November 1, 20205 yr Commercial Member Ah the internet, both the best and the worst human invention 😁
November 1, 20205 yr There's a simple enough solution: Anyone who has heard that there is an unpleasant environment on any forum or other intertron medium, go there and observe for yourself; if you find it to be so, leave and don't go there again, or if not, stay and enjoy. Avsim has some pretty strict rules on what you can and cannot post, and I don't always like or agree with those rules, but generally speaking they serve to keep it quite a jolly place, so contrary to what might be a popular opinion/perception elsewhere, personally I find Avsim to be one of the more pleasant flight sim forums to visit. November 1, 20205 yr Toxic isn't the right word. Much too strong a word. I would say too intense at times. I would say that the intensity level is a little too high at times. I love the cliche of "preaching to the choir". I think people want to make their voices heard, and that's great... up to a point. It gets to the point where the same dozen posters are copy/pasting the same negative stuff in every thread, leading to most good discussions getting locked. I cringed when Asobo mentioned an Avsim user in their update. People see this place as their open mic direct to the developers, and to my knowledge, that's just not really true. Sure, they obviously must peek around here from time to time, but I think most of the interactions happen on their official forums. Being "high energy" here isn't going to make programmers fix the game any faster. Certainly discuss bugs, provide feedback, discuss the game and what needs fixing. Just remember the preacher lecturing the choir on all the people who didn't attend church. Don't focus your energy at your fellow simmers. This happens all over with "live service games". People provide feedback (that's the point), however sometimes people feel that being louder and higher energy is the way to get noticed. Usually the opposite is true. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF

It seems that most were ejected from Avsim over the years for bad behaviour and piracy. you nailed it. 🙂 RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
November 1, 20205 yr Say something negative of Asobo and you will see how toxic it can become. Sean Green
November 1, 20205 yr There is no black and white. There are toxic people everywhere. There are good people everywhere and lots in between. Forums are in a sense a mirror of society. Just my 2 cents (Canadian). Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
November 1, 20205 yr Toxic in MSFS forums Folks are not fans of issues - here way more forgiving as we are not new to all of this - most there are and expect it to work out of the box - we are use to chasing a moving target after all of these years Rich Sennett
November 1, 20205 yr The internet is toxic wherever you go. People will say things online they would never say to your face. I think the Microsoft forums are worse than AVSIM. Adults have a hard time acting like adults online. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
November 1, 20205 yr Nah, Avsim isn't toxic, it just has a lot of people who are very passionate about flight simming. And wherever you get passionate people talking about the thing they're passionate about, serious disagreements occur about things which may seem trivial to the outsider (whether the new night lighting is "fatal" or not, for example 😉). That's not the same as toxicity. filbertflies.com | YouTube | Twitchi7 13700k, GeForce RTX 3080Ti, 32GB RAM
November 1, 20205 yr Here' my take as a long timer lurker here and sort of a semi-active member on MSFS forum. On AVSIM you almost know who are the toxic ones so as long as you avoid those, the forum is pretty clean and the people here feel generally nicer On MSFS forum, you never know who's going to start another very opinionated topic and triggers a trainwreck discussion or debate. There are quite some knowledgeable and friendly folks but their voices are usually not heard because they are not loud enough. But I have to say, there are some jokes/banters on AVISM I just could grasp or understand...

November 1, 20205 yr Go to the MSFS forums here on AVSIM and see the responses to any remotely negative comments toward MSFS or Asobo - no matter how well intentioned - and you can make up your own mind. David Porrett
