of the US ;-)

Yes very true.

I love the idea of a dedicated Flying Sim "Flight School" and very much looking forward to it.

Lol...I have already googled and searched on YouTube for DTG Flight School to filter the past 24 hours to see who else might have post images or videos. So far only Mutley's Hangar! Darn this waiting  :fool:

This really makes a good feeling. While it reserves a few critical points the reviewer seems to be quite amazed.

Moreover, I noticed a simconnect.dll in the folder which would potentially open the possibility to use some of our beloved simconnect-based addons even in Flight School... Okay, perhaps I am dreaming here, but this would be really great!

Kind regards, Michael

The 'under the hood' stuff may be better, but the basic visuals are extremely bad is my 2c. Given that it's 2016, the cloud and rain visuals look like they did 10 years ago, with different shading, Based purely on those pictures alone, I'm quite unimpressed. But it may be enough to get the kids onboard.

Interesting that the addon scenery folder is there. It makes me think that some scenery addons would work unless they've been purposely disabled (Which seems likely, as they've mentioned this several times)

Yes,  plenty of future options there i think.   So much stuff to tinker with    Happy days

Hi everyone, just a quick thing of note.

The preview versions that we sent out are just that, previews. They are not a final build of DTG Flight School. As such the file structure is currently set out for development, not release. Long story short, expect some changes in the way the sim is installed upon release compare to what you see now.
